A proper GT that was a revolution not an evolution from Aston Martin.

Very few cars can make a statement like an Aston Martin. The DB9 managed to combine classic styling cues from the past with a modern flow of graceful lines that have given the car an almost ageless look. Typically, finished to a high standard, the hand-stitched interiors, go hand in hand with the contemporary demands for high technology but the car's sumptuous comfort and ability to cruise at high speeds is what the DB9 is all about. The ~450BHP V12 engine offered blistering performance and hinted at the potential for the car in motorsports. A car that appeals to the soul, the DB9 is also surprisingly capable of dealing with everyday driving conditions.

This car was bought new in 2005 and has been with its current owner ever since. It comes with full-service history and has only covered a very modest ~35,500 miles for a GT of this nature and age. Presented in very good condition in like with the low mileage, this car is worth a close look for sure.

Meet the owner

I used it mainly for business, but it was the perfect car for Ascot!

Bought new from Lancaster Reading, the DB9 was used on a regular basis mainly for business but the owner resisted the temptation to use it for errands. Mike had an unfortunate incident with the car, where it veered off the road and through some bushes, the superficial damage was to the bodywork and Mike mentions the air-bags didn't even go off. However, at the time the work required meant it was enough to consider the car an insurance loss (Cat D). Since he owned the car from new, and having spoken to the garage who assessed it, he decided to get the work actioned himself and so bought the car back and had it professionally repaired, as you see it today.

Mike has not really used the car since the pandemic, and has taken to the daily driver more often than the Aston. As a result, he has elected that it needs to find a new owner who will use and enjoy the car more. He'll be more than happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Voluptuous and alluring, the DB9's styling still holds it own today, a definite modern classic.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19" factory 10 spoke alloys are in good shape, with no significant kerb damage or wear. They could do with a deep clean to help make them shine again.

The Bridgestone tyres have above the legal tread, the front items are under ten years old, with the rear tyres fitted around five years ago. View the image gallery to see the detail.

Bodywork

There are no outstanding issues with the presentation of the body, the aluminium panel fit is cohesive with even panel gaps. The structure of the car looks good, with no notable issues with the wheel arches, doors or bonnet. The car had a Category D insurance loss claim in May 2016 when Mike had a collision to the front, the insurers choosing not to repair due to the cost involved, but Mike had the car repaired to a very high quality. All of the doors open and close with no issues.

Paint

The desirable "Meteorite Silver" paint finish has a very good and even coverage, with no signs of flatness or hazing. The car has been stored indoors throughout its life with no signs of outdoor element build-up.

The hue has a decent lustre and is generally free from large road chips, with just a handful of minor blemishes noted on the front bumper.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in very good shape, with no notable damage. A tiny mark on the base of the rear screen may suggest a little lamination damage but there is precious little else to worry about.

The trim is complete and in good shape with no evidence of age. The front light lenses are crystal clear, the nearside rear lamp has a minor scuff.

Interior

The beautiful hand-stitched leather trim and luxurious wood panelling are the tell tale hallmarks of an Aston Martin.

Seats and Carpets

The "Obsidian Black" leather seats are in good shape with the expected signs of age in line with the car, but are free from any rips or significant wear. The images may show a little debris on the back seats, but these shouldn't be viewed as damage. The carpets are in good shape and all are bone dry and in line with the rest of the cabin simply need a deep valet.

Dashboard

The dashboard is well presented, with nothing much more than the odd minor mark but the stitching and condition are decent with no significant signs of damage noted on the switchgear, veneer, controls or dials. The air-conditioning blows icy cold and the owner has stated that everything works. The car has been tucked away and not used, hence you might notice some dust etc which a deep valet would fix.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is in line with the low mileage of the car and doesn't display any significant issues. The gearbox paddles show minor wear but are otherwise in good shape.

Mechanics

Effortless performance at any speed, the V12 is on tap if you need a fix or also more than comfortable and capable cruising with ease.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine starts with no issue, the owner hasn't used the car for a while but regularly starts the car up and moves it back and forth to make sure everything remains free.

The imposing bulk of the V12 engine displays no significant issues regarding its presentation, with its hoses and ancillaries all looking good. The owner uses the dashboard controls to drive the car, simply pressing a button to drive or reverse. No issues with its operation were noted. No warning lights were seen at any point and the car is free from any form of fluid leaks.

Suspension and Brakes

The short drive didn't reveal any significant issues with the braking, the slightest of grinds was initially recorded but as the car moved there was no binding and were fully compliant with no noises. A check on the brake's visual condition is positive. The car was ordered with red-painted brake callipers from new. The suspension wasn't tested as such, but there were no unwanted noises or rattling at low-level speeds.

The Drive

A grand tourer in every sense, the owner used the car for longer work-related journeys and told us that it performed faultlessly. These cars are popular for their use on track days and driving experiences but this one has appeared to have led a relatively calm life, sticking to motorways rather than hairpin turns. A car destined for effortless long-distance cruising, the car's glorious engine note works well in conjunction with the ZF-sourced 6-speed automatic.

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with an aftermarket Road Angel speed sector console, which was fitted from new and is said to be fully operational. The owner has not reported any issues with the electronic stability control or traction control. The car is also fitted with satellite navigation and comes with a bespoke car cover.

History and Paperwork

Finished in a desirable Meteorite Silver of Obsidian Black colourway, with just one owner over its 17 years, this car is begging to be put back on the road again.

Ordered new in 2005 from Lancaster Reading, the owner has not needed to spend much on the car other than the service charges and a full set of new brake discs, pads and tyres. It comes with its original bill of sales and order form confirmation, as well as service stamps from Aston Martin and local independent specialist BBO. The owner has also mentioned that the car comes with all three of its keys.

We’ve done all include seller checks, including photo ID, and V5 and also actioned an HPi check on the vehicle; Category D insurance loss recorded in May 2016.

Hello. Is there any signs of the dreaded ‘tick’ on the engine when hot? Does it still have the CATS on the manifolds? Any pictures of the accident damage before repairs?
