Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

Classic lines and spirited drive, this Plus 4 offers a perfect blend of heritage and open-air motoring.

There’s no other car company in the world quite like Morgan. Since 1910, this Worcestershire-based firm has forged its own path, often defying conventional business practices in the automotive industry, and in doing so, has cultivated a devoted following.

The Morgan Plus 4 is a more powerful and larger model than the earlier 4/4 model. These rear-wheel-drive cars kept much of the classic styling of their predecessors but incorporated numerous modern enhancements. It ran in production from 1950 to 1969 and was revived in 1985 until 2000 until the plus 8 came along. Morgan slowly improved the Plus 4 over the years, one of the bigger changes being the introduction of Rover's punchy ~140BHP T16 2.0L engine along with the firm's five-speed gearbox in 1992.

This lovely little car brings a lot of fun back to motoring, away from many of the modern conventions in the market today. Punchy, quick, and small in stature, the Plus 4 is a reminder of the joys of taking an open top car along an empty country road and listening the engine sounds and the roads pass underneath.

Well suited to both enthusiasts and collectors alike, this Morgan has carried low mileage and low UK ownership. Works have been carried out by the current owner including, restoration to the front wings, new adjustable shocks, LED headlights and LED brake and tail lights and the inclusion of a 12V socket in the cabin. Other works over its life have been, new clutch slave cylinder, new rear offside brake piston, re-sealed underside with “Lanoguard” and a stainless steel Librands exhaust system fitted by the previous owner.

The car comes to market after ~4 years with our vendor and has a current MOT valid until 19.05.2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Martin the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A car that brings a smile to my face every time I'm out in it and turns plenty of heads at the pub!

Martin, the current owner, was in the market for a sporty, 2 seater, when he came across the Morgan in a car magazine, Martin tells us, "I was looking over several cars with a set budget in mind. The Morgan was on the list, as I had been to the Morgan factory previously for a tour and hired one of these models for the weekend from the factory. I went to see the car and was taken with the overall mechanics and its lovely looks".

Martin told us, "The car is so fun to drive with the top down and a sunny day, the handling is crisp, the steering positive and the gear box is smooth with the engine revving freely. Once the exhaust sings it song, the drive is incredible! I have had several weekends with my wife out in the car, and it's fun to see other drivers looking and commenting. I have had no problems with Morgan and only maintenance and servicing has been required. Driving on B and some A roads is such an experience in the summer months and sometimes, the occasional winters day when crisp and dry".

Although the sale comes a little reluctantly, Martin says, "We now have 4 grandchildren and I can no longer justify the Morgan as it is not practical with only 2 seats. Unfortunately it gets little use due to child care and other support for family. I would like to sell Morgan on to someone who will use it and have as much fun as I have had".

Martin will be happy to answer any questions on the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Timelessly blending vintage charm and elegance with its long bonnet and wire wheels, the Morgan captures the essence of British automotive artistry.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 15" multi-spoke wire wheels finished in silver, these appear in a great condition with minimal scuffs or corrosion noted. With no signs of any major concerns during our visit, these appear to be well cared for.

A spare wheel with a cover is fitted to the rear of the car, Martin tells us it is in as good a condition as the other wheels.

The Morgan is fitted with Goodyear Eagle NCT 5 tyres, the tyre spec showed with 195/60 all round - these were dated from 2003 to the front and 2004 to the rear.

Bodywork

Looking over the Morgan on our visit, the car maintains good visual panel gaps and both doors, bonnet and the boot open and close smoothly.

There were a few signs of corrosion noted to the rear wings of the bodywork which may be worth a closer look by the future owner. Noticeable areas were on the underside of the drivers door, on the front and rear wheel arches and rear panel sections.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The smart dark blue paintwork has an even finish across all the panels, overall showing nicely. There were no signs of any major concerns with the coverage or concerning imperfections with the Morgan showing its class well.

We did note a small scratch on the passenger side and a scratch on the drivers side door. There were some signs of paint chipping off the bodywork with areas noted on the wheel arches and front panels.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass on the Plus 4 looked in great condition, in line with the age of the car; we didn't notice any cracks or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look to be well maintained.

