Introduction
Glyn Parry
What started as a small, cheap to run city car, was transformed into one of the greatest hot hatches of the 80s.
Designed by Michael Boue who was a car designer in his spare time, Renault were so impressed with Boue’s work that they immediately authorized a development program and work began on the Renault 5. It was designed to be one of the first modern supermini’s which would feature Reanult’s patented hatchback design, as used on the Renault 16 in 1965. To keep up with the modern day traffic, after a few years the engine size was increased to 1108cc and 1289cc, and then finally the 1397cc, which eventually had the Garrett T2 turbocharger bolted to it, along with a newly fitted body kit. This would create one of the most popular hot hatches of the 80s and 90s, up there with the likes of the Golf GTI and Peugeot 205 GTI, but running a much smaller turbocharged engine.
Originally, this Phase I was used as a demo car in France, before it was purchased at 6 months old and taken to Portugal where it resided until it came to the UK in 1990. This car is coming to market from 7 years ownership where it has been been through a restoration back to an as near as possible, factory condition, Renault 5 GT Turbo.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hello, have tried searching for internal measurements online but cant find any, sorry to ask, but as I am 6’3″, will I fit into the car? Thks Lee
I have a few friends around 6ft who own Renault 5’s and they do fit with the seat fully back but they are a small car so please be mindful that it wont be as spacious as a modern car.
Hello Lee
Where has he car originated from ?
Regards
The person I bought it from lived in Portugal and had it there, he brought it back to the UK a few times during his ownership and then permanently when he moved back for good. I then got it from him. I am sure he said he got it from France. The owner was an older gent who had bought it for him and his wife to remember their son who had passed away that had owned a Gordini Turbo.
Hi Lee, do you know the history of the car between 2009 & 2015 to explain how it covered 95k kms with no MOT history ? Also were there any advisories at last MOT and do you intend to MOT the vehicle before sale ? Thanks
Hello , the vehicle was driven on trade plates to have the engine work, suspension and brakes replaced prior to having a MOT. The vehicle was in Portugal where the previous owner lived, then he moved back to the UK and brought it back in 2014. If it meets the reserve I have no issue in having the MOT done again. There was no MOT advisories on the last MOT. It has done 51 KM’s since the last MOT so cant see there being any issues on the next one.
Thanks for confirming all that
