Introduction
Glyn Parry
Most school boys had the iconic 911 on their bedroom wall, and rightly so, it really is a beautiful creation.
The Porsche 911 first arrived in 1964 to replace the 356. The rear-mounted, air-cooled engine layout remained the same, however, the 911 switched to unitary construction for the body-shell and dropped the VW-based suspension in favour of the McPherson strut and trailing arm arrangement. Most importantly though, the engine was upgraded to an air-cooled flat six, a legendary change. Two years after the release of the introduction of the original coupe, Porsche announced their convertible variation, named the 'Targa', after their multiple wins in the Sicilian classic. The Targa featured a large roll-over bar to meet safety legislation, and a removable roof which could fit in the front storage space.
With the vendor since 1995, Justin has had a wonderful time owning this classic 911 Carrera 3.0 Targa. However, in storage for 10 years, and now planning to emigrate means that some other lucky person is going to become the proud owner of this classic air-cooled 911.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Justin the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Many people are asking about the CDI fault, so I thought it best to describe the symptoms here:
The CDI unit (3 pin) is receiving the correct supply and it powering up with the high-pitch whining noise. There is however no high voltage pulses at the coil resulting in no spark. This is a common 911 issue, especially when vehicles have not been used for a while.
The last vehicle I had the same symptoms on (930 turbo- 6 pin CDI) had the main capacitor fail. This was a £30 part, and 2hrs labour to strip the CDI, replace the capacitor and rebuild.
Unfortunately without a CDI test-bed I can’t confirm 100% that only the capacitor is at fault, but the symptoms would indicate it.
I hope this is of help.
Motiontech. Many thanks for that information. ?
Cdi unit looks to be £925 new
RESERVE MET – On Sale and will be sold to the highest bidder tonight. Good luck!
Have you had any quotes to repair the electrical fault?
Hi. Thanks for your interest. I have not had any quotes for the repair. It will probably need a new CDI unit.

You comment upon the B pillars from inside the rear wings. It’s always a place that collects moisture and rots. I can’t tell in the video if there is some Corrosion or not.
When it was started in the video, 2nd time, there was an amount of white smoke, not unusual for a 911. Did it clear quickly?
Is there any signs of oil leaking underneath ?
Hi Paul.
I am available tomorrow afternoon or Sunday if that suits you. The Bpillars do show slight signs of bubbling under paint work, no signs of oil leaks and the exaust smoke disapears like most.

Justin

Hi Justin, in the service book the first page mileage is out of sync with the second page mileage. I.e. 48k service, 23/09/80 reads 47,656 miles but the 120k mile service, 06/04/92 reads 21,553 miles etc. Is there any reason for this?
Hi. The Speedometer was changed between 1982 and 1986 and they started the service on the 96000 maintenance on the 06.11.86 at 970 miles. Regards Justin
