Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

The perfect combination of Jaguar's MK2 styling and dynamics with Daimler's wonderful new V8 engine - introducing this fantastic family owned since new example.

The Daimler 250 V8 was produced for seven years between '62 and '69. It was the first-ever Daimler car to be based on the Jaguar platform, with a unit-body and the last to use a Daimler engine after the company was bought by Jaguar in 1960.

The 250 emerged from Coventry as one of the finest cars of its era, the muscular engine complimented the curvaceous MK2 body perfectly.

This particular 250 V8 has been in the family since new, purchased by the current owner's dad at the London Motorshow, it was then passed down to Arthur in 2016. He's had the car resprayed in its original light maroon colour while maintaining the 250 V8's original character.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting the owner Arthur, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This car has been in my family since new, it's a piece of the furniture and will be sad to see it go - I just want to find a good new home.

The seller's dad bought this car brand new back in 1968, and it's been in the family since.

Arthur has had the car professional resprayed at a Butlins and Sons classic cars, who rubbed down the car and painted the 250 in an opalescent Maroon. Arthur's original plan was to pass it down to his children, unfortunately, they have no interest in it, and therefore he would rather see the car enjoyed by a like-minded Daimler enthusiast.

Please feel free to ask Arthur any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Handsome and curvaceous body lines also found on the MK2 finished in a gorgeous light opalescent maroon paint.

Wheels and Tyres

The chrome hub caps and body matching maroon wheels really make the car look the part. Arthur recently replaced the chrome hub caps.

The wheels appear to be finished to a very high standard, with no major wear noticed. The tyres are in similar condition with no obvious signs of cracking, the front wheels are fitted in Excelsior tubeless and the rear is fitted with BF Goodrich - both appear in great condition with lots of tread.

Please take a look at the photos for a detailed view.

Bodywork

Five years ago the body has been subject to a complete respray. The panel gaps and fit look in excellent shape. The car looks free from any signs of damage or serious corrosion. Being picky, the only spots we could notice are the smallest stone chip under the nearside light and a very slight mark on the boot.

The underside also looks as if it's been given the attention it deserves and appears solid.

We have captured high-resolution photos and videos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the exterior.

Paint

In 2017 Butlins & Sons Classic Cars carried out a complete respray on this 250 V8 costing upwards of £7,700. It's been applied by professionals and has a deep lustre throughout, as you would expect the finish appears excellent.

The colour applied is an opalescent Maroon with a 2K clear lacquer finish.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the paintwork.

Glass and Trim

The car features its original brightwork that appears in very good condition all around. You can tell it's always been garaged from the very little signs of pitting present.

The seals around all the glass and brightwork appear in excellent condition and we expect they would have been replaced during the respray. The front bumper has the smallest signs of pitting in places.

Please see the image gallery for more detailed shots.

Interior

A split-bench, heating ducts in the rear, and the iconic Daimler badge on the steering wheel sets the 250 V8 apart from the MK2 - '60s luxury at its finest.

Seats and Carpets

The interior appears original from 1968 and its condition is in line with the age and mileage. Arthur has kept the interior in a very good condition and therefore only pleasing signs of patina are present. On the seats, we noticed some large crease lines, but no major damage throughout. The carpets look good and would benefit from a deep shampoo and clean.

The headlining appears in great condition, overall a lovely interior with signs of patina reflecting the character of the car.

Dashboard

The dashboard appears in great condition across the whole length of the car. An elegant walnut wood panel looks greats with littles signs of patina. The original clocks also look the part being clean and clear throughout.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original steering wheel is fitted and the automatic gear selector is in great condition with no signs of damage or significant wear. The gold 'D' badge in front of you lets you know you're driving something quite special.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed shots.

Mechanics

The majestic 2548cc Ted Turner V8 offers more power and a musical masterpiece as you cruise along the country roads.

Engine and Gearbox

The lighter 2.5 V8 engine offers considerably better handling over the Jaguar and is even easier to pilot. The 140bhp produced create enough power for modern roads and to race through traffic.

The engine bay presents itself in a very clean and honest state with no obvious signs of corrosion throughout. Arthur has also had a stainless steel exhaust fitted.

Please watch the mechanical video to see and hear the engine running smoothly. The car started the first time from cold.

Suspension and Brakes

We are told that maintenance on the brakes and suspension have been carried when needed, thus ensuring everything works as expected.

The Drive

Ideal for getting to your destination in style, speed, and comfort. The 250 V8 offers a joyful driving and passenger experience, with dashing good looks from the '60s.

Arthur mentions the car is such a pleasure to drive and enjoys taking it out to shows on sunny weekends.

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with an assortment of switches and dials on the dashboard. Arthur reports all the electrical items are functional.

History and Paperwork

UK, RHD, family owned since new, and recently resprayed - this has to be one of the most attractive 250 V8s on the market today.

This particular car has seen the benefits of a full respray in 2017, otherwise, the car is highly original, and Arthur and his father have tried their best at maintaining it over the years.

Arthur mentioned the car was first ordered at the Daimler stand at the 1968 London Motor Show by his father. He ran his own automotive business selling, repairing, leasing, and chauffeuring vehicles.

The car was leased out, twice to two businessmen, and stored some time up until 1984, where his father put it back on the road and used the car regularly up until 2016.

Arthur will be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Hi Arthur, another quick question for you. Does the car have power steering and can it run on unleaded petrol (E5) or does it need the lead additive?

Hi Arthur, she is absolutely beautiful and a credit to your family.
So on Tom’s point, has it had extensive repair work carried out and then also a respray for £7,000? Do you have any photographic evidence of the state of her before by any chance?
Many thanks
Gary

HI, love the car. I was reading through some of the documentation. It was mentioned in the text that the car had a £7,000 respray but I see bills for up to £26,000 with lots of metal work replaced. It sounds like the car was in a bad state, can you elaborate please?
Do you know if it is possible to fit rear seat belts as would want this when taking passengers in the back.
Anything else you want to add to the information available would be appreciated.

Best Regards
Tom
