The new kid on the block - A potent hot hatch offering four-wheel drive and a turbocharged ~296BHP powertrain.

The third-generation S3 first made an appearance in 2013, with a ~296BHP turbo 2.0L inline-four, red-lining at 6,800rpm. The engine featured new pistons with stronger bolts, rings, and reinforced connecting rods. All this new technology and engineering made the engine 5kg lighter than the previous generation, allowing you to swiftly hit 62MPH in 4.8 seconds.

The S models have always offered discreet looks, while packing a punch with a turbocharger and tremendous Quattro 4WD grip, allowing you to fly under the radar. For those looking for a practical car that's versatile in its performance, the S3 is probably fit for you.

The S3 had been on the vendors dream car list for quite some years, and in 2016 they had the opportunity to purchase one from new. Over the past 5 years they've loved using the S3 as a regular car, but with a lack of use more recently the car is coming up for sale.

Meet the owner

The way this car handles with the Quattro system is incredible, the composure it has in all weathers help to get the power down.

Scott has had a strong passion for cars from a very young age, and growing up had always fancied an Audi S3. When the opportunity arose Scott decided to purchase this car from new in 2016.

He mentions from the moment you unlock the car, you're surrounded by quality in every way. The cabin is laid out perfectly, letting you access everything quickly, and from the turn of the key, the engine pounces into life - calm and composed, ready to go as soon as you tap the accelerator.

Due to working from home, Scott isn't getting much use of the car and mentions it is time to go. Since his ownership, he's wrapped the roof in black vinyl, had the windows tinted, and fitted carbon wing mirrors. He'll be happy to answer your questions about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Subtle cues tell you this is not a hot hatch to mess with - quad exhaust tips, sporty alloys, and sharp bodywork.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with Audi 5 twin-spoke alloys, the wheels give the car a very sporty stance and show off the S-badged sport calipers. The wheels appear in great condition with just some very minor curb marks in the odd place.

The wheels are wrapped in Kaiser Kenda Radial tyres at the front and Continental ContiSportContact at the rear. All the tyres appear to have a good amount of tread on them, ready for the new custodian to drive away on.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this S3 looks to be in great condition across each panel. There appear to be no signs of corrosion or dents to the panels, and the panel gap/shut-lines all look great across the car, just as you would expect for a modern performance car.

Paint

Finished in white, this Audi S3 really does look the part. The paint has an excellent lustre and colour to it, even across each panel.

Interior

A premium-feeling performance-focused interior with 'S' Sport seats to hold you tight into the corners.

Seats and Carpets

The all-black leather sport seats really do look the part and are finished with a quality above other hot hatches. Embossed with the all-important 'S', the seat bolsters to hold you tight as you take corners with the Quattro system doing its job. The seats look great within this car, with just some minor creases in line with the age and mileage.

The black carpet is fitted throughout also appears in great condition, take a look at the extensive photos and videos for a detailed tour of the cabin.

Dashboard

A clean, clear and minimal dashboard setup supplies the driver with all the information they would ever need. A subtle boost gauge in the rev counter, also shows this car means business. The dashboard all looks to be in excellent condition and all the gauges and dials are reported to be working.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with a flat bottomed S3 steering wheel with multifunction controls, the steering wheel is in great condition throughout in line with the rest of the car.

Mechanics

A lightweight alloy cylinder head and large turbo allow the third generation S3 to be far more powerful than its predecessor.

Engine and Gearbox

This is what really sets the S3 apart from the crowd - a turbocharged ~296BHP 2.0L inline-four. The engine features new pistons with stronger bolts, rings, and reinforced connecting rods. All this new technology and engineering makes the engine 5kg lighter than the previous generation, allowing you to swiftly hit 60MPH in 4.6 seconds.

The engine is coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox, which Scott reports allows you to swiftly work your way upto speed, smoothly without fault.

Suspension and Brakes

The S3 is fitted with 25mm lower and stiffer springs than the standard A3. When this is combined with the 4WD quattro system, the car sticks to the road like glue!

The car is fitted with larger 'S' callipers to tame the extra power offered, Scott reports the brakes and suspension have always been serviced to when required, with no known issues to note.

The Drive

Very responsive acceleration combined with all that grip means that you can take off in straight lines very quickly.

The S3 is a very versatile performance car, with lots of cabin space and a turbocharged flat-4 the car delivers 296bhp, offering the best of both usability and power.

Electrics and Other

This car is fully equipped with Audi's entertainment system. All the electrical features are fully working, owners report. As well as the quad sports exhaust, Audi has fitted a speaker into the bulkhead, to pump some artificial engine noise into the cabin, motoring press from around the world report surprisingly good results.

History and Paperwork

The S3 will soon become a modern classic, with its Quattro four-wheel drive and turbocharged powertrain - you won't find an everyday performance car quite like it.

Scott purchased the S3 from new, and over the previous 5 years has covered ~56,000. The car comes with a healthy stack of paperwork, in the form of receipts. This S3 had new front and rear brake pads fitted last year along with a recent service in April.

Hi Andy, this was later linked to a hole in the air conditioning unit which was fully changed at Audi along with a full service.
