Introduction
Glyn Parry
The 993 was launched by Porsche as a replacement for the 964 - they referred to it as “a significant advance, not just from a technical perspective but a visual one too”.
Launched in 1994, the 993 was a completely new design over its predecessor, the 964, with just 20% of the parts carried over from the previous generation. A new engine and completely new suspension set up, with a light alloy subframe and multilink system, eliminated the lift-off oversteer problems.
Throughout the short production run of the 993 from 1994 to 1998, it was available in various options such as the Targa, Turbo, Carrera Coupe, Carrera cabriolet, GT2, Carrera RS and Speedster, whilst also offering the car in rear or all-wheel drive. It offered something for everyone and produced a more civilized car with an improved driving experience.
The particular 1994 convertible model we have here belongs to James, which he's owned and enjoyed for over a decade, and has recently serviced and MOT'd the car - all ready for the new owner of this German classic.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting James the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Hi Trevor,
This is no problem. We are located at Pinxton and I am here usually until 8.00pm but just ring ——–. Thanks, Jim.
Hi James – please call the office to organise a viewing. We do need to do some basic checks before we give you our clients address for security reasons.
Update 23/08 – last week we mentioned that James said there was some very light burning oil smell / smoke coming from the top of the heat exchanges. We thought it may be due to a drip coming from the cam covers, however, no oil was shown on his garage floor. As we all know, this is a common issues and easy to rectify. However, James took the car on a 150 mile trip over the weekend and no smell / smoke was observed.
When James picked up the car from Zentrum back in 2019 he only did about 8 miles back to his garage and the car sat for a long time / not used. So it’s very likely that there was some residual oil on top of the heat exchangers that hadn’t been wiped off by Zentrum.
If this is not done then the collected oil on top as a result of changing the cam covers can take a while to burn off. It’s always best to put a rag on top of the heat exhangers when doing this job to avoid this.
I know as I’ve done this many time on my own 3.2 when adjusting the valves!
