Introduction

Like an Italian espresso – small, stylish, and guaranteed to put a smile on your face with every drop-top drive!

The 1982 Fiat Spider 2000 was the final Fiat-produced version of the iconic 124 Spider before Pininfarina took over in 1983. Designed by Tom Tjaarda, it featured a 2.0-litre inline-four engine, available in carburetted ~102hp or fuel-injected ~108hp versions. Paired with a five-speed manual transmission, it offered a lightweight, agile driving experience.

With independent front suspension and a solid rear axle, the Spider balanced comfort and handling. The interior featured bucket seats, a wood-trimmed dash, and optional luxuries like electric windows and air conditioning. Affordable compared to rivals like the Alfa Romeo Spider, it remains a beloved classic, valued for its Italian styling and engaging drive.

This lovely example has been well maintained by Tony since his purchase in 2016. As an import from the States, it features a 2.0-litre Twin-cam engine with fuel injection for added reliability and better economy and comes with a current MOT valid until 05.08.2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Tony the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

“The Spider was perfect as it allowed us to put the dog crate on the back seat for our adventures.”

Making its way from the States in 1990, the Fiat Spider has been owned by just three keepers since it landed in the UK. Tony has enjoyed the car since 2016 after he and his wife decided they would like a small Italian sports car, but one with enough room in the back seat to hold their dog crate for when they went on tours with their dog.

Set on wanting a Fiat Spider, Tony’s search began, and he came across this lovely example, although at the time, it was a darker blue colour. Before purchasing the car, Tony decided to have it inspected and assessed. The report came back with an extremely good result for the bodywork, with just some mechanical issues that needed addressing for smooth running. Undeterred by this, Tony purchased the car and sent it to Tanc Barratt, who rectified any issues required.

The result was a usable classic, perfect for his wife and their pet dog. Unfortunately, following a back operation, Tony now struggles with getting in and out of his car and manoeuvring his beloved Fiat Spider, so he has made the tough decision to part with it. Tony will be available to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

With the Pininfarina design house at the helm, the Spider was always going to look cool.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the factory alloy wheels, these are in excellent condition with no signs of damage or corrosion to the faces. The tyres are Yokohama BluEarth-ES, fitted to each corner, and have plenty of tread remaining.

Please see the image gallery for more detailed images.

Bodywork

The bodywork on the Fiat Spider is in excellent condition thanks to a restoration in 2004 by the previous keeper and a repaint whilst owned by Tony. The panel gaps align well, and no dings or dents were spotted when looking around the car.

The tan fabric roof is in excellent condition, with no marks or damage to point out.

We've provided high-resolution images and videos detailing our observations, so please take the time to review all media files for a comprehensive view of the car’s condition.

Paint

Finished in Fiat Azzurro Metallic (474). This was applied in 2017 when Tony decided the Fiat would look completely different, repainted in Azzurro Metallic – and what a great choice it was, don’t you agree? It has also been ceramic coated, and recently, this coating has been recharged, giving it even more protection and adding to the deep lustre shine.

The condition is excellent all over, with the only mark noticed on the edge of the driver's door.

Images are taken from various angles to present the car as you would see it in person. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos to form your own opinion on the paint’s condition.

Glass and Trim

All of the windows are in good order, with no noticeable scratches. The seals also appear to be in good condition.

Sitting nicely against the Azzurro Metallic paint, the chrome work presents a bright finish, and all of the light lenses are in good order.

Interior

A proper ’80s classic with a lovely patina – perfect for open-top motoring.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in magnolia leather, the front seats are nicely worn, with a light amount of patina on the leather. The rear seat is in good condition, as are the door cards.

The carpets throughout are in good condition, with just a tiny amount of wear in places, but nothing excessive. The boot is also clean and tidy; under the false floor is a fifth spare alloy wheel.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition, with no damage across the top. The walnut fascia has a couple of light cracks in the lacquer, which also occurred around the gear lever. The instruments are said to be working correctly, and the odometer shows a reading of ~88,051 miles.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The lovely three-spoke steering wheel with a wooden rim is in excellent condition, as is the wooden gear knob, which has the ‘F’ logo, but this isn't quite central.

Please see the interior gallery for more images.

Mechanics

A fuel-injected 2.0-litre Twin-cam engine graces the engine bay and performs superbly on the road.

Engine and Gearbox

The 2.0-litre Twin-cam engine fires up without hesitation and runs smoothly, with no issues reported. Tony spent in excess of ~£2,000 when he purchased the car with Italian car specialist Tanc Barratt, who ironed out some mechanical gremlins and fitted a stainless steel exhaust.

The five-speed gearbox engages gears easily, and the Fiat pulls strongly through them, easily keeping up with modern-day traffic.

Suspension and Brakes

With discs all around on the Spider, stopping the car isn’t difficult, and the braking system is more than capable. On the road, the car handles superbly, soaking up the road easily and giving confidence in the corners.

The Drive

Driving the Fiat Spider 2000 is a classic open-top motoring experience. Its Pininfarina-designed body, compact size, and easy-to-lower soft top make it a stylish and engaging ride, perfect for scenic drives.

Powered by a 2.0-litre Twin-cam engine with Bosch fuel injection, the Spider delivers around ~108hp, and the five-speed manual transmission enhances the driving experience while retaining pretty good economy.

Electrics and Other

Aside from the fuel injection, there aren't a tremendous amount of electrics to be concerned about – it is 1982, after all. All of the switchgear present is in relatively good condition and is said to be working correctly with no issues.

History and Paperwork

A comprehensive history file dates back to the early 2000s.

The history file for the Fiat dates back to the early 2000s when the previous keeper restored the car. With a nice collection of invoices saved, these have continued under Tony’s ownership, who has spent in excess of ~£12,000 on the Italian classic, it comes with a current MOT valid until 05.08.2025.

Also included is a handy copy of the owner’s manual and a useful book by Bradley Artigue – Maintaining The Italian Roadster.

Agile and responsive, the Spider 2000 offers a light yet well-balanced ride. Its fuel-injected 2.0-litre Twin-cam engine is perfect for delivering a pure, joyful, open-top driving experience, which we know you will love just as much as Tony has.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
