Introduction
Glyn Parry
Becoming more and more desirable and maturing nicely, the 996 facelift variant is one that won’t be around for long at these prices.
Launched in 1997, the Porsche 996 Carrera was designed as a sports grand tourer, but it was also comfortable and reliable enough to be used as a daily driver. Upon the launch, the 996 received quite a lot of criticism from the die-hard Porsche fans around the world. This was mainly due to the new design of the head lights and the smooth sides without any larger wheel arches, that people were used to with a 911. Not to mention the move to water-cooled engine.
Just four years later the facelift model featured newly designed headlights which were more similar to the turbo version car as opposed to the Boxster - this kept the die-hard Porsche owners happy and more importantly a larger 3.6 litre engine, powering the new model from 0-62mph in just 5 seconds.
This particular example has been cared for by Roy for the past 12 years, and after covering nearly 60,000 miles in the Porsche, it’s safe to say that Roy has enjoyed the car immensely. Importantly you'll see Roy has looked after the car in terms of servicing too - more recently using the very knowledgeable and reputable Porsche Tech in Coventry.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Roy the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Thank you Roy for the reply. If I was the successful bidder would you consider delivering the car to the address below which looks quite close to you as I will be there from Thursday to Saturday this week. I will be at a horse event in my lorry so could drive the car home and my wife could bring the lorry. Thank you.
The Postcode for the houses at the front entrance gates is ******.
Thank you
Hi Richard, I have friends in Leamington who will no doubt put the kettle on and as its twenty minutes away, I’ll be happy to drop her off, having checked this is in order with the Trade Classics team. Obviously, all of their terms and conditions need to be met.
Happy bidding! Regards, Roy.
Thank you Roy
Good afternoon Roy,
Do the heated seats work? Also the heater display does not work from your description but i presume the actual system is still operative as in temperature adjustment and vent allocation?
Thank you,
Richard
Hi Richard. The seats work perfectly and the heater does too, controlling the heat and vents as selected. It is only the LCD display that is partly obscure but you can still make out the vent selection. I hope this helps and let me know if you need anything else you need. Regards, Roy.
Hello RSP.
As Roy says, all the functions work as they should, it is just the LCD display that has failed. When testing the functions they were working, and I found that if I looked at it from some angles you can still make out what is selected.
It is a common issue with 996, and a fairly cheap repair that can be completed at home with a few tools and a little knowledge (many youtube tutorials out there).
Hi Roy, Are you aware of any other work carried out to the car before your ownership? excluding the routine servicing.
Thanks.
Hi, no I’m not but I’ve had the car for more than 10 years and bought it from a reputable garage where a friend was the Service Manager.
She’s been a reliable car for years and is now.
I’m down sizing significantly into an apartment with one garage so there is no room for her!
Regards, Roy

Hi,
No, sorry. I’ve had no problems since I took ownership more than ten years ago from a reliable dealership.
Regards, Roy.
There has been a problem with this site in that the answer I posted didn’t appear so I re-posted several times and they’ve all appeared! Bottom line is I wasn’t aware of any issues before I took ownership. I bought her from a reputable dealership where a friend was the Service manager and he had everything checked before I bought her and would have advised me if there were any issues . I’ve had this vehicle for over ten years and she has been utterly reliable. I hope this helps!
Good Afternoon
Can you please confirm the IMS bearing has been replaced in the cars history
Regards
Hi there.
I have used a highly regarded Porsche specialist for the past ten years and I am happy to confirm the following:
At every service, he has dismantled and examined the oil filter and there have been NO SIGNS of chromium flakes and never has been. The IMS bearing has not been replaced and in his expert opinion, there is absolutely no need to replace it.
I spoke to him five minutes ago in order to answer your query accurately. I would also just re-state, that before going to auction, I had him service and check the car, which I believe is the right thing to do.
If you have any further queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll do my best to answer them as quickly as possible.
Regards,
Roy.
Good Afternoon Rob
Can you please confirm the IMS bearing has been replaced in the cars history

Hi Roy, can you tell me when the car was last serviced and what major work has been done on the car recently. Thanks
MANY apologies Graham-I’m selling my house and we’ve been manic with viewings the past two days.
To answer your questions: The car was last serviced a couple of weeks ago by the Porsche specialist I’ve used for years.
Because I intended to take the car to auction, I also asked my garage to check on any jobs that needed doing. I had the Power Steering pipe at the rack replaced, plus a new drivers mirror which was cracked and finally, the headlights polished.
Should you have any further questions, please ask and I’ll reply very quickly. Again, apologies for the delay.
Kind regards and happy bidding! Roy.
