Introduction

Glyn Parry
Automotive Photographer and Videographer

With its near-perfect road-holding, the Cayman set the standards for mid-engine sports cars.

A natural progression in the gradual expansion of the Porsche brand, the 987 series Cayman provided the world with a real-world Porsche, with all of the benefits of Porsches technological know-how, status and exemplary build quality. More than a Boxster with a roof or cut-price 911, the Cayman's talents lay within a compact and brisk but ever-so-drivable mid-engined coupe. In the 291 bhp flat-six 3.4-litre form, it proved to be something of a threat to lower-end 911s, particularly when it came to driving dynamics and performance.

First seen in 2005, the S version followed a year later and was almost unique in the market as a mid-engine coupe. As the quickest of the Caymans and Boxsters of the era, it also offered usability, style and quality. This is a Porsche in every sense of the word.

This very cleanly presented and highly kitted out Arctic Silver 2007 Cayman S with a black leather interior that has done ~59,579 miles. It has only had three former keepers, comes with an excellent service history, 2 keys and an MOT to 13.02.2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Caroline the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I first drove a Porsche 944 when I was 17 and that memory has stuck with me.

Ever since driving my father’s friend's 944, I wanted to own a Porsche, even if only for a few months. Seven years ago that dream came true and we purchased this Cayman. A few months of ownership turned into 7.5 years!

I love the car, it’s very easy to drive, looks stylish and nothing beats cruising through the countryside on a sunny day.

Sadly I’m only selling it as we are downsizing and our house that only has street parking.

Exterior

After being cherished throughout its life, this example has really withstood the test of time.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19” OEM Sport Design alloys are in very good condition, with the odd minor mark in places.

They are complemented by a full set of Pirelli P-Zero tyres, the front items are from 2021, and the rears are dated less than 5 years ago. All have plenty of even tread.

Bodywork

The exterior is free of any visual issues, the panel fit is flush and with even gaps. All doors open and close with ease with operational auto-window lifts. There were no discernable observations of panel damage and the bumpers are well-mounted.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The Metallic Arctic Silver paint has an excellent coverage, with a smooth lustre and no hazing. There are a handful of marks noted on the bonnet, and a small scuff on the offside front bumper corner, but otherwise, the car presents very smartly.

Both lower rear wing film stone protectors show mild signs of age.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and seals are all in good shape. The Xenon headlamps and rear lenses are free from damage.

All the trim and fittings are neatly presented with no significant wear.

Interior

Rock-solid build quality and materials means that this Cayman still looks inviting inside.

Seats and Carpets

The leather sports seats are free of significant issues with nothing more than light marks and minor creasing on the driver's seat bolster.

The carpets and mats are all in good shape, with no suggestions of heavy use observed in both luggage storage areas.

Dashboard

The interior is cleanly presented and the dashboard is free of any significant marks. The switchgear is in good shape and were tested and proven to work. The centre console has minor signs of age, with a little blistering noted by the passenger footwell and light marks elsewhere, but overall the plastics and trim have lasted well.

The door cards are in good shape, with the headlining in a tidy state with a few minor marks.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gear lever are well above the expectations of a car of this age and are aligned to the overall postive impression of the cabin.

Mechanics

The Cayman teaches the novice and rewards the experienced driver.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start video was straightforward with no issues in terms of the car's engine health. The warning lights remained off during the process, with nothing more than the expected condensation from the exhausts. The car appeared to be leak-free on the day, as the engine idled smoothly without any hiccups on tick-over.

The gearbox was demonstrated to run up through the gears with no problems, smooth throws up to sixth and no reports of clutch problems.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension proved to be compliant during the test drive, with no unwanted noises heard at any point.

The brakes were effective, with a good feel and no pulling or grinding observed.

The Drive

The Cayman is something of a confident daily driver, with plenty of reminders of its sporting prowess - yet it is remarkably easy to drive. The car was opened up to demonstrate a fraction of the potency of the flat-six 3.4-litre engine, which sounded on song. The acceleration was seamless with no reported issues with engine temperature or oil pressure.

The steering wheel remained composed throughout the test drive, with no unwanted vibration or pulling. The mildly unbalanced road did not cause any issues with the feel of the drive.

Electrics and Other

Completely standard, the car was loaded up with over £8,000 worth of optional extras when new, including the PCM 2 Porsche Communication Management, Park Assistant, Xenon headlights, a Bose sound system and it is also equipped with the desirable Sport ShortShift.

Caroline has had a new battery fitted on 13.11.24, which comes with a 2 year warranty as standard.

History and Paperwork

Porsches reputation for longevity and precise engineering has kept the bills to a minimum.

First registered at Porsche Newcastle in April 2007, it has seen a regular schedule of servicing. Since Caroline took the car on in 2017, she has carried out services with its MOT, on top of a set of new front discs in 2020, tyres in 2021 and a full water pipe kit in 2022.

During her ownership, Caroline has ensured that the car has been taken to Porsche Specialist Martin Brown to attend to any of the cars needs. It has an MOT to February 2025, was last serviced ~2,000 miles ago and comes with its full owner's wallet with booklets and 2 keys.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Caroline,
Regarding the Service History in particular the last few items, don’t really follow what’s gone on there, I would be grateful if you could explain.
It seems 10/11/21 an MOT and 12 months late a service and pipes with the same mileage.
And then on the same day another MOT and Major Service with near 300 miles more, it doesn’t make sense. Many thanks in advance, Lou.

Thanks for reply.
Are we saying that the
10-11-2022 Service + Water pipe kit 57,201 should read 2021, is that what your invoice states?
Also, the MOT (10-11-22) and the Major Service (25-11-22) have the same mileages, any idea?

Thanks in advance