The trim sections are all present and a Morgan Plus 4 badge is in place to the front and Morgan logo to the rear. The chrome sections showed without concern and we didn't note any signs of major pitting or issue here.

The Morgan is supplied with the soft top roof as a convertible option. We noted some age related marks on this section but nothing that was overly concerning. A great note is that the car is also complete with 2 covers - one garage storage cover and one travel cover. There are also 2 bespoke sliding window braces included in the final sale.

Interior

Charming craftsmanship meets classic elegance - a nostalgic journey back to the times of more classic motoring.

Seats and Carpets

The Morgan is fitted with a simple but supportive interior. We didn't note any concerns with rips or tears to the front seats, just a few signs of age related use. We noted some signs of wear to the door card on the drivers side where the handle appeared to be rubbing slightly.

The main carpet of the interior showed in a good condition and underneath the carpet showed no concerning issues with the flooring. We cover the cabin area of the Plus 4 in further detail in our interior review video.

Dashboard

The dashboard presented well with no visible cracking, warping, scuffs or marks when we visited the car - the dash showed ~48,722 miles on the clock.

All the numbers on the dash area appeared clear and legible and the clocks and dials presented nicely when looking over the drivers section. The switches and controls all appeared to be in great condition.

Our interior gallery section offers a closer look at the Morgan's dashboard.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A sporty three-spoke Morgan wheel is fitted with a black leather grip - it presents in a nice condition, although could benefit from a light clean up to the silver interior sections.

The black gear stick and gaiter looked good with numbers clearly legible.

Additional images of the cabin area, including the steering wheel, are available in our Interior Gallery section - visit to see more details of what the Morgan has to offer.

Mechanics

With ~140BHP under the bonnet, the Morgan is capable of 0- 60MPH in ~7.5 seconds and a top speed of 121MPH, all delivered to the rear wheels via the 5-speed manual gearbox.

Engine and Gearbox

After starting the Morgan up, the engine sounded lovely - we didn't notice any untoward noises either at start up or whilst on the road. Running the car gave us no cause for concern and the engine idled steady when stationary.

Take a look at our "On the Road" video where we cover off the engine start up, idle and rev check and take the Morgan around the local area to find out a little more about the Plus 4.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs, or other issues from the suspension when we were out in the car and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling, just a little firm out on the country roads, Martin has fitted Avo adjustable shock absorbers. The brakes felt great and were easily able to bring the Morgan to a stop.

The underside of the car showed in good condition. The current keeper has also re-sealed this section with Lanoguard in his ownership.

We cover the underside of the car in our 'Mechanical Gallery' section. Head over to our video section, where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view for yourself. We take you around the mechanical elements of the car and give you an overview of what's on offer here.

The Drive

On the country roads during our drive it felt tight and precise and cornered confidently with no knocks from the steering. As we reached slightly higher speeds we didn't catch any concerning rattles or shakes and everything performed as it should.

Our 'On the Road' video gives an overview of the car on some local roads and how it performs whilst driving.

Electrics and Other

All switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and in great condition. Martin mentioned that he's had no issues with the electrical elements of the car and confirmed everything working correctly to his knowledge. In his ownership, Martin has also had a 12V socket installed in the cabin area.

The Plus 4 is supplied with the soft top roof as a convertible option. The car also comes complete with 2 covers - one garage storage cover and one travel cover, an additional steering wheel lock and 2 bespoke sliding window braces.

Spares are also supplied with the car which include, wiper blades, spot lamp brackets, hood and tonneau fastenings and the original headlight lenses.

History and Paperwork

The Plus 4 comes to market from ~4 year ownership, covering a low ~48,722 miles over its years, all with under ~2,000 miles traveled in the last ~5 years.

Martin has carried out several elements of restorative and upgrade works during his ownership, these have included works to the front wing sections to identify areas of previous corrosion, Avo adjustable suspension shocks, LED headlights and at the same time LED tail and brake light upgrades.

During his ownership, a new clutch slave cylinder and rear offside brake piston was also replaced. Martin has also added a 12v socket in the cabin. In recent years the underside of the car has been re-sealed with “Lanoguard”.

A stainless steel Librands exhaust system was fitted by previous owner and the car has a factory fit immobiliser and two sets of keys with it. For a full review of the car's service history and works completed, please review the paperwork gallery section.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
