Introduction

Adam Purrier
CEO

This Grand Tourer is, like all Ferraris, simply gorgeous.

This particular car has covered only 29,000 miles and looks factory fresh in Tour De France Blue, complemented by a gorgeous Tan leather interior. It has a full-service history and has was last serviced as recently as June 2020, meaning it's ready to do what it does best: drive!

This Grand Tourer 2+2 is presented in very good condition and is an excellent choice for those trips abroad on holiday, and is even a usable and reliable daily driver. This was Ferrari’s first front-engined V12 after a long absence for the format, and its return was brilliantly executed.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Adam after meeting Gordon the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Gordon has owned his Ferrari for seven years and has enjoyed taking it on long trips around the UK, as well as taking a trip to the Alps and back in particularly testing weather - it performed flawlessly.

He mentions in the ‘Meet the Owner’ video the feel-good factor the car has given him over the years and says it runs "like a sewing machine", referring to its smooth reliability. He jokes about how the car even has enough room for his luggage!

Gordon will be sad to see his 456 go. However, it's time for him to hand it on to someone else and for him to find his next source of joy. He is thinking about getting an XK140 – very nice Gordon. He last had the car serviced on 03.06.2020, meaning this gorgeous Ferrari is completely ready to go!

Exterior

The car really does look amazing. The 456M presents much more subtly than many other Ferraris, but as a result, is timeless. The design is still fresh today and is easily recognisable as a Ferrari, even were you to remove the badges.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with original condition five-spoke factory wheels.

The matching Bridgestone Expedia S.01 tyres hold a very good tread with profiles of 285/40/17 and 255/40/17, allowing the front-engine, rear-wheel drive set up to perform at its best.

Bodywork

The 456M GTA came with improved aerodynamics over previous generations.

The body of the car is in excellent condition with no dents to be found. There are some stone chips on the front bumper commensurate with the loving use and mileage, and maintains its originality. Please review all the images / videos of the car to assess the condition for yourself.

Paint

The Tour de France paint is consistent across the car.

We at Trade Classics do like a Ferrari in blue - something different from the usual red or yellow - and with the complimentary tan interior – bellissimo!

Glass and Trim

Both are in excellent condition across the car.

Interior

The interior is absolutely stunning and looks completely original with minimal wear. The car is set in beautiful tan leather that covers the majority of the interior.

Seats and Carpets

The electric seats look to be in excellent condition.

They are made in fine leather that will stand the test of time. The carpets are in the complimentary colour that makes the whole interior seamless.

Dashboard

The dashboard leather still looks to be in good condition after 20 years with some slight signs of it lifting (usual on a Ferrari of this age), as can be seen in the interior video and photos. As testament to its originality, some of the interior soft-touch plastics have gone sticky, like they do in all Ferraris and Maseratis of this era. This isn't a complex repair, and many specialists can now address this.

Fewer gauges were added to the 'M' model, the second production run of the 456.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The same can be said for the steering wheels but no signs of any wear and tear. The automatic gear stick is in excellent condition.

Mechanics

This particular 456M is the GTA model with only 650 having been produced. Please watch the ‘On the Road’ video as you can see Gordon and Adam having a great time on the road in this dreamy V12.

Engine and Gearbox

The car started first time from cold in our usual ‘Cold ‘Start’ section of the video.

Once we got on the road with Gordon we really started to get a sense of what this car can do. Fitted with a front-mounted 5.5L V12 that puts down over 400hp through its 4-speed automatic transmission.

Suspension and Brakes

This is a GT car that is extremely comfortable on all tarmac roads at all speeds, whether you are cruising or pulling away sharply.

We heard no bumps or rattles coming from the adjustable suspension and the brakes worked just as expected.

The Drive

The car really drives well. Gordon took us around his local area in Scotland and the drive was extremely pleasurable. It is one of the most comfortable GT cars of its time and has aged brilliantly, looking sharp and performing reliably, quickly, and comfortably.

Electrics and Other

We tested the electric seats on our visit as well as the other electronics on the car.

Nothing is broken and Gordon assures us that everything functions as expected on the vehicle.

History and Paperwork

This car is 1 of 650 made making it extremely rare and desirable. Gordon has used Ferrari specialists near Edinburgh for all servicing and repairs, including Verdi Ferrari and Maranello.

The car comes with an assuring amount of history that dates back to its year of production.

Please see the images below to review all the paperwork that comes with the car, as well as original handbooks and an official Ferrari toolkit. This example can be considered low-mileage as it has done only 29,000 miles, and comes with a complete and extensive service history.

As mentioned, Gordon has only just had the car serviced, on 03.06.2020, the invoice for which can be seen at the start of the paperwork gallery.

Hello Gordon , please could I ask the following questions re your 456…
A. There seems to be some standard lifting of the dash ( airbag) and around the heater switches. The steering wheel looks affected also which is much less common and the headlining looks to have come away … is that the case?
When did you last have the car serviced and by whom .
Does it have a good Ferrari service history ?
Any suspension issues?
Or gearbox .
Please could you be honest and tell me the bad points of the car … I would appreciate that .
Kind regards wayne Morton

Hi just adding the response from Gordon;

Hi Wayne,
As you say, there is some lifting of the leather at the airbag cover and the switches and on the steering wheel. The headling had dropped a little at the time the photos were taken but this has been professionally corrected since then. The trimmer who re-fixed the headling said, when I collected the car, that he could fairly easily correct the lifting issues and I’d be happy to have this done if was necessary to effect a sale.
The car was last serviced on 03/0/2020 at Ferrari specialists Stewart Roden Motors near Edinburgh, who have looked after it and annually serviced it since 2015.
There is a continuous service history prior to that with Monza Automotive at Bruntingthorp, Stratstone, Verdi and HR Owen. All receipts in the file.
It is HPI clear, has all previous MOT certificates, Ferrari Certificate of Conformity, all previous tax discs And a complete set of books and tool kit – and a red Italian made Ferrari fully fitted cover.
There are no suspension or gearbox issues (no leakage from the adjustable shock absorbers) and the gearbox was serviced by Midland Automatic Transmissions on 03/04/2014 at 28,828 miles.
As for bad points, well, one of the passenger side seat servo motors which adjusts the seat back rake has recently failed but otherwise I think the car is as good as it looks
We have greatly enjoyed this car and will be sorry to see it go but the garage is getting too full and I have now scratched my Ferrari itch!
If you’d like any further information or have any more queries just let me know.
