Introduction
Glyn Parry
Practicality at its purest, this extensive nut and bolt restored Land Rover has been built with a "50th Anniversary" Defender inspiration in mind, what a result.
The Land Rover 90 is a go-anywhere off-road icon; utilitarian styling, rugged chassis, all important all wheel drive. It's the versatility of these "Defenders" that have endeared the model to country folk, farmers, vets, the military, and those who want a now timeless-looking 4x4.
This particular car has undergone a significant transformation in the current ownership, going from a bog standard 90, to what is now in effect a "50th Anniversary" inspired rebuild. Now finished in a lovely "Atlantic Green" with brown interior, the car has been upgraded to a 3.5L V8, paired to an automatic gearbox, and has had a proper body-off restoration actioned. Some choice upgrades like LED daytime running lights, modern hifi and with added sound deadening for the cabin, it makes this 90 a great value proposition resto-mod when you consider the price of the "50th Anniversary" Defenders.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Could you provide a bit more info on the engine and gear box. What is their history in terms of recent overhaul. Also is log easily removed if desired? Will it make a mess of the interior?
Arthur
The engine was stripped and checked. The following parts were renewed and the heads were de-coked, valves reground into their seats and the engine rebuilt. New Parts inc: Camshaft and followers/buckets, timing chain and sprocket, oil pump gears, crankshaft front and rear seals . New gaskets throughout. Oil and Air filters, water pump and thermostat, Distributor and coil with leads, temp. senders. Front engine cover replaced for a good used item as old one had one cracked bolt thread.
Carbs were stripped and refurbished by a carb. specialist and when rebuilt the tuning was setup by another specialist to ensure emissions etc are within tolerances.
The gearbox was stripped and rebuilt by Auto gearbox specialists, with a reconditioned oil pump and torque converter. New Oil filter and transmission fluid used.
The LPG could be removed easily, I have ensured that the rubber matting runs underneath and to the sides so that should it be removed the mat would not need to be replaced.
That sounds very comprehensive. You didn’t mention the date of this work but presumably recently. I will try to get to Warwick to look at it if possible.
Hopefully final q for now but roughly what hp is engine. What do you pay for instance?
Insurance…..
The engine was done between late 2019 and mid 2020. I think first startup was Oct 2020. Don’t know the HP, it has no modifications so it should be close to standard Rover V8 . Its enough for me!
Insurance costs me about £150 pa on a classic policy.
