The last of the raw V8 analogue cars that every enthusiast reminisces about, it's classic Ferrari.

Replacing the 308/328 formula was no simple job, this new 348 had to be simply brilliant. The 348 was the last Ferrari that Enzo had input in to, designed by Leonardo Fioravanti it was the first V8 to be mounted Longitudinal, a revolutionary step and often seen in the sports cars of today.

Over its 6 years of production, it saw a number of constant improvements, obvious in this late 1994 car. The top speed was now over ~170MPH, the handling greatly improved with suspension revisions, and built quality was at an all-time high.

This GTS with its removable Targa top is one of the last of the old-school raw Ferraris. Only 218 GTS are out there and this is the only Nero UK imported RHD in existence. Tom and Jane purchased this very rare black stallion back in 2016, they really wanted to experience the last true analogue Ferrari, they both love regular road trips in the summer and praise how the car feels to drive. With a modest mileage of ~45,000 and a fresh engine out major belts service actioned at a cost of ~£4,400, this is a strong car coming to market.

Tom and Jane purchased this rare Nero Black 348 GTS back in 2016 after searching for a classic sports car they could enjoy on road trips during the summer. The 348 really stood out to them, and after seeing the condition and provenance this GTS had to offer, they were sold.

More recently, the car hasn't seen as much use as when they first purchased it, and so they both feel now the time is right for someone else to enjoy this rare example. Pop up head lights, Nero black paintwork and those distinctive 80s side strakes.

Wheels and Tyres

This Ferrari is fitted with its original 17" 5-Spoke star-shaped wheels, which present in great condition on each corner.

The 17" wheels are all wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tyres at the front and Expedias at the rear, and date code visible on the front tyres shows 2016. All sets of tyres appear in great condition with lots of tread left. Take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the car.

Bodywork

All the shut lines appear straight and tight on this 348, just as you would expect from the build quality of these later Ferraris. The doors, bonnet and boot all open and close cleanly and precisely. The targa roof mechanism is easy to operate.

When getting really close to the car we noticed the odd stone chip. We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

We were caught out by a quick shower when photographing the car, importantly however, the video footage of the exterior is with the car dry, and so you can really see the quality and condition of this car.

Finished in Nero Black, the colour is what makes this car so unique. Tom reports that out of the 14 imported GTS's this is the only UK RHD Nero Black example.

Each panel presents a deep lustre along with even coverage and colour throughout. Tom reports he believes it's the original paint.

Glass and Trim

All the glass and Black trim looks in great condition, the glass is clean and free from any major cracks, chips or scratches.

Interior

Black leather trim, choice Giallo accents, an iconic open gated shifter, this cabin is every bit Italian sports car.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather sports seats look in great condition, only the very slightest signs of age with very light creases to the drivers side bolster. The 348 is finished with designer carpets, yellow prancing horses, and carbon fibre kick plates with 'Ferrari' finished in bright yellow.

The condition of this interior is a testament to great upkeep by Tom and Jane, and the previous owners, one cracking example. Take a look at the detailed media content for a look yourselves.

Dashboard

Bright orange figures on the dials supply you with all the technical information you require. With chrome ring surrounds on these dials, Tom mentions everything is working as it should. The odometer showed ~44,705 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A black sports steering wheel with Ferrari detailing is fitted. Tom reports the steering wheel was recovered with the 348 logo, highlighted in the Italian flag tricolours.

The gearstick has been replaced for an in-keeping carbon fibre model, with the original included within the sale.

Mechanics

The naturally aspirated V8 was turned 90degrees and set lower into the chassis - now offering ~320BHP and a top speed of ~171MPH.

Engine and Gearbox

The GTS began production in 1993, and offered a less restrictive exhaust as well as a wider rear track than the TS/TB models. Horsepower was increased by ~20BHP, using the F119H Engine with raised compression ratio due to a different exhaust and engine management system (Motronic 2.7). This engine is coupled to the five-speed manual gearbox with dog-leg pattern.

Tom reports the clutch was replaced recently at ~40,000 miles and a major service including belts has just been actioned, along with engine bay detail, at a cost of £4,400.

Suspension and Brakes

Numerous tweaks and updates improved the suspension geometry over the years, Tom assures us that this later car handles as you'd expect for a '90s Ferrari and also stops just as it should do too.

With the car having been regularly serviced throughout its life by main dealers and specialists, the suspension and brakes have always been tended to when needed e.g. brake fluid change and safety checks.

The Drive

With ~320BHP, the 348 was quick by the standards of the time, achieving 62mph in 5.4s and topping out at 171mph.

This 348 completes the gap between the 328 and 355 and created the blueprint for all modern mid-engined Ferraris. With it's stunning aerodynamic looks and all the power from the 3.4L naturally aspirated V8, we couldn't think of a better car to spend summer in.

Electrics and Other

Tom reports that everything is working as it should, although he mentioned the 348 GTS has an intermittent E2 Error on the HIVAC.

A very attractive and rare UK Registered Nero Black 348 GTS is coming to auction with a mileage of ~45,000 and just 2 previous registered keepers. This Ferrari has been very well kept mechanically and cosmetically by main dealers and specialists around the country. Tom reports the clutch was replaced at ~40,000. Additionally, the car has just had a major service this month with belts and water pump renewed at a cost of £4,400.

Tom has detailed the various options and items the car comes with below;

Nero paint, with black leather interior, 17-inch original wheels, yellow callipers, electric windows, electric mirrors, A/C, C/L, ABS, Targa top, chrome rings around gauges, yellow brake lines, carbon fibre kick plate with ‘Ferrari’ in yellow, Scuderia shields on wings, sports cats & exhausts, Targa top bag with 348 GTS embroidered in yellow, Ferrari radio, steering wheel recovered with the 348 logo and highlighted in the Italian tricolour colours, designer carpet mats, Ferrari toolkit in leather holder and all the original books, including the stamped service record in original Ferrari leather document holder, indoor Ferrari car cover, seat covers and steering wheel cover.

The current registration will be replaced with the original ‘Maranello Sales’ registration plates which are ‘L273 EPJ’.

Afternoon,

Lovely looking car !

I have a question regarding a couple of mileages in the service / mot history.

On the January 2008 MOT the mileage doesn’t tie up with the rest , I think its rather clear this was probably a mistake however just wondered if you had ever looked into this or had any paperwork surrounding it to show the correct mileage at that time in order to rule it out?

Also the next service after this MOT in April 2008 at 31,068 is a higher mileage than recorded on the August 2008 MOT which back is down at 29,858.

Any info surrounding these mileages would be appreciated.

Hi, Thanks for getting in touch about the mileage discrepancy with the MOT. The error was back in 2008, 10 years before we bought the car. We have been in touch with the DVSA and they say there was all kinds of errors back then and they are inundated every day with similar calls. They said some were recorded in error in kilometres instead of miles and the biggest problem was the handwritten records. There were many errors with stations recording the wrong mileages or DVLA recording the mileages wrongly from the records provided. The DVSA advised that since the MOT stations are no longer in existence, it is better to go with the service history in this case. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Yes i know the old mot’s can be a bit of a nightmare , frustrating when garages/dvsa haven’t taken the care to note correct mileages especially on a car like this, However i do agree that’s its down to a error somewhere along the line as everything else stacks up correctly.

Would it be possible to arrange a viewing of the car this week sometime, I am down in Dunfermline so not too far.
