Introduction

Alan Stuart
Vehicle Consigner and Photographer

Stylish, quick and with serious rally heritage - in the original era of the hot hatch there were few with this kind of pedigree.

The Lancia Delta Integrale is a rally legend. From 1987 to 1992 the company, the car and its drivers virtually owned the World Rally Championship podium. 46 victories overall, 6 consecutive Constructors’ championship wins and drivers’ championship titles for Juha Kankkunen and Miki Biasion.

As with all Group A competition cars, homologation rules meant road-going versions needed to be produced and the result was this iconic sporting hatchback. Even 32 years on, the Delta Integrale can leave many modern cars, with sporting pretensions, a long way behind! The performance, the handling, the driving experience and the visual appeal are all there for sure, but this car is about much more than that. These cars have the automotive warmth and soul that is uniquely Italian.

This 1990 "Integrale" is a stunning example. Presented in the ever popular "Rosso Monza" red, with newly retrimmed Alcantara seats and in superb condition throughout, it looks absolutely fantastic. The history file is incredible with the best part of 100 documents showing the care and attention that’s been lavished on this car. Recent mechanical work including to the gearbox and clutch make this a ready to use, highly desirable classic with a lineage that’s second to none. With Evo and Evo II prices having gone through the roof in the last couple of years, the 16V is well worth looking at.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This is a beautiful car and there's a real sense of history about it - driving it is an experience you don’t easily forget.

Paul has owned this car for just under 3 years, he tells us “It’s been great! – I’m a bit of a perfectionist to be honest so I’ve had to make sure everything is just right”. He goes on to say “I really hope a new owner will love it as much as I have – all the hard work is done, and it really is ready to enjoy”.

In June 2020, Paul had a major service actioned on the car which came to a total of ~£5,000, with the car having done ~1,000KMs since. He will be happy to answer any questions about his beautiful Lancia in the comments section below.

Exterior

The styling on these cars is every bit motorsport, boxed arches, twin headlights and sculpted bonnet hint at something special underneath.

Wheels and Tyres

The classic “Teledial”, 15-inch alloy wheels look in fantastic condition having been fitted as OE specification replacements in 2018.

The centre badges, also new, present well and the Fulda 205/60/R15 tyres appear in good shape with plenty of tread remaining. View the image gallery to see the details.

Bodywork

This stunning Lancia stands straight, shut lines appear good and all doors, tailgate and bonnet open and close with precision.

The electric sunroof works perfectly as you can see in the "On The Road" video. The car underwent some major renovation work with a previous owner in 2018 with marque specialists Tank Barratt, as captured in the invoices. The only points we could spot to note were two small areas of corrosion, 50p size, towards the front of each front wing. Check out the images and exterior video to see for yourself just how great this car looks.

Paint

The bright red "Rosso Monza" paintwork has to be one of the very best colours for these cars. The shine is deep, even and consistent right across the car.

There are a few age-related marks, but we are being really picky, the car actually presents superbly. Take a look at the photos and video.

Glass and Trim

Windscreen, rear screen and original Lancia branded glass side windows in very good condition.

Mirrors and lenses look great with no significant scratches or chips, and the black trim across the car all looks in good condition too.

Interior

Classic styling extends to the interior with a perfect blending of form and function, the retrimmed Alcantara seats with original cloth inserts look superb.

Seats and Carpets

The seats have been recently retrimmed to the original style with new Alcantara on the outers and original sourced cloth replaced where needed. They now look and feel absolutely stunning.

The carpets are in great shape, with new HF mats purchased in the current ownership, and the headlining is new too.

Dashboard

Clear, sporty dash is completely in keeping with period styling yet somehow this car belies its ~32 years.

Dials are clear, perspex is unbroken and all switches, buttons and gauges look in good condition. Paul assures us everything works exactly as it should to his knowledge.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The 3 spoke steering wheel looks in very good condition as does the gear stick, gaiter and centre console.

Do check out the interior video and images. We think you’ll agree – the interior is amazing.

Mechanics

A turbocharged 2.0L 16 valve twin-cam power-plant is enough to propel this iconic, rally thoroughbred to a ~137MPH top speed and 0-60 in 5.7 seconds.

Engine and Gearbox

Pushing 212BHP out to all four wheels through a notchy 5 speed gearbox the drivetrain on these cars is built to deliver. And deliver it does – the unit revs freely, has torque to spare and will keep you grinning with every mile.

This car had a rebuilt gearbox fitted in 2020 at a cost of nearly £6,000. In addition, there is documentary evidence of engine work in 2018 totalling nearly £5,000 including cylinder head replacement by Tank Barratt. Watch the video review to see car fire up and out and about on a short run.

Suspension and Brakes

With discs all round, vented at the front, solid at the rear, underpinned by rally engineering you can be assured the Integrale will stop it as well goes.

On our brief test drive with Paul the car felt planted and stopped evenly with no sign of judder or pulling to either side, the brake system having been serviced as part of the work in 2020.

The Drive

There are cars, and there are drivers’ cars – the Lancia Delta HF Integrale is undeniably in the latter category. The drive was everything you would expect from an Italian rally stalwart.

Pulling quickly and without hesitation the engine was responsive, lively and engaging while the handling was taught and communicative. All with the promise much more. Ok, there’s a bit of trim rattle but this is the early 90’s!

Electrics and Other

All switches, dials and gauges appear undamaged, and Paul confirms all work exactly as they should. A Blaupunkt radio/cassette is fitted for which Paul has the code and, again, we are assured works perfectly.

History and Paperwork

Simply a wonderful car, a UK delivered LHD like all of the Delta HF Integrales, this one has had significant expenditure over the years and now presents in great condition.

There’s so much to love about this car – the scarcity, the investment potential, the drive, the heritage, the looks, the list goes on. It’s worth having an Integrale for any one of these reasons but above all this a car with the soul that only Italy can create. We’re sure you’ll fall in love with it – we have!

There’s a massive history file containing receipts showing literally £1,000’s of expenditure, in fact, over £15,000 in the last five years alone, a significant portion with Tank Barratt no less. Original handbooks and service manuals are included together with performance charts and some charming period newspaper cuttings. It really is worth taking the time to have a good the through the history file – it reads like a great novel!

Two keys are included. The car has previously been given the non original registration of A15 DLN - we understand this registration will remain with the car as part of the sale.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
