The Oxford MO boasts increased driveability thanks to the 1.5L side-valve straight-4 and four-speed manual gearbox.

The Oxford was originally produced by Morris from 1913 until 1935, the model name was born again in 1948 and lasted almost another 23 years until 1971 until its successor the Morris Marina took over. This example is an Oxford Series MO, which was in production 1948-54, it was introduced after the second world war with a much larger 40.5hp engine, and unibody construction techniques.

This 1952 example has been owned by Chris for the previous year and has just undergone restorative work by Gilbert Michaelson Limited specialists in the restoration of classic and historic vehicles. Now presenting in very good condition for it's age and use, it's ready to be enjoyed in season.

Meet the owner

I've always fancied an Oxford, it's been great fun to own, restore and drive.

Chris has owned the Morris Oxford MO since July 2020 and over that time has carried out a mechanical restoration to bring it back to life. He purchased the car from Turn Two Classics. The car was originally restored in 2009, but required a little more work to get it to the standard Chris would be happy with. Today he's spent just over £3,000 to get it to that standard.

The sills have been repaired, and attended to any sub-standard restoration repairs. The water pump, heater control valve, front suspension, underfloor cross members, A-pillar, and wiring loom have all been repaired in the last few months. Exterior

Distinctive styling shared with the Minor and the Six, with its Mosquito design elements and large chrome grille.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels look great on this Morris with the cream paint combined with chrome hub caps. There are some very minor paint chip marks but overall a lovely finish.

The rubber tells a similar story, overall in great condition with a good amount of tread left for road trips this summer.

Bodywork

Chris reports a lot of work was undertaken during the restoration in 2009 and further in 2021 to get it to the condition you see it in today. The sills have recently been restored as well as restorative work to the A-pillar.

The car looks great around each panel, all the panel gaps and shut lines appear good for a car of this age. When getting really close to the bodywork, we did notice some minor bubbling around the bottom of the doors and occasional minor marks as you would expect. Some bubbling is present on the boot lip, overall a lovely car from the '50s that has had all the major structural work addressed.

Paint

The paintwork appears in great condition, at some point during the cars life it's had a "Gascoyne Grey" respray, a classic colour that almost has a modern feel to it now. The paint is even in coverage and colour on every panel, please take a look for yourself on the interior and exterior photographs and videos.

Glass and Trim

Overall the glass in great condition and in line with the rest of the car with no signs of cracks, chips or discolouration to note, and all the trim/seals look good too with no signs of obvious wear.

Corrosion and pitting is beginning to show on the chrome bumpers, they would benefit from refurbishment. Please take a look at the videos to see the glass and trim in detail.

Interior

A '50s interior, a column shifter allowing for the bench seat in the front, full shelf under the dashboard, lots of convenience.

Seats and Carpets

Fitted with dark tan leather seats, the leather looks in great condition within the car and has really been given the attention it deserves. We didn't notice any major wear on either the front or rear seats.

The carpets tell a similar story and are in line with the rest of the car, in great condition throughout.

Dashboard

Reasonably comprehensive interior fittings by the standards of the time, with a full shelf under the dashboard, and useful pivoting ventilator panels. Instruments on the dashboard include oil pressure gauge, ammeter, and a clock.

There are some slight signs of patina on the top of the dashboard and around the steering column, this is a car from the 50's after all. Chris reports that all the instruments work as they should do, with the clock having had a Quartz movement fitted.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel appears in good and original condition which really shows the character and originality of the car. A little patina is beginning to show on both the steering wheel and gear selector.

Mechanics

A reliable and robust 1.5L side-valve straight-4 was taken from the Morris 10.

Engine and Gearbox

The Oxford MO used a 1.5L side-valve straight-4, with a single SU-carburettor, it has an output of 40.5bhp at 4000rpm and can propel the car to a max speed of 72mph.

The four-speed gearbox has a column gear change and steering is rack and pinion. Chris reports a smooth and steady drive in the MO, he mentions it always being a pleasure to drive. We captured a cold start video with the Morris, which can be seen in the mechanical video. The car started without fuss and with ease.

Suspension and Brakes

The car was fitted with torsion bar front suspension and hydraulically operated 8-inch drum brakes. Chris loves taking the MO out on any dry occasion, he reports a smooth drive, thanks to new rear dampers and refurbishment on the front suspension, and on-demand stopping performance since the restorative work.

The Drive

Built for comfort, not speed. That's not to say the car is uncomfortably slow, with a healthy cruising speed of 55-60mph the Oxford can hold its own on the "B roads" which is where you'll tend to find these.

Electrics and Other

The electrical loom has been given full attention earlier this year. Chris reports everything is working just as it should. Please take a look at the media for a detailed view of works completed on the car.

The car still has the original semaphores fitted, and these still work to this day!

History and Paperwork

With a great amount of history with this desirable MO, and mechanically restored, this usable classic is ready for a new home.

Chris purchased the Oxford 10 months ago with the vision to restore it to a much higher standard and use it occasionally during the summer. He had a great time owning the Oxford, and now ticking it off his bucket list, he's now onto his next project.

The car comes with a very healthy amount of history - MOT certificates and history dating far back to the original few owners. The car was first restored in 2009 and further improved by Gilbert Michaelson Limited in 2021. Chris will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.
