Introduction
Darren Rungasamy
The Cooper Sport is a grown-up version of an enduring classic, all the iconic looks and that little something extra.
This is the automobile that kicked off the small-car revolution, and there can't be many individuals of a certain age who don't recall a tale or event that doesn't include a Mini. First seen in 1959, it popularised the front-wheel-drive transverse engine layout and the Mini soon became the template for the small car. It also proved to be handy as a competition car too, and its stock was strengthened by the use of the Cooper name as it tackled the forest and tarmac stages with aplomb. The Mini production was right up to the year 2000, by which time the writing was finally on the wall and after 41 years of production.
However, the original Mini had one last trick up its sleeve. A revitalised version was launched in 1996 and served as a swansong for the icon. These later models saw a slew of improvements, with a driver's side airbag, seatbelt pre-tensioners, side door anti-intrusion beams, an immobiliser as well as a distributor-less electronic ignition system. The top of the Mini range was the Cooper Sport and sold with an interior trimmed in black and nickel leather with 'race-style' alloy fittings, leather-trimmed steering wheel and a metallic-finish fascia. It served as a fitting tribute to what is considered one of the most loved British cars of all time.
One of the last cars to leave the Longbridge plant is this well-furnished October 2000 Mini Cooper Sport. It has recently been subjected to a professional valet and comes with good service history, its original bill of sale and the novelty of being owned by the same family for all of its life. The car is beautifully presented both inside and out, and in mechanically fine shape with evidence of regular maintenance. Garaged for much of its life, this example has just over ~40,000 miles on the clock and is a truly unique opportunity to obtain what is considered the most usable and refined Mini's ever made.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hi Jonathon, would it be possible to view the car this evening, I would be available after 5.30 to suit yourself?
Hi Dan,
5.30 is fine for me.
Just to advise you Trade Classics advises against a test drive and so it will be a viewing/inspection of the Mini and engine start up only.
Hope that’s OK with you. Are you having to travel some distance?
Jonathan
That’s fine regards viewing only, rather than publicise your address, do you want to call me or text on 07808 332921? I’m travelling from Essex enroute to the midlands but hoping to leave at 4pm.
Hi Jonathan,
I notice you refer to bodywork & roof repairs. Please confirm if this car has ever suffered accident damage.
Good morning Flav,
The only accident damage has been a small dent to the boot lid which was repaired.
The was a small area of flaking of the silver paint on the roof near the driver’s door and this was treated and resprayed. I think it was thought to be some sort of paint reaction. Both of these repairs were carried out over a decade ago.
A vehicle inspection in about 2012 identified early rust in the A panel at the lower near side windscreen corner and at the A-panel sills – the usual problem with Minis. Accordingly the car was sent to a specialist (classic) car restorer who did a careful and lasting repair. This was done during May and June of 2013. I think you can see from some of the images the quality of the work carried out. No further restorative work has been required on the vehicle since although I did replace the chrome headlight bevels last year because of spotting on the chrome (and kept the originals).
I hope that helps.

Hi Jonathan,
When would I be able to come and view your Mini?
I believe its situated in Aylesbury which would be roughly an hour away for me.
I can make time day or evenings.
Many thanks
Les
Hi Les,
I can arrange a viewing tomorrow afternoon at 3pm if that suits. I am based in the old town centre of Aylesbury.
Jonathan
Hi,
Can I let you know tomorrow when I have had a chance to chat to a knowledgeable guy a know.
Thanks
Les
That’s okay Les.
Because of a prior appointment I won’t be available to respond to your message until about 13.00 tomorrow.
Also, Trade Classics advises it’s sellers not to arrange test drives so it would be a viewing only – I can of course start up the engine for you too.
Jonathan
All understand
Hi Jonathan,
Would 4.30 be acceptable today?
Les
Hi Les,
Can you do tomorrow morning? I can do 4.30 today at a pinch but we are now going to catch rush hour in Aylesbury and that is never good ( I have to go and collect the car from a garage) . Please let me know in next few minutes.
Hi,
Don’t worry tonight then.
I’m busy all day tomorrow in theory, just depends on progress.
Les
I can make it for 4.30 if this is only time you can make before auction ends. You might well get caught in the traffic though later.
Jonathan
Hi Les,
I can make any time for a viewing today except 17.30 when there is a confirmed other viewing. Thanks,
regards,
Jonathan
