Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

This lovely DB9 Volante is a good, clean car with an excellent service history, that has been used as intended. With a little love, it could easily be brought up to pristine condition.

The owner Philip is currently having the car prepared for sale so you will be able to drive away in style and comfort. When it designed the convertible, Aston Martin made some tweaks to the DB9 Coupe to improve safety, but also to increase comfort through the use of softer springs. The convertible is an ideal cruiser, and with the roof down it’s even easier to hear the engine sing.

Meet the owner

Aston Martin represents the pinnacle of British sports cars, and that's why I love them so much.

Philip adores Aston Martins and has owned this one for a year. Aston ownership runs in the blood, with his grandfather having owned a DB2 that was passed down to his mother.

He states in our 'Meet the Owner' video that he has stored the car at a local garage and had it serviced at a performance specialist so that it is ready for its new owner to enjoy immediately. The car has service history with both Aston Martin and some specialists and comes with an indoor car cover.

Philip has used the car for special occasions with family and friends, as well as to meet fellow enthusiasts through the Aston Martin Owner's Club. He is looking to sell to reduce the number of cars he owns and would be delighted if his Aston could go to a new home where it will be used more often.

Exterior

A folding soft-top roof that adds to the versatility but detracts nothing from the looks.

Wheels and Tyres

The multi-spoke diamond-cut Aston Martin alloys look solid and are a key highlight of the exterior.

The tyres still have some tread, but the next owner would ideally budget for their replacement in the next year or two.

Bodywork

The exterior of the car has aged well, with a nod to Aston’s illustrious history doing nothing to stop it looking like a brand-new design, even today. It really is a classic shape.

These aluminium bodied cars can suffer from corrosion along with the panel corners: the only place we observed any corrosion on Philip’s car was on the driver's side door handle, another common area on the DB9.

Paint

The overall condition of the car is good, but there are some marks that stop it looking excellent.

There are some parking/speed bump scratches on the front bumper, with some lacquer having lifted in the same area. Please take a look at the video review to see the full detail.

Glass and Trim

Both in excellent condition across the car.

Interior

The highly refined interior is so comfortable and of the highest quality. Once in you will never want to leave the driver's seat.

Seats and Carpets

The seats have wear and tear commensurate with the car's age and mileage and would benefit from a high-quality refresh.

Philip has left this exposed so the new owner can choose their preferred vendor to carry out the repair. Beware that many sellers will cover this sort of issue up using the cheapest possible repair, and it won’t last a year.

They have a full electric adjustment that works as it should.

Dashboard

Like most of the car, the dashboard is made using high-quality, beautiful materials.

Most DB9s benefit from highly customisable interiors and all of the options are a delight to examine, feel and touch.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Steering wheel controls allow easy operation of the usual audio functions. Like most DB9 Volantes, the car comes with cruise control.

The unusual location of the gear selection buttons on the centre console is a smart idea and frees up space in the centre divide, too. The roof is lowered automatically by way of a single button.

Mechanics

Although the ride is sporty and firm, the DB9 can deliver extremely high levels of comfort.

Engine and Gearbox

Although the 6.0L V12 engine is highly vocal, when erected the soft-top roof disguises the sound well. With the roof down, however, it is a different story, and a story you will certainly enjoy.

The DB9 delivers effortless performance, with any gear or speed providing purposeful acceleration. The gearbox further adds to the grand tourer experience, as the six-speed automatic gearbox down changes quickly to allow the engine to really shove you forwards.

Suspension and Brakes

This Aston Martin provides safety, comfort and performance in a perfect blend of engineering.

As you can see in the photos and videos the condition of the brakes and suspension are excellent.

The Drive

Many people who have driven these cars instantly fall in love with them, and it’s easy to see why.

The performance and pleasure of this car is enhanced by being able to see open sky and feel the wind whip past you as you effortlessly progress across continents. The automatic gearbox provides a smooth ride, and you always have the option to use the paddle-shifts behind the wheel if you’re looking for more thrills.

After having the car serviced, Philip advised us that the mechanic said due to the low use of the car there was a very slight misfire that might rectify itself with some spirited use.

Electrics and Other

The 700W sound system in this car is truly astonishing: the clarity, even with compressed audio files, can make you forget you’re in a car at all.

Philip has advised us that you need to operate the petrol flap manually, and also that there is a warning that comes up about servicing the alarm system.

History and Paperwork

The car has been serviced in May 2020, providing extra assurance for the new owner of the DB9 volante.

The car has a full service history, as can be seen in the gallery with the stamped booklet.

Hi Mark, we haven’t had a chance to run a HPi check to confirm the details requested at this stage. This will be done soon. In terms of price, we think this will be in the £30,000s at auction. Best, Kulraj
