Introduction
Dom Ginn
MG heritage, V8 power and muscular looks in a quintessentially British package.
Developed by Rover Group's Special Products Team, the MG RV8 was described by Rover's marketing department as "what the MGB would have become". The car was launched on the 30th anniversary of what has become Britain's most popular sports car.
This legacy, combined with the fact that only 1,982 RV8s were built, ensured its classic status from day one. However, the RV8 offers much more than just its heritage. The renowned 3.9L Rover V8 engine provides the car with a factory-specified top speed of 136 MPH and a 0-60 time of just under 7 seconds.
Based on the remanufactured shell of the MGB, 95% of the body panels were replaced to give the car its distinctive muscular appearance. The interior features a stunning combination of traditional wood and ivory leather.
This charming RV8 was re-imported from Japan in 2000, having originally been sold there in December 1994. It is finished in the striking "Woodcote Green" colour and has been with its current owner since 2009. The paperwork shows that the car has been well maintained and includes some desirable upgrades including the fitting of a Clive Wheatley roll bar.
Now after 14 years of ownership and with a full MOT, this classic car is up for auction - it not only looks great but is also ready to hit the road. The latest V5 says the car was acquired on 26.04.2023, this is due to changing the name on the V5 back to Christopher from another family member.

Hi, can I ask, does the MG have P.A.S.? Either original or retro fitted? Kind regards Geoff.
Christopher, could you please comment on what paint work has been carried out during your ownership? There is a listing up for this car on another site that describes a respray in August 2023 but no mention of that here that I could find. Thanks
Hello, Yes the car was touched-up professionally by a local car body paint-shop in August 2023. It wasn’t a total respray. There are nine different colour paints in the mix of Woodcote Green. This car has never been a ‘Garage Queen’ in my ownership, which is probably why it works. I have used it all year round except for this winter as I SORNed it for the first time in October ’23. In previous winters I avoided driving on salted roads and always hosed it off after use.
I am interested in bidding on your mg could tell me
a.does it start on the button
b.when does the mot run out and was there any advisories on it
c I notice the spare had cracks in are the other tyres the same
d.is there any tappet noise when cold
e.does it burn any oil
f.is the oil pressure ok
regards
m Whibley
Hello, a). It starts on the key. Dusn’t have a button. The spare wheel I assume has its original tyre from the factory. As a ‘get you home tyre it is fine. I have renewed all four tyres twice during my ownership. The present ones are 5 years old with good tread. Same size as a Mk 4 VW Golf, which is handy. b). It passed MoT last October 2023. I SORNed it for the first time end October. It has been moved in and out of the garage every week under its own power so I can access my Triumph T150V mobike. c). All 4 tyres are in good condition with plenty of tread. d). I could tell you there is no tappet noise. However, these engines have hydraulic tappets or cam followers. All 16 are noisy for a second or two upon starting and all suddenly quieten down once the oil pressure has pumped them up. This RV8 runs with very little engine noise. I have another V8, an MGBGT with a recently rebuilt 3.5ltr. engine and just run-in. This engine is no quieter than the RV8. The secret with these engines is to change the oil every 2 to 3,000 miles. e.) It doesn’t burn oil, and the exhaust is clean. f.) There is no oil pressure gauge on this car unlike the BGTV8. If oil pressure drops the ignition light comes on. I have only ever seen this light come on before starting the engine.
Who ever buys this car will get a good deal.
sorry I’ve just found them
have you any pictures of the engine bay
Christopher, I think your RV8 was advertised here previously. Did it not sell or the reserve not get met or any other circumstances leading to it being advertised again please? Also, can you confirm that it has not been damaged in the past.
Thank you.
Paul
Hello, Yes it was advertised in October ’23 but did not reach reserve. After all the love and care, Spax shocks, Roll bar, drivers seat lowered, etc. etc. I wasn’t letting it go to a Trader. If I can’t get a fair price I shall keep it.
If I thought it had ever been in an accident I would not have part-exchanged it for an excellent MGBGTV8 in 2009.
