Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
Ford gave British motorists exactly what they wanted; boxy good looks and eager performance all at an affordable price.
The Ford Escort is a small family car with a huge cult following. This is the fourth generation and a sporting model which we all know as the iconic XR3i. The car was initially launched to compete with VW's new Golf GTi, therefore Ford pulled out all the stops and fitted a tuned version of the 1.6L CVH engine, uprated suspension, and cosmetic alterations.
This XR3i is coming to market from an incredible ~31 years of ownership, just 1 former keeper, and has only covered ~55,000 miles since 1988. It comes with a good amount of history that details upkeep, ownership usage, and the MOT upkeep of this sporting hatchback. Presented in an attractive "Rosso Red" over grey colourway, it's a lovely original and genuine example. Always kept in the vendors dry garage, and under soft cover when not in use, the condition is quite something.
This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Robert and Jackie the owners, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hello, the car has not been in an accident. The only paint job we did was on the bonnet. Best wishes
R and J
Can ask, was the repair on the back quarter panel, due to rust or accident
** RESERVE MET ** this car is now on sale and will be sold to the highest bidder this evening. Good luck, Adam TC
Hi, the car has the rear original number plate on it. But the front has been renewed at some point. could you explain why this is?
ie accident damage?
And the car had an oil leak for a number of years according to past mots, does the car still have an oil leak?
kind regards Stuart.
The garage floor under the car is spotless clean and there is no oil leaking that we can see.
Can’t recall the number plate. Could have been a crack. Will try and remember. There have been no accidents. Best wishes
R and J
Hello Stuart, we didn’t replace the number plate. That’s how it was when we bought it.
Many thanks

Hi R & J, is the service book stamped up after the 26000 mile input, or is it just on paper work? also has the car had any paint
work done to it? kind regards Stuart.
Hello Stuart, all work is documented, services, mot, advisory etc. The first garage closed in 2012 when the owner retired. The car has not been used much since then as the mot show. The bonnet was resprayed professionally around 1995 due to a stone chip on the motorway. Thanks and sorry for the late reply R and J
Hi – Is the sunrooof electric or manual & in good working order ?
Hello, the sunroof is a clockwise anticlockwise mechanism. It opens perfectly to tilt it, but won’t turn the other way. It always did in the past. I don’t want to force it.
Many thanks
R and J
Hi I see there is some service history up to 26000 miles is there any after that?
Many thanks Gary.
Hello Gary, yes all work, services etc. is documented since we bought it. There were quite a lot of photos taken by trade classics, sorry for the confusion. It was looked after by 2 local garages as the first garage owner retired.
Best wishes R and J.
Hi rob&jackie
Thanks for getting back to me I was wondering when the timing belt was changed (year&milage)
And also does the sunroof open?
Many thanks Gary.
Hello, the timing belt was replaced on 31st October 2012, at 55,399 miles.
The sunroof is manuel. You turn it clockwise and anticlockwise to tilt or open fully. It opens perfectly to tilt it at an angle, but won’t turn the other way to open fully. I don’t know why as it was fine in the past. I don’t want to force it.
Hi, that looks a very honest car, have the auction site given you an estimated value, thanks ?
Hey Dave, yes we have as we do with all cars. Please click on the ‘learn more’ link by the Submit Your Bid to read out our reserve policy. Of course we can’t say the reserve price but I can tell you it’s low and we expect this car to sell at auction. Cheers Adam
Hello Dave. Thanks for your comments. It is really honest, original and looked after. The xr3 was kept in a dry garage when not being driven and turned over regularly as we used it less and less. The nice people at Trade classics gave us a valuation and suggested a reserve, as it’s sadly time to see it go. If there’s anything else you need to know, get in touch. Best wishes. R & J
Thanks for the reply ??
