Introduction

Colin Bashford
Professional Photographer

A combination of power, style, and unrivalled luxury - these GT's can do it all.

The XKR took on the baton from the previous model and enhanced its sporting personality without losing what makes the model completely unique - its ability to munch the miles in utter comfort. Beautifully composed at all speeds, the XKR is both playful and practical. With the reliable 4.2-litre V8 supercharged engine emulating a muscle-car soundtrack, it's easy to forget that deep within this elegant GT package lays a technological tour-de-force that also oozes quality and generates envy. In short, it's a Jaguar and one that is now lauded as one of their best.

With just one previous keeper under its belt, this example has an extensive Jaguar main dealer service history and evidence of a careful ownership profile. It is presented with 11 months MOT, last serviced in June 2021 and over £4,000 worth of recent spending which includes a full set of recently refurbished alloys. The car is also well specified from new with the Bower and Wilkins entertainment system, satnav/phone/hands free, 16 way adjustable and heated seats, self levelling headlights etc. If you're in the market for an XKR, look no further.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Colin after meeting David the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Every time I drive it, and you hear that V8 soundtrack, it feels like a special occasion!

Captivated by the timeless elegant lines of the XKR, David the owner was persuaded to take it on thanks to the car's low mileage, one owner from new and generous paperwork. Of course, it's not just the handsome styling that appeals, but its practicality and its sporty sense of occasion that appeal to him. He's a sports car fanatic, and is lucky enough to have owned many cars from Aston Martins through to Jaguars over his ~40 years of driving.

However, he came across another XKR fairly recently, a more modern example which he couldn't refuse, and as a result this well-kept example is now available. David will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

The structure of the car is good, with no issues in regards to the floor pan, inner wings or engine bay although the rear subframe displays a light coating of surface corrosion. Watch the video review to see the bodywork condition.

Paint

The "Lunar Grey" paint finish has an even deep coverage, with no signs of poorly matched colour, what you'd expect given the provenance.

The car retains a healthy gleam, with minor signs of light blemishes expected on a car of this age. There are minor stone chips observed on the nose of the car. View the extensive photo gallery to see the car from all angles.

Glass and Trim

There are no outstanding issues in regards to the glass, with no lamination damage or cracks spotted on the glass.

The 16 way adjustable leather heated seats are in good shape, with minor signs of wear observed on the outer bolster of the driver's seat, but all are rip-free with intact stitching. These seats help to make the miles go by with ease.

The carpets are clean and damp-free, with no marks or signs of neglect. View the extensive picture gallery to see the details.

The dashboard and top of the facia are in very good condition, with no outstanding distractions observed. The centre leather combo console is in good condition, with the polished centrepiece retaining a good lustre.

The plastics have lasted well, with minor marks noted in the rear of the cabin, but overall the interior presentation is positive. The door cards and headlining along with the fully functional dials, switches and controls are in good shape.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is in good condition, with minor marks in places but has worn well. The gear knob has a few more signs of use but is still very presentable. This is a very smart cabin.

Capable of high mileages with reliability, the supercharged V8 soundtrack is highly addictive!

Engine and Gearbox

The car comes with evidence of regular upkeep and maintenance, so as to be expected for a car that has yet to crack 70K on the clock, it runs and handles as one would hope.

The car starts up with no issues, with no unwanted noises coming from the engine, with none of the dashboard lights flagging up trouble. On the move, the car glides majestically, with a smooth power delivery and no problems with the gear shifts. The physical condition of the engine supports its pampered lifestyle.

The Drive

With a ~420BHP supercharged 4.2-litre V8 engine in charge, the experience is simply unforgettable. While its brisk acceleration is still considered above par, the car's natural ability to cruise in comfort is its key attribute.

The car relies on decent rubber, along with meticulous attention to the servicing and maintenance, which makes this example a particularly attractive example.

Electrics and Other

The car is said to be free of any electrical issues, and the paperwork suggests that on the rare occasion any trouble that came up, it was dealt with straight away at the main dealer or specialists. The car comes with a detailed level of provenance, with evidence that over £4,000 of recent spending to address cosmetics. Thanks. I thought the service should be every year regardless of mileage? Is there any corrosion/bubbles to the bodywork? Looking at the front screen is there some damage or de-lamination at the top?

See some of recent services are 2/3 years apart, is that correct?
Lovely place North Berwick, we have played golf on the West Links there for many years!

Hi David

Does the air conditioning/heating work correctly?
How long have you owned the car?

Thanks
