FOR SALE

2004 Maserati 4200 Cambiocorsa

Now available for sale

Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner

The Maserati offers a gorgeous shape with strong performance - the 4200 is versatile enough for everyday use yet has power when you need it.

The Maserati Coupé is a grand tourer produced between 2001 and 2007, the model replaced the preceding 3200 GT. The 4200 features the F136 R V8 which belongs to the Ferrari/Maserati family and displaces 4,244cc outputting ~385BHP at 4,500RPM. Cambiocorsa (Italian, meaning "race change") is an automated manual transmission. The car uses a Formula One-type gearbox, built by Graziano Trasmissioni, with hydraulic operation and electronic management operated by F1-style paddles behind the steering wheel. The gearbox has four different operating modes: Normal, Sport, Auto, Low Grip. The car has a 48/52% weight distribution between the front and rear axles for a near perfect balance.

This example has been owned and enjoyed by Martin for the previous 18 months, you'll be happy to see this example comes packed with specialist service history from Maserati and Ferrari specialists, and a new Ferrari clutch fitted around 1,000 miles ago - this 4200 it ready for its next leg around the continent.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Martin the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It's hard not to be seduced by the Coupe's sweeping lines and mighty 4.2L under the hood.

Martin has owned this 4200 Cambiocorsa for the previous 18 months, and over that time has enjoyed the pleasure that comes with Maserati ownership, brute power in an elegant and refined package.

He was swayed by the colour combination that is Blue Nettuno Metallic over tan leather, and the mighty 4.2L V8. Martin will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Sleek and attractive Italian styling with personality - the design on this model is maturing with age.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 15-spoke Maserati alloys, the wheels look in great condition all around on this example. The wheels are wrapped in Dunlop Sportmaxx RT2's dated 2017 and GT Radials Sport active dated 2020.

You can see wheels and tyres in more detail in the exterior media pack below.

Bodywork

The bodywork appears very good on this exotic sports car with no uneven gaps observed. We didn't see any evidence of corrosion on the body, with the underside looking solid too. Martin reports the doors, boot, and engine bay open and close with ease.

Take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the bodywork on this 4200 for yourself.

Paint

Finished in a very attractive, head-turning yet timeless Blue Nettuno Metallic the paint has a great amount of lustre with no obvious swirls or matting. The metallic paint catches the light very well, as seen in the photos.

When looking closely, we did notice the odd stone chip to the front bumper, in line with the age and mileage of the car. Again, please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to appreciate the colour and condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in great condition, with no significant issues to note.

The rubber trim surrounding the glass looks in good condition with some slight areas of age around the front windscreen. The headlights are showing some very slight signs of fogging as can be seen in the exterior media pack.

Interior

A compelling combination of performance and a luxurious leather interior.

Seats and Carpets

Tan leather seats are fitted within the 4200, with striped inserts and Neptunes trident embossed onto the headrest, this interior is dripping with luxury. The leather continues to wrap the centre console and dashboard, inside this timeless coupe.

The seat bolsters show some signs of wear in the form of creases, in line with the age and mileage of the car. The outer bolster on the drivers side shows the biggest sign and would benefit from attention. Please have a look at the photo and video review of the interior to see and assess all areas in greater detail.

Dashboard

The dashboard offers a very clean and luxurious layout with all the information you'd ever need - six dials and an electronic display to show you which gear your F1 gearbox is in.

All of the controls, switches, and dials are presented in great condition and are said to be fully operational.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Maserati steering wheel is in good condition and appears to be in line with the age and mileage of the car, fitted with sport gear paddles similar to what you would find on an F1 car.

Mechanics

Powered by the Ferrari/Maserati F136 engine coupled to quick F1-style transmission - you'll want ensure you've strapped yourself in.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine displaces 4,244cc and is rated at 385BHP at 7,000RPM. Significant changes from the previous engine is the larger displacement resulting from an increased cylinder bore diameter and a move to a naturally aspirated intake system which replaced the twin-turbocharged induction approach which Maserati had used for the previous 20 years.

On our consignment, the engine fired up instantly with no hesitation, with no unwanted noises heard from the engine or exhaust. The car came up to temperature with no issues. Take a look at the mechanical video for a closer look at the engine bay and a view underneath the car.

Suspension and Brakes

The Coupe has a light alloy double wishbone suspension, fitted with a toe-in regular bar which enhances the precision of the drive-train and provides even more balanced cornering. This car is fitted with the Skyhook suspension system, the damping adjusted via the sports mode button on the centre console.

The car's suspension looks good and as reported by Martin, there are no issues with the ride and no creaks when getting in and out or using the car.

The Drive

A luxurious and comfortable ride is offered in the 4200 coupe. With 385BHP at the press of a pedal, you won't want to travel in anything else, ideal for long weekend trips around the continent. You can experience a little run in this example that we recorded as part of the 'on the road video'.

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with a whole range of luxurious electrical features from the factory including its original Maserati entertainment system.

Martin tells us that to his knowledge all electrical items work as expected.

History and Paperwork

Specialist service history, recent Ferrari clutch, and desirable Cambiocorsa gearbox - this Maserati is ready to go.

The car comes with a host of specialist receipts, MOTs, and service history from the past 16 years. Take a look at the service and MOT history reports below.

The car had a new Ferrari clutch fitted 1,000 miles ago, and the bottom wishbone bushes were replaced.

Martin is more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle. The HPi has come up as clear without an insurance write-off marker, although there is a note to say it was previously recorded as a Category D on the condition alert register in 2015 and this was removed after inspection in 2016 as the media pack details.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Is the rest of the Autolign Inspections report available to view?

Also, would you permit a professional inspection if I can arrange one in time?

Is it possible to come and view the car? I’m not far away, over on the Island. What sort of condition are the sub frames in, is there much surface rust?
