Introduction
Colin Bashford
Definitely fun for the whole family - the VW Westfalia Continental is the perfect toy for a weekend adventure.
Following the huge success of the T1 Split Screen, 1967 brought us the production of the second generation VW T2. Commonly known as the bay-window, the T2 is slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor, and was given the 47 bhp, 1.6-litre engine. 1971 saw some considerable changes to the T2. The engine was given dual intake ports on each cylinder head, pushing the power to 50bhp. Another change was the addition of disc brakes to the front, and the wheels had holes in them to aid cooling.
Westfalia conversions are the crème de la crème for the VWs, just like the one we have here. A nice low mileage example, with a rebuilt engine and gearbox, new body panels and finished off inside with lots of modern creature comforts.

There are very few pictures of the underside, arches and areas such as cross members. I notice that the suspension components look fairly rusty too. Do you have any detailed photographs of the underside of the van; if so can I please see them? Can you also provide the M-plate details please?
Hello David, You can see all the photos on the web site. There is a good bit of video that shows the underside of the vehicle and should show you all you need to see. The vehicle is checked underneath every year. Last year there were new bushes fitted as can be seen in the video. I think what you might see as rust is actually the Ziebart treatment that was put on as new and now looks very rust coloured.
I can’t post a picture here of the M plate but the information on it is:
32 017 722
022751 A41 P33 518
38 2 7435 EL 2349 11
Underneath it is the colour sticker showing:
leuchtorange L 20 B
pastellweiB L 90 D
I hope that helps
