Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner

Combine sharp Italian styling with a brawny American V8, hand crafted in West Bromwich you get the Jensen Interceptor.

The Jensen Interceptor is a hand-built luxury GT, the Interceptor as most know it first produced in 1966. The body was designed by an Italian firm, Carrozzeria Touring in Italy, and the power coming from a Chrysler V8 engine, this 1973 example is fitted with the larger 7.2L High Deck Big Block V8 and had the distinction of being the most powerful car ever to have been made by Jensen. These cars were built-to-order and produced in more paint colours than any other model. They also had a wide range of trim options and innumerable specification variations - a hit among many celebrities of the time.

This example has been in the current ownership for 7 years, finished in white and the cabin re-trimmed to a very high standard. The car comes with a briefcase full of history, with lots of maintenance and service bills from current ownership.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Jonathon the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

What a sound, and what a way to travel. The experience is all about that classic V8 power and luxury cabin.

Jonathon purchased the brawny Interceptor in 2014 after coming across the car on an online ad. It had recently been re-trimmed and was finished in an attractive white over black colourway which caught his attention. After taking the car on a test drive, couldn't resist adding it to his collection.

Over his ownership he has kept the use to special occasions only, covering ~1,000 miles. More recently, Jonathon has found his use of the car decreasing, and after something else has caught his eye he is selling his Jensen Interceptor III. He will be more than happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

Exterior

With its sharp-suited Italian jawline, the Interceptor was one of the poster car of the 60s 70s.

Wheels and Tyres

The Jensen Interceptors 15" alloys look great, especially wrapped in Pirelli P400 super touring rubber, which gives the '70s coupe a sporty stance.

Each one of the 5-spoke alloy wheels appears in very good condition. Just a very minor amount of corrosion is beginning to show on the offside rear wheel. The Pirelli rubber looks in great condition with lots of tread left for the new owner to enjoy the car.

Bodywork

The shut lines and panel gaps all look good and flush with no signs of repairs in the past. When we got really close to the car, we did notice a minor area of bubbling on the driver's door, and some minor corrosion beginning to show around the arches.

The car comes with a factory-fitted Webasto sunroof, which Jonathon reports is functioning just as you would expect with no leaks.

Paint

The paint has been applied with good coverage throughout and of a high standard. The paint looks even in colour across each panel, please take a look at the photos for a good view of the paintwork.

The paint is signed off with the black pinstripes situated along the sides of the car. On the lower sections of the car/underneath, we noticed the paint is cracking with age, or where it has been more liberally applied.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks in great condition across the car, along with the trim. No major cracks or chipping were observed.

All the window rubbers and seals appear tight with no signs of excessive wear or degrading, and the factory-fitted Webasto roof presents in very good condition too.

Interior

Re-trimmed beautifully, the finest black leather with white piping ensures you get the proper Interceptor experience.

Seats and Carpets

In 2009 the car was taken to Classic Car Trim to have the cabin completely retrimmed to a very high standard in the finest Nappa leather. As you would expect the seats look excellent with the white pipping signing it off.

The wilton carpets, door cards, and headlining look in very good condition in line with the rest of the interior. The the large seats and vast leather used in the cabin, you'll often find the leather looking tired on examples for sale, it's great to see the quality of the re-trim on this example.

Dashboard

The dashboard retains its originality from the dials, gauges, buttons, and clocks. All of which appear in line with the age and mileage of the car, but they are set in the re-trimmed leather that gives the dashboard a new lease of life.

Jonathon reports everything is working - as you expect for a car of this caliber.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather steering wheel matches the rest of the trim in the car and is presented in excellent condition.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the interior.

Mechanics

The brawny 7.2L Chrysler V8 gave this 70s sports car over 280BHP on tap.

Engine and Gearbox

Jensens most powerful car, the mighty 7.2L Chrysler V8 provides impressive performance figures. The big block V8 is coupled to a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission which offers a smooth ride no matter what speed you're cruising at.

Please take a look at the history and paperwork to see the previous work carried out.

Suspension and Brakes

Jonathon reports the car drives very well, with the suspension offering a very steady and smooth drive, while the brakes system offering safe and prompt stopping power.

The Drive

With the 7.2L V8 providing the power and the Italian lines providing the style, the Interceptor is a pleasure to drive. Jonathon loves getting the chance to drive the car during the summer. He's covered around 1,000 miles in his ownership.

Electrics and Other

Jonathon assures us that everything on the car works as expected, including all the electrical systems, dials, gauges, and clocks. Jonathon reports the air con is ice cold in the summer as well.

History and Paperwork

The collaboration of the best 70s automakers, Italian styling, American power and British built. This UK RHD Interceptor III is ready to roll for the summer.

The car comes with stacks of paperwork, matching the mileage and service history over the previous 48 years.

From 2007 to 2008 the car had various work carried out CarWrights LTD to bring it mechanically up to a good standard, including a full engine tune. In 2009 the interior was completely retrimmed by Classic Car Trim who spent 210 hours bringing the interior up to a very high standard.

We've actioned checks on; Seller ID, V5, HPi.
