Introduction

Dom Ginn
Vehicle Consigner and Photographer

Racing heritage, evocative styling and an emotional connection like few others - Alfa Romeo are legends!

Characterised by lively, free revving engines, stunning looks, communicative handling and a blistering exhaust note, Alfa’s really are a driving enthusiasts’ car. The thoroughbred engineering and beautiful styling have underpinned a hugely successful and highly sought-after series of cars from the 1920’s to the present day. Winning the inaugural Grand Prix world championship in 1925 provided the platform for Enzo Ferrari to create the Alfa Romeo “Scuderia” racing team in 1929 which went on to chalk up the most wins of any marque in the world. Styled by iconic Italian design house Bertone the 1750 GT ‘Veloce’ was introduced in 1967 and, through to 1972 enjoyed a production run of over ~44,000 units. Proving popular at the time these Alfa’s have now become highly collectable.

Coming from just shy of ~6 years ownership, this 1750 GTV is finished in "Giallo Ocra" over black trim the finished product looks stunning. This UK supplied RHD is in superb condition having benefitted from a comprehensive restoration between 2019 and 2022. Nothing has been left untouched and literally tens of thousands have been spent to achieve this beautiful result. The car has benefitted from a full body restoration, bare metal respray, full mechanical and systems rebuild and an interior re-trim much of which is supported by receipts and workshop documentation. The owner has done a remarkable job, and the car is an absolute credit to him.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Peter the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I’ve always loved restoring cars, and I’ve always loved Alfa’s - when this one came up I just couldn’t resist the challenge!

Peter is a serial car restorer as a hobby, and bought this GTV as a restoration project from a classic Alfa Romeo 105 series specialist back in 2019. He sourced a period 1750 engine and set about stripping the car for restoration. He tells us; “I have always wanted one and since I enjoy restoring and owning classics when the opportunity came up to restore this particular Alfa 1750, I took the plunge". There’s no doubt about it Peter has done an excellent job. He goes on to say. “This particular model Alfa Romeo is reasonably unique amongst the 105 series being a 1750 S1 GTV with all original features including the flying buttress seats, dashboard and rear lights”.

He is a restorer at heart and tells us it’s time for someone else to enjoy the car. “I get most pleasure from the restoration part of the classic car journey. So now having restored it and then enjoyed it over a few years on various local and extended drives". Peter will be happy to answer any questions about this stunning restored car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Classic Alfa looks and sporting character presented in a beautiful Giallo Ocra finish.

Wheels and Tyres

We could see no sign of significant damage on the 14” pressed steel, silver painted wheels. They present really well with only the odd paint imperfection as can be seen in the images. The Alfa Romeo branded chrome hubcaps look great, and are largely unmarked with just a touch of ageing.

The wheels are shod with Giugiaro Vredestein 185/70 R14 premium tyres all round which appear in great condition, and we could see no cracks, bulges or damage.

Bodywork

The car stands straight, shut lines are good all round and we could no sign of unevenness in the panels. Both doors, boot and bonnet all open and close with precision. Exactly what we would expect from a restoration of this quality.

Peter advises all the bodywork was restored professionally and, among many other things included media blasting, new floors, sills (all 3 layers each side), nearside wing, front & rear valances, inner & outer wheel arches, boot lid and door skins.

We've provided high-resolution images and videos detailing our observations, so please take the time to review all media files for a comprehensive view of the car’s condition.

Paint

The stunning "Giallo Ocra" presents beautifully. The respray in this original Alfa Romeo colour has been carried out professionally and the paint has a deep, consistent shine right across the car. There is a small chip along the offside door shut line, and some light swirl marks that have come with washing, but we could find little else to fault the finish.

Images have been taken from various angles to present the car as you would see it in person. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos to form your own view on the paint’s condition.

Glass and Trim

Front and rear screens, side windows and mirrors all look clear and unbroken. Peter advises that all the glass is original with the exception of the front windscreen and that new rubbers have been fitted apart from front and rear windscreen. Lights and lenses all present well with just a small crack showing on the nearside rear light cluster.

The chrome presents really well with some lovely ageing on the badging and trim. There is some minor pitting in places as can be seen in the images but nothing that detracts from the stunning presentation overall.

Interior

An evocative interior that is sporting, beautifully laid out and true to Alfa heritage.

Seats and Carpets

The front flying buttress seats are the original items and are in great condition having been refurbished using the original covers as part of the restoration. There are only very minor signs of wear on the driver’s side as would be expected.

The rear seats look great too and the carpets present well with no significant rips or tears that we could see, as do the door cards and remaining interior trim.

Dashboard

The dashboard has a lovely original finish, and we could find no evidence of cracks or damage, The dials are clear with no misting to the glass and the instrument bezels look good.

All switchgear, warning lights and gauges appear free from damage, and we are assured everything works as it should.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The wood rimmed, three spoke steering wheel looks in good order with the varnish intact. The alloy spokes and centre boss show their age a little but are still in good condition.

The gear lever, gaiter, centre console and surrounding switchgear all appear in good condition. Please see the interior gallery for more images.

Mechanics

The revvy, 1750cc twin-cam engine and tight ratio gearbox make this car responsive, engaging and entertaining.

Engine and Gearbox

Pushing ~122BHP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed gearbox, this lively Alfa twin cam could deliver a factory specified ~118MPH. The engine on this car has been rebuilt by Peter with work carried out to pistons, liners, bearings, valves, guides, timing chain, water pump and engine mountings. In addition, the car has benefitted from a new clutch kit, Electronic (123) ignition, new fuel tank, lines, pump and regulator.

The gearbox and carburettors too have benefited from a professional rebuild. The engine bay is clean with no signs of leaks. On the day, the car started from cold just like all these twin-cam engines tend to, settling down to idle when a bit of temperature is in the engine. Watch the video to see and hear this car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

Peter confirms this Alfa benefits from new ATE discs all round together with new calipers, brake pipes and master cylinder. All suspension was renewed with Koni shocks as part of the restoration.

The Drive

Well, exactly what we expected really. On our cold start the car fired up willingly and once warmed up settled down to a steady idle. The gauges all appeared to be indicating correctly, and emissions appeared clear. Our short test drive with Peter showed the car to be lively, engaging, agile and enormous fun with that fantastic Alfa note from the new exhaust system. Every bit a driver’s car.

Peter confirms the steering, clutch, gear change and braking were taught and responsive and everything appeared to work exactly as it should. Take a look at the video and see for yourself

Electrics and Other

Electrics on cars of this era are relatively uncomplicated, and Peter advised everything was working well. The car benefits from a period radio which we understand works perfectly.

Peter also tells us that new larger alternator, headlamp relays, and a hazard warning system have been fitted. Peter told us, to his knowledge, everything is in working order.

History and Paperwork

A genuine UK RHD example, this car comes to market from ~6 year ownership, over which time it has been through a full restoration to a very original specification, stunning.

This is an opportunity to own a fantastic, beautifully restored example of one of Alfa Romeo’s sought after coupes.

There is something very special about Alfa’s anyway and finding an example as diligently and meticulously restored as this one is likely to be a challenge. A beautiful car, impeccably restored and ready for summer – hard to resist really!

The car comes with comprehensive restoration history with receipts showing the enormous amount of work and care that has gone into getting the car to this very high standard, it also has a current MOT valid until 26.05.2025.

We’ve conducted our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5, and have also actioned a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional check by HPI that highlights whether the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or has any outstanding finance. Please note: This does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our view of the car based on information from the seller above. Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
