The MK2 is one of Jaguar's finest cars - this car has everything: UK home market, 3.8-litre, manual with overdrive, bags of history and it's been with the current owner for nearly three decades - perfect.

The Jaguar MKII,was built between '59 and '67 in Coventry, England. It is a fast and very capable saloon offering exactly what Jaguars slogan insisted: grace; space and pace.

The car is powered by the favourable 220bhp 3.8 robust Jaguar XK engine, similar to the unit found in the early E-type, having the same block, crank, connecting rods and pistons, but a different inlet manifold and carburation.

This is a very desirable MKII with the following key ingredients: original UK / RHD car, 3.8 manual with overdrive and coming fresh from 27 years of ownership.

Meet the owner

I've owned this car for 27 years - it's been a difficult decision to sell but now I feel the time is right to let go.

Graham has really put a lot of love, sweat and tears into this sought-after Jaguar MKII that he purchased back in 1992. Graham has a big history with classics and he previously worked for the MG owners club and was the 'go to guy' if you wanted your carburetors setting up correctly.

Graham knows a thing or two about mechanics and how important proper maintenance is on any car - swearing by regular oil changes.

Over his ownership, Graham has restored the car completely, this included a full strip down, bare metal respray in the car's original colour, rebuilt the engine and had the interior re-upholstered. He had the sills replaced but wanted to keep all the bodywork on the car original and has managed just that.

Exterior

The elegant Gunmetal paint really shows of the iconic MK2 shape and contours.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with chromed wire wheels and spinners - each one looks in excellent condition, just showing how well cared for this car really is.

The desirable Firestone deluxe champion radials are fitted with their white pipping - Graham reports never needing to change the tyres over his ownership, they still appear in great condition today due to limited mileage in the car but of course it's advisable to change them if the new owner intends to use the car regularly.

Bodywork

The MK2 was re-engineered above the waistline to dramatically improve visibility - the result was an 18% increase in cabin glass area.

The panel fit and condition are very good, with even and equal panel gaps throughout, apart from the passenger door at the base. Correctly fitting the door was one of Graham's very last jobs on this MK2 but due to health reasons he's unfortunately not had the time to carry it out.

Graham reports all doors open and close without problems, the underside appears solid, with the chassis rails and jacking points in good condition.

The engine bay also looks solid, along with the insides of the boot - please take a look at the images and videos to see just how good this is.

Paint

The paint finish is excellent throughout - the deep shine and lustre being even throughout the car. The car looks absolutely fantastic in this colour - arguably it's one of the best colours that really shows off the beautiful lines of the car.

Being picky, on the boot lip there is a very small area of bubbling which has been there since the respray around 20 years ago - Graham tells us that it's not corrosion, and rather a defect with the paint.

There is no significant damage to the paint, with just the odd sign of age and wear.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks in excellent condition across the car, along with the trim.

All the window rubbers and seals appear tight with no signs of wear or degrading.

Interior

The car has been elevated with an upholstered interior finished to a very high standard.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in a deep and rich red, perfectly contrasting the exterior, the seats appear in excellent condition throughout with very little signs of wear.

The door cards and walnut finish are in great condition too - Graham has used a product to dull down the glossy wood finish. He mentions the original gloss finish not suiting the interior, we actually rather like the matt finish.

The carpets and headlining tell a similar story, clean and in great condition throughout.

Dashboard

Featuring its highly original walnut dashboard, with the original dials and black leather surrounds. As you would expect, the dashboard shows some minimal signs of age, with a pleasing patina.

The dials, controls and switches are in good condition and all are said to be functional.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

In line with the rest of the interior, the steering wheel and gear stick are in great condition, showing very little signs of wear in line with the age and mileage of the car.

Mechanics

Featuring the 3.8-litre Jaguar XK, which offers the perfect amount of power for the MKII chassis.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by the 3.8L Jaguar XK, the MkII is capable of pushing out 220bhp, outstanding from a car for the '60s. It'll reach 60mph in just 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 125mph - this was a seriously quick car in its day and still packs a punch today. Importantly the original dogleg gearbox is fitted too.

The cold start represented no issues for the engine, with oil pressure and temperature gauges reading correctly.

As mentioned, Graham has rebuilt the engine and he also stripped down and rebuilt the carburetors.

Suspension and Brakes

The braking system has received the attention it requires over the years and is said to perform well with no issues. The car's suspension system on appearance looks in good condition too, with no issues unusual knocks, or sounds.

Importantly power steering is fitted making this car much easier to drive in modern driving conditions.

The Drive

An early getaway car, the MKII has a reputation for being fast and is also favorable among the police - the car offers a very smooth ride, with plenty of cabin space.

Graham mentions to us it's a very enjoyable car to drive and is the very essence of a British sporting saloon.

Electrics and Other

Graham reports all the electrics on this car are working as they should to his knowledge.

Graham has fitted a new heater motor due to the old one not being powerful enough - it just needs inside leavers adjusting.

You'll notice a Kenlowe has been fitted, however, Graham has not connected it as the car doesn't get hot with the current fans. The new owner could, if they wanted to, connect the fan and use as a back up.

History and Paperwork

Meticulous ownership over the previous 27 years with all the required work to prove - this is a very rare and desirable MKII for any collector.

Graham and the previous owners have clearly taken good care of the car, it comes with a large amount of history, including the original log book, along with hundreds of photos of the work carried out since Graham's ownership.

He loved to bring the car to shows, and using it as a wedding car on the weekends, he mentions how great driving it is.

The current V5 logbook shows just one previous owner, however, Graham has the old style log books and counted five owners - so there is a data error on the current V5 which is not unusual.

Unfortunately, due to health reasons means Graham is having to sell the car and he's also downsizing his collection of interesting and unique motorcars.

Im happy to say none so all arriginal parts will fit all i have done is take off off the car and cleaned and polished to bring them back to good condition as best i could
