HISTORY LESSON

The MKII Ford Focus RS was launched to much anticipation in 2009. Ford couldn’t believe just how popular the MKI version was, and so rekindling the RS brand with the MKII was always on the cards.

Quoting figures of 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds, this is a hot, hot hatchback indeed. And how did Ford manage to deliver this I hear you ask; modified Volvo-designed 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo engine (301BHP from factory), all the power through the front wheels managed intelligently using the Ford-designed RevoKnuckle suspension, and LSD to further handle the delivery of the power.

This particular Focus RS we have on sale has been upgraded both mechanically, and more visibly from the exterior. The already menacing bodywork has been further enhanced with a lower front splitter, and 5 spoke wheels. Paul, the seller, tells us that mechanically the car has been upgraded to output over 400BHP through improvements to the intercooler, exhaust system, and the engine mapping.

THE CAR & PAUL

Paul Stephens has owned and enjoyed the car for just over 6 months. Being a petrol-head, he’s wanted a Focus RS for some time, mentioning that the car gives him a feeling of “getting back to my youth“. He travelled to Sheffield for this particular car, ensuring it was in the condition he was looking for.

Along with having owned many ‘drivers cars’, including Porsche, Paul enjoys his time on the motorbike and is looking to sell the Focus RS as the warmer months approach and get back on the bike. With the weather we’ve just had it seems a million miles away, but we can just about stretch the imagination.

He’s used the car mainly for trips on the weekends, taking it to motorbike shows, off to the golf course (importantly the boot fits his clubs in without an issue), and has ensured he has pampered the car with regular wash and wax etc whenever he’s taken it for a quick blast.

EXTERIOR

Finished in the RS colour of Ford Performance Blue, and with the RS styling across the bodywork, the car looks ready to spring into action at a moments notice.

Wheels & Tyres
The car is fitted with 5 spoke 19″ Rota GTR alloy wheels, with Michelin tyres all round. The wheels looked in great condition, as can be seen in the media.

Bodywork
The bodywork looks in honest condition, the styling flares that come with the RS really setting the car off, and we didn’t observe any dents in the bodywork. The low front splitter has some visible scratches on it, which you can review in the media.

Paint
The paintwork on the car looks fresh as you would expect with a 2009 car that has been looked after. The combination of the flared bodywork and large wheels on the RS are notorious for picking stone-chips. This car being a 73,000 mile example has honest paintwork on close inspection to reflect this. Please review the detailed video so that you can judge for yourself.

Glass and Trim
Glass and trim were all in good order.

INTERIOR

We were very glad to get back in the car after photographing the exterior. the RS Recaro seats fully supporting, and the heater blasting out hot air so we could find the feeling in our fingers again.

Seats and Carpets
The Recaro seats are in good condition, some small signs of wear on the supporting bolsters of the drivers seat. Carpets all looked in good condition with the RS mats.

Dashboard
All lights and displays looked to be in working order, and the car is fitted with the Sony CD player stereo.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
Both are original and in good condition as highlighted in our media pack.

MECHANICS & ELECTRICS

We took the car with Paul around the local area on a short run. I felt the ride was very smooth, and we managed to get the turbo engaged on some of the wider roads, this Focus RS is a real pocket-rocket.

Engine and Gearbox
Take a look at the video which shows the car starting from cold on the button, no issues heard on start-up. On the short run, Paul went through the gears without an issue, and the car warmed up and idled constantly at rest whilst we were photographing too. We’ve included some video of the turbo boost engaging too.

Suspension and Brakes
On the smooth roads around Birmingham the car glided along without an issue. Some hard breaking after going on the turbo boost was also very smooth, no squeaking or rattling.

The Drive
Smooth and fast, as you would expect with a Focus RS. Some short video in the meet the owner section also highlighting this.

Electrics and Other
Paul reports no electrical issues with everything working as it should.

HISTORY

This Ford Focus RS has covered 73,000 miles since 2009. We’ve included photographs of all the receipts, and the stamps in the service book.

We have checked the VIN number and it matches the original paperwork.

Mileage recorded on HPI check as follows:

70,878 miles recorded on 17 Mar 2017
65,976 miles recorded on 14 Apr 2016
55,168 miles recorded on 16 Mar 2015
45,789 miles recorded on 31 Mar 2014
36,707 miles recorded on 15 May 2013
25,639 miles recorded on 16 May 2012
16,000 miles recorded on 24 Jun 2011

OUR SUMMARY

The Fast Ford market has continued to grow in recent times, and we have no doubt that the MKII Focus RS will be a collectors item in the future.

This example we have on sale from Paul has been cared for, but also importantly for a drivers car, driven and enjoyed.

It’s in my favourite colour of blue, and it’s ready for a new custodian to drive away on the day. If you are looking for an honest Fast Ford that you can own and cherish that’s priced sensibly, then this could be the car for you.
