Introduction
Darren Rungasamy
That distinctive howl from the flat-six behind you never fails to remind you that you're in a 911.
Rewriting the 911 playbook would never be easy, and the inauspicious verdicts on its styling didn’t bode well when it was first released in 1997. However, it has aged rather like a fine wine and time has balanced the opinions, resulting in the 996 series proving to be a great introduction to the world of the 911.
Putting aside the purists' opinions, there was no way for Porsche to update the 911 except to use water-cooling. What it did was to open the brand to a new market, without the loss of the car's charismatic driving style and exceptional quality engineering. It helped Porsche survive the 1990s, and the company emerged as a leaner and more progressive company with a healthy vision for the future.
Finished in a stunning Metallic Ocean Blue colourway, this well-maintained 1998 Carrera Convertible comes with a factory hardtop and has retained much of its original specification. It has been subject to a lot of work over the last ~7 years, which includes regular servicing, RMS repair, steering, suspension and cosmetics. It comes with an MOT valid until November 2023, two keys and its original owner's wallet and booklets.
