Recent Buyer Review – Simon Welsh on 1st May “Found my ideal 90’s sports car on Trade Classics. Living in Bournemouth and the car being in the Midlands I relied heavily on the advert, photos and videos.
On picking the car up I wasn’t disappointed. Everything was as it had been described. So I got straight into it and drove home. What a drive put a smile on my face.
Thanks very much Trade Classics and I’m now looking out for my next classic to add to the collection.”.

Peter has owned the car since 1995 and has a wealth of history that describes the maintenance of the car. After owning a yellow Celica beforehand he saw the opportunity to trade it in with a reputable sports car dealer after earning more money as a pilot driving long haul flights. He used the car as a primary vehicle before using it more sparingly recently.
He is clearly a passionate rally enthusiast after owning the limited edition car for such a long time and is looking for a new owner who shares the same passion as himself. Please review all photos and videos that Peter has sent us to judge the full condition of the car for yourself.
The car really looks stunning in bright red paintwork with sportier features than the common GT4. Contrasting with its rally-style wheels, this looks to be a highly desirable car with rally racing in its DNA.
Wheels & Tyres
The Dymag performance wheels look to be in a condition that matches the car’s mileage, and the car comes with the original wheels as part of the deal too. The tread of the tyres should be reviewed by the new owner.
Bodywork
With improved, lighter bumpers applied to this homologation special, the bodywork maintains a good condition without the presence of any bumps or dents.
Paint
The bright red colour of the car looks stunning, however, the car has some scratched areas most notably below the windscreen and beside the nearside door panel.
Glass and Trim
Both remain in very good condition.
The ’90s essence of the car has been maintained in very good condition and provides a simplicity that you do not get with modern cars of today. Please review all the photos and our ‘Interior Review’ video.
Seats and Carpets
The fabric of the seats looks to be in very good condition with all stitching still intact. The carpets will need a quick clean for them to look as good as new.
Dashboard
The dials look to be in good condition whilst the material and all buttons around the driver’s seat clean and ready to be used.
Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
Both are in a fair condition of the car’s mileage that shows the car to have been enjoyed over the years.
The 2.0L turbocharged straight-four engine won not only many victories on the rallying stage, but also the hearts and minds of every passionate enthusiast. Please review all the photos that show the condition of the engine and the underside mechanical structure of the car.
Engine and Gearbox
The engine was capable of achieving over 200hp whilst the gearbox has a synchromesh applied to the second and third gear.
Suspension and Brakes
Peter assures that the brakes and suspension are in good condition and function well on the roads.
Electrics and Other
Peter maintains the electrics work as expected on the vehicle.
As mentioned, Peter has owned the vehicle since 1995 and has kept a wealth of history in regards to the maintenance of the vehicle. This Celica GT4 Turbo Carlos Sainz is no. 2825 of 5,000 (3,000 for the UK market). The cam belts and oil pump were changed during February 2016.

This is a limited edition car where numbers registered on the road in the UK keep on falling. Having the opportunity to own one and care for such an example will hold dear in the minds of people who want to keep the heritage of the Toyota / Carlos Sainz era alive.
We are very excited to be offering this car on the market to someone who will care for it after Peter’s long ownership that spans over two decades.

Hi Peter, there is an invoice for the removal of the front bumper and straightening of the front panel and replacement of the slam panel. Could you elaborate on this repair work please. Also the invoice for rear quarter panel work. Cheers Antony
The front bumper was backed into at low speed by a drunken friend of my wife’s. It was low speed as she was only parked about 5ft in front of me. Unfortunately some of the parts were brought from Japan (main S. London dealers) and turned out expensive for her husband, insurance job.
Sorry not trying to be difficult but I am not sure what the rear quarter panel refers to, can you give me the date of the invoice and maybe if I look at it I will be reminded,
Thanks Peter, The rear quarter panel invoice is dated 7/12/2007, Days Garage.
Thanks Antony
I have looked at the invoice and do not recall this matter. However as it includes paint etc and a relatively low labour charge with no parts billed I presume it was to repair a minor surface problem. If it had been noteworthy I would have remembered and in all likelyhood rather more expensive. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.
Hi Peter, Thanks for the response, last couple of questions, dose the boot lid stay up when opened? ie struts ok as these are a fortune from Toyota. Are all electrics working, particularly the sunroof and rear washer/wiper. Cheers Antony
Boot struts are brand new, about 1 – 2 years old, so yes the boot stays up and is easy to open. ALL electrical items work, including sunroof except cigarette lighter I think, not sure as I don’t smoke. If that is a make or brake let me know and I will check.
Thanks Peter, that’s great.
He can see the car at his convenience subject to social distancing. Sorry if this makes it more difficult particularly as we are short of time.
Id need to see car before id bid on anything
Sure thing, I’ll send you a direct message on how we organise viewings. It will be dependent on Peters time too of course. Best, Kulraj
Would you take 10k?
Hi Lee, this car is live on auction now, so you’ll need to bid and see! 🙂 Best, Kulraj
Hi. Reading over the mot history online it seems like the car has repeatedly had advisory’s for corrosion underneath. Has this ever been attended to ? I also noticed that one rear suspension arm seems to be covered in oil. Is the rear differential leaking ? Thanks
No the rear suspension is not leaking to my knowledge and was not advised as such when I had the car recently serviced.
Re the corrosion every time that it has been noted I have had corrective work done. Please check the garage bills which will show this. Rgds
There does seem to be a fair amount of corrosion on the underside of the car, What are the sills and arches like on the car and has there ever been any repairs carried out to same.?
Have had a word with the garage who service my car and have been advised that sills are good, and outer wheel arches OK, inner wheel arches have been repaired.
