Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

One of Jaguar's finest - the MKII 3.8 offers drivers and passengers grace, space, and pace in one classy package - with prices on the rise then arguably now is the time to put one on your list.

The Jaguar MKII was built between '59 and '67 in Coventry, England. It is a fast and very capable saloon offering exactly what Jaguars slogan insisted: grace; space and pace.

The car is powered by the favourable 220bhp 3.8L bulletproof Jaguar XK engine, similar to the unit found in the early E-type, having the same block, crank, connecting rods and pistons, but a different inlet manifold and carburation.

If you're after an investor quality manual 3.8 then we think this is the one for you. This Mk2 has all the right ingredients: original UK RHD car, 3.8L engine, manual with overdrive and a host of provenance including the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Beautifully finished and restored in its factory period colour of Opalescent Golden Sand, and an engine out mechanical restoration, it's ready for showing this summer.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Dean the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This is my fifth classic Jag from the '60s and one of my favourites - you really can't beat a luxurious MKII in 3.8 / manual form.

Dean has really gone over and above to bring his Jaguar MKII to its former glory, during his three years of ownership.

When Dean purchased the car it was already in great shape, but it had been in storage for some time. As a result, he had a thorough mechanical overhaul actioned on the car which included all the suspension and an engine rebuild. He will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Sweeping body curves and elegant Opalescent Golden Sand paintwork means head-turning good looks wherever you go.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with chrome wire wheels, they really do look the part on this Mk2. They are wrapped in Pirelli P400 tyres all round - Dean says they handle great too.

Both the wheels and tyres appear in great condition with no wear to point out and plenty of tread on the tyres.

Bodywork

We didn't notice any imperfections of note when we looked at bodywork, above or below - a very nice example indeed.

Dean has really taken the time to meticulously attend to this MK2, all the panels appear straight, along with the shut lines too. He demonstrates the doors opening and closing with ease in the interior videos, with a pleasing mechanical 'clunk' sounds. The car benefitted from having been dry stored for some time before he acquired it, and so corrosion to the bodywork was not a major issue that needed tackling.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the bodywork condition for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in the period colour of "Opalescent Golden Sand", it's the factory colour for this car and really suits it, Dean had the car resprayed when he recommissioned it.

Across the car, the paint is even in finish and colour, beautiful. Again, please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

Inline with the rest of the car - great condition with the rubber trim looking very good with no areas of concern.

Please view the photos and videos for a more detailed view.

Interior

All original leather seats await you and step you back in time to the sixties; an elegant and simpler time.

Seats and Carpets

This red leather interior was the correct choice, and pairs so well with the "Opalescent Golden Sand" paintwork and brightwork. We like the chrome touches in the form of the hand brake, door handles, and seat adjustments which compliment the finish of this beautiful car.

In line with the car's mileage, this car has bags of patina in the interior. Dean didn't want to ruin the originality of the vehicle, and so didn't have the interior restored.

No tears or rips on the seats or carpets, just genuine leather creases that show and preserve the history of this car.

Dashboard

The very smart wood veneer looks in great condition along with the black dials with numbers - all very legible with no fogging or condensation found.

Dean reports all the switches and dials work as they should on this example, except for the clock, as is the usual case due to their design.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

In line with the rest of the interior, the steering wheel and gear stick are in great condition, showing very little signs of wear and look in line with the age and mileage of the car.

Mechanics

The daddy, the 3.8-litre XK block offers all the power you'd want in a Mk2, it's the one to have.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by the 3.8L Jaguar XK, the MkII is capable of pushing out 220bhp, outstanding from a car for the '60s. It'll reach 60mph in just 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 125mph - this was a very quick car in its day and still packs a mighty kick today.

The cold start represented no issues for the engine, with oil pressure and temperature gauges looking good. Please watch the mechanical video to hear the car starting. Dean had an engine rebuild actioned when he bought the car and recommissioned it for use again, including fitment of a new clutch, and recently it has just had an oil change in line with the mechanics recommendation post rebuild.

Suspension and Brakes

Both the braking system and suspension have received an overhaul when the car was recommissioned in Deans ownership. You'll see from the pictures all new bushing on the underside and pipework too. Both systems perform well with no issues.

The Drive

An early getaway car, the MKII had a reputation for being a getaway car, and was also favourable among the Police. The car offers a very smooth ride, with plenty of cabin space. Dean tells us "this MKII is an absolute pleasure to take out and drive along the coast on sunny days - the car handles great and the suspension is very smooth".

Electrics and Other

Dean reports all the electrics on this car are working as they should to his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

A UK home market matching numbers car, low ownership, mechanically overhauled and resprayed in the factory colour of Opalescent Golden Sand with red leather interior - this is a very desirable MK2 coming to market.

Dean and the previous owners have clearly taken good care of the car. When Dean purchased the car 3 years ago, it had been in storage for some time, and so he actioned a thorough overhaul of the running gear on the vehicle, and an exterior restoration too. You'll find lots of work completed on the car over the past few years of ownership, and it has just had an oil change in line with the schedule post engine rebuild.

Please see Jaguar's CoA in the media pack and Dean has confirmed the car is matching numbers, i.e. the number on the engine and body match the CoA.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Good afternoon , very interested in your lovely Jaguar ,
I’m trying not to be nit picky but in the description it states that it had been resprayed which is to be expected but the picture showing the drivers side looking a little alarming but I’m sure it’s a lighting issue .
Can you confirm that the rear drivers door and passenger doors are rot free as the photos give the illusion of extensive bubbling .
Many thanks Andy
