The 993 is Porsche’s most evolved version of the air-cooled Stuttgart classic 911.

The ultimate version of the air-cooled 911 dynasty arrived in 1993, but despite its familiar power plant, it was a new car from the ground up. For many purists, the 993 is the one to have, combining the original ethics of the 911 dart-like playfulness with the added confidence of its reassuring multi-link rear suspension.

Serving as a fine entry point to those who often wondered what all the fuss is about, the Carrera, which retains the classic rear engined rear wheel drive layout, is enhanced by its modernised detailing, giving the coupe a much more contemporary appearance. A refined yet genuinely sporting driving experience, the 993 flew the flag almost single-handedly for Porsche before the generation of water-cooled Porsches took on the baton.

This beautifully presented 1994 911 Carrera has been with the vendor for the past ~2 years, coming from a collection of cars prior to that. Finished in "Midnight Blue Metallic" over grey leather interior, this car has the 8-way electric and heated seats, and also a Tiptronic model with cruise control too. Just 5 former keepers and a nice history file documented maintenance, the car has most recently been serviced in January and is now ready for a new owner to use and enjoy.

When the time comes, I'm 100% returning to the 993, no other car has made me as happy as this one.

One of the key things when buying a Porsche is how well it’s been maintained. Andrew was drawn to this car, not only because of the lovely condition and the relatively low mileage for the age of the vehicle, but also because the service history is excellent. He bought it the day he saw it, having sourced the car from a collector of Porsche and other exotica. Along with the noise of the flat six rising in revs, he loves the look of the car telling us "Coming out of a hotel or restaurant on a summer evening and walking up to it, from any angle this car makes me happy".

He recently has had a baby, and tells us "Try as I might to convince my wife it's practical to have her and the baby in the back (honestly, the rear engine warmth and vibration really does put the baby to sleep)....but I lost that battle, my foreseeable future is now a 2-tonne barge filled with children and equipment". With curves in all the right places - this 911 looks simply stunning finished in Midnight Blue Metallic.

Wheels and Tyres

The original 17” five spoke alloy wheels are in excellent condition with no signs of any kerb damage, ensuring the car retains its beautiful stock stance. Fitted with matching Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres with very little wear.

Bodywork

The bodywork on the 993 presents extremely well. The panel gaps are equal on the doors, bonnet and engine cover. The doors open easily and shut with a reassuring clunk; an electric sunroof operates correctly, and the rear spoiler also raises as it should.

Looking around the 993, the only faults we could pick out were a small parking mark on the leading edge of the nearside rear arch and a small blister at the bottom of the rear window and the windscreen's base, both of which are pretty common to see on a 993.

Paint

Finished in "Midnight Blue Metallic" (L39C), the paintwork for this 1994 911 is in lovely condition. There are a few stone chips, as you would expect to see on any vehicle this age. There are a few small chips to the door edges, but generally it looks like a well cared for car.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The electric windows are all in good condition with no noticeable scratches spotted. The seals also look to be in good condition with no perishing.

The headlights are in excellent order with no chips to the lenses, and the same can be said for the fog lights and indicators. At the rear, the distinctive red reflector strip at the back end is bright and clear with no damage, to match the lights. Andrew has swapped out the rear amber lights for all red Turbo ones, importantly he's including the originals with the sale.

Interior

Dark blue and Marble grey leather make up the interior to create a light and airy feel inside the cabin of the 993.

Seats and Carpets

The 8 way electric and heated seats are finished in "Marble Grey", "Pleated leather" (939/982) and are in superb condition. There is some light creasing to the outer bolsters as you would expect, but any wear is at an absolute minimum.

The grey carpets are in good order and have been kept clean with a set of blue fitted Porsche mats which are also in good condition. These are items added by Andrew, but the original grey items come with the car too. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition, finished in dark blue leather, and there is no damage to mention. The instruments are in good clean condition with no scratches to the faces, all working correctly.

The car comes with a phone mount added to the left hand gauge, and Andrew mentions "It's a little thing, but the mount is rock solid so your phone doesn't shake around when driving which I really appreciate". He also goes on to tell us "I swapped out the handbrake tray and cup holders from plastic to leather, although you can't really see the difference, they're just softer to the touch. Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is finished in blue leather to match the dashboard. There is some light shining to the rim, in keeping with the mileage. The automatic gear selector is in good condition, with no apparent marks to mention.

Mechanics

Probably one of the most famous engines of all time - we present the 3.6 litre air-cooled flat-six.

Engine and Gearbox

The flat-six fires up without hesitation with no untoward noises or smoke, as seen in our mechanical review. Having had a service at the start of the year, the car has been given a clean bill of health and is said to be free from any of the leaks that this era of 911 can suffer. The regular servicing history, as well as the visible condition were what gave Andrew the confidence to purchase the same day he viewed. As per the documented history, you'll see the car was in long-term storage between 2012-2018, associated pre-set down service and service when the car was put in to action again were completed by Porsche specialists Autowerke.

Fitted with a four-speed Tiptronic gearbox, the change is effortless and smooth as the car pulls well through the gears. Watch the video to see the car in action around the local streets.

Suspension and Brakes

The 993 offers a firm ride without being too harsh on uneven roads. During our test drive, no knocks or bangs were coming from either corner of the car.

Fitted with drilled discs all around, these look in good condition with no lip spotted on the edge. Andrew reports that the Porsche comes to a halt in a straight line with no juddering through the pedal.

The Drive

Not only does the Porsche 911 (993) look amazing, but they also provide an incredible driving experience. Being the Tiptronic version makes for a pleasant drive around town, yet when out on the open road, it is still as much fun, especially when you open up the throttle to release the fantastic tone of the 3.6 litre flat-six.

Electrics and Other

Inside, the 993 is typical 90s, but the car does have everything you need. The switchgear is working as it should and looks as it should, with no signs of excessive wear. There is air conditioning which blows cold and was regassed in 2018.

There is a period looking but modern Blaupunkt Bremen head unit fitted, which also has a USB to enable mobile phone connectivity via the glovebox. Andrew mentions that the supplied DAB aerial is known to be problematic, and he didn't want to remove trim etc so this is not fitted. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

Handbooks, a well-stamped service book with regular maintenance, and two keys - all the key ingredients for a well cared for Porsche.

Having only covered ~86,800 miles in its 29 years, the 911 has gathered 15 service stamps. In addition, there are several invoices with the car for previous work carried out, with the most expensive one being for £4,272.21 in 2018. The most recent service was in January 2023, approximately ~300 miles ago. The Porsche specialist, 911 Virgin, who serviced the car, has also offered to answer any questions on the car for any serious prospective buyers.

A selection of previous MOT certificates shows the car has been taken for regular MOTs and used for just a few hundred miles each year for the past ten years. The current MOT is valid until the 24th May 2024.

The owner’s handbook and service books are present, and two keys are complete with the alarm keyfobs.
