Introduction

Kristina Leikaite
Professional Consigner

The road-legal go-kart that needs no introduction, the iconic Mini Cooper.

The classic Cooper needs no introduction as you'll know it delivers a go-kart feel all the time, although the Mini was never supposed to be a sporty city car, of course, it was originally designed for the people. The car was a huge success, 5.4 million Mini's were bought over its 41 years of production life, and still remains the best-selling British car of all time.

With the perfect small body shell and clever rubber cone suspension, motoring enthusiasts began to take note - it was a proven giant killer on the road and track, famously vanquishing the V8-engined Ford Falcons in the Monte Carlo Rally.

This Mini, has been owned by Joe for the past 9 years, he's loved driving it occasionally, and mentioned it was always SORN and dry stored over the winters, only properly enjoyed throughout the summer.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kristina after meeting Joe the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

What an iconic car, I've always dreamed of owning a Cooper, and this late version has been brilliant.

Joe took ownership of the car in 2012 when he was on the search for a Mini Cooper to enjoy over the weekends. Since then he's only completed ~3,000 miles on the car, the car being put on SORN during the winter months and dry stored it to keep it in the condition you see today.

Joe has decided to part with the car, and purchase something a little more practical for everyday use. Over his ownership, he had very little work carried out, just some maintenance when needed, and its regular service carried out every 2 years. He is more than happy to answer any of your questions about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Small, quirky, and full of character, this Mini Cooper is the car for any occasion.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 13" 8-spoke Mini cooper alloys, the wheels look in really good condition. When getting really close to the alloys, we did notice some minor curbing to the wheels around the outer rim.

The wheels are wrapped in Continental SportContact tyres all-round, dated 2008 and still appear to have a good amount of tread. Take a look at the wheels are tyres for yourself in the media pack below.

Bodywork

The bodywork looks good on this Rover Cooper, all the panels appear straight with flush shut lines and even looking panel gaps.

When photographing the car we noticed some areas of corrosion to the wings, and underneath the front windscreen. We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

We really like the classic choice of British racing green on this Mini. The finish of the paint really stands out on the roads today. The paint appears even in coverage across each panel.

Again, please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks great on this example, with no obvious signs of cracks, chips, or discoloration. The headlights and indicators look in great clean and clear condition.

The trim around the car appears in good condition including the window rubbers. Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed tour of this Mini.

Interior

With a full leather interior, this late Mini offers class and comfort unheard of before in a city car.

Seats and Carpets

A lighter green leather covers the interior of this mini. It appears in great condition and in line with the age and mileage of the car with just some light age related creasing to the drivers bolsters.

Full leather door cards and black carpets also look in great condition with metal styled window winders and door handles.

Dashboard

A great-looking interior and a dashboard to match, it is in line with the age and mileage of the car, free from cracks or major wear.

Joe reports all the dials, gauges, and buttons are working as expected. Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A simple, yet sport-orientated black leather steering wheel is fitted, and a metal gear-stick.

Both the gear stick and steering wheel appear in great condition in line with the rest of the interior.

Mechanics

You don't need hundreds of horsepower to have fun - this Mini proves that with its feisty 4-pot.

Engine and Gearbox

Fitted with a feisty 1.3L 4-cylinder engine which is not only practical and reliable, it packs a punch on all road types and is exactly why it is such a big hit among the masses. Being the final version it was fitted with twin injection with a front-mounted radiator.

Joe reports that the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with no known issues, watch the video to see it in action. Joe also reports that the gearbox is slick with all gears seeming to engage smoothly and decisively.

Suspension and Brakes

One of the most defining aspects of the Mini is its rubber-cone suspension system, which requires very little maintenance.

Joe has always given the brakes and suspension the attention it needs. Please take a look at the list of receipts in the paperwork section.

Please view the mechanical videos and photographs to see close up images from under the car.

The Drive

An extremely fun and enjoyable drive is offered in the car. Joe loves getting the car out on weekends.

Electrics and Other

All of the electric items are said to be fully functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

History and Paperwork

A late and desirable Mark VII example finished in an attractive green with twin injection and 38 years of refinement this model of Mini is a great usable classic.

Joe has looked after this car, during his 12 years of ownership. He reports dry storing the car during the winter and tries to keep the car within its bi-yearly service schedule. The car comes with a great amount of service history and MOT reports dating back to 2009.

Joe will be more than happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

Any more details about the rust or rot? What is the rear subframe, including mounting points and general underside like?
Sills ok on the inside or do they need replacing too?
