Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Manufactured on the 18th March 1960, this is an early model with original early features including overdrive. This is the 1,008th Jaguar MKII of the production line.

The Jaguar MKII is a highly desirable car, even more so when there is a 3.4L engine sitting in the bay.

This particular example is set in Sherwood Green, that will make heads turn on your travels through the country. Look at the photos and videos of one of the most iconic Jaguars out there.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Alan the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Alan, who works for a Jaguar Specialist, has owned his Jaguar MKII for 3 years.

He advised the previous owner on how to sell the car but loved it so much he decided to buy it himself.

As he is downsizing he needs to sell one of his two Jaguars. There is nothing Alan does not know about these British classics. He has had a lot of work done on the car, such as overhauling the brake system and fitting a master cylinder, which failed when he bought the car. He has loved this car and will be sad to see it go after putting many miles on it.

Exterior

It's hard to beat the iconic form of this car: it is one of the best classics of all time.

Wheels and Tyres

The steel-plated wheels look stunning and are in excellent condition.

Many people prefer the wired wheels, but we in the office adore the unique, clean lines of these chrome-plated covers.

Bodywork

Alan states he has had the boot panel replaced as it had some rust on it. The roof type is very rare on the Jaguar MKII.

The rest of the car looks good with no dents or damage on the bodywork. There is some minor rust underneath the door panels although, the remainder of the car looks to have been treated with anti-rust paint where most vulnerable.
.

Paint

Set in Sherwood Green, there is a calmness and class about the paint.

This also looks beautiful with the complementary interior set in tan: who can avoid falling in love with this colour scheme?

Glass and Trim

Both in excellent condition across the car.

Interior

The slight patina that accompanies some of the original features of the car do nothing to detract from the class and beauty of the cabin.

Seats and Carpets

All look to be original and in really good condition considering the car’s age and mileage.

Please view all the photos and videos for yourself.

Dashboard

Slight patina/wear to the dashboard with all other features like buttons appearing in good condition.

The rev counter needs to be looked at by the new owner as Alan mentions in the "On The Road" video.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both look to be original and in excellent condition, in line with the cars mileage.

The manual gearstick is mechanically sound, and this car comes with the overdrive option from the factory.

Mechanics

The middle child of the MKII family, the 3.4L engine looks wonderfully clean and starts up well. Please watch the video to see the Jaguar start from cold. Alan has also sent us a great video of him driving.

Engine and Gearbox

Alan works at a Jaguar specialist, and this skill and care can be seen throughout the car. In particular, the car’s engine bay has been kept in excellent condition. The manual gearbox works as expected.

Suspension and Brakes

As mentioned earlier, the brakes and suspension have been repaired and replaced where needed.

Please see the paperwork section to view all the related invoices.

The Drive

Although we were not able to go out and film our usual ‘On the Road’ video, Alan has told us he has racked up a fair few miles in the Jaguar and states that it is a wonder to drive. He's taken a video himself that you can view above.

Electrics and Other

Alan assures us that all electronic and mechanical parts of the car work as they should do - even the period radio!

History and Paperwork

This MKII was believed to have been off the road for around 20 years. Since 1997, it has been restored and is now back to its former glory.

It wasn’t all happy days when Alan first bought the car...the brakes failed when driving away upon purchase! Since then though, Alan has done wonders with the car and has taken it to the odd show. It was even featured in the Jaguar Enthusiast Magazine, in an article that can be seen at the start of the paperwork file.

The car’s body restoration - like the mechanics - still looks great after all this time, and there are a few photos in the history files that show the condition before and after. Also, be sure to look at the huge number of invoices that come in the car.

The original number plate is still on the car "SRC 400", however, it is NOT included in the sale. The registration has some sentimental value to Alan, but he also has said it can be negotiated after the sale if the buyer wishes to keep it with the car.

Dear Alan, Is the sunroof waterproof and operational? Could I ask what you would want for car and plate prior to auction start? Im a genuine Jaguar enthusiast and would cherish the car. I like originality and have owned a similar car 4 years ago but sold due to a house move.I would ideally like to visit to view soon? Christopher Holford ,Bewdley,Worcestershire

Hi Christopher, sun roof is fully operational and leak free. The number plate was valued to return me £4000 when I purchased the car. Although it happens to be my wife’s initials I would like to see the car retain it’s original number. If the car sold for close to the upper estimate I would be willing to include the number. I woild be more than happy for you to come and view the car. Many thanks, Alan.
