Introduction

Kevin Lou Jacutan
Professional Consigner

Raspy engine and quick steering, not only does this soft-top handle well but also looks and sounds great - it's the ideal Italian roadster for summertime.

The Alfa Romeo Spider (Type 916) is a two-seat roadster version of the GTV - only ~39,000 were ever produced between 1995-2006. The GTV variant was described as "one of the best sports cars of its time" by Jeremy Clarkson in 1998 and listed at no.29 in top 100 cars from 2001.

Fitted with a 2.0-litre 16-valve Twin Spark (148 hp) engine block, the car flies in the straights and holds it own in the corners. Equipped with power steering, auto air con, ABS, electric heated door mirrors, electric frameless windows, adjustable headlamps, adjustable steering wheel, six speakers, central locking, this car isn't short on electrical conveniences either.

Over the last 14 years this lovely example has been owned by Tim covering barely ~2,000 miles over that time.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kevin after meeting Tim the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This Alfa Romeo Spider has been the staple of my collection since 2007 and has been my pride and joy.

Owned by Tim for the previous 14 years and maintained the condition of the bodywork, interior, and mechanics of this Spider.

Due to very little use, Tim has made the difficult decision to part with his beloved vehicle - he's hoping a like-minded Alfa Romeo enthusiast will take over custodianship.

Feel free to leave any questions in the comments below, and Tim will get back to you shortly.

Exterior

Designed by Enrico Fumia at Pininfarina with the goal to re-establish the sporty tradition of Alfa Romeos for the 90's - we really like to look of this example with all its sporty character.

Wheels and Tyres

These 16" alloys with tear shape design look in very good condition, when getting really close we did notice some very minor curb marks.

The wheels are wrapped in Goodyear rubber on the front wheels and Delinte on the rear, all the tyres appear to have a good amount of thread on them.

Please see more details in the images and videos provided.

Bodywork

All panel gaps look good - please take a look through all the pictures and videos for a detailed view.

Tim also mentions the soft top is in good order, opening and closing as it should.

Paint

Finished in an elegant Blue Vela Metallic which wraps around the Spiders curves - it really looks the part.

The overall finish of the paint has a great amount of lustre to it, with the colour looking even across all the panels.

When getting very close to the car, we noticed a small patch of lacquer peel on the front bumper and some minor paint chips to the edges of the doors.

Please take a look at the detailed videos for a closer look at the exterior.

Glass and Trim

All appear in great condition across the car. The trim and glass look the part with no major signs of damage, cracks, or chips noticed on the visit.

Please watch the video to see the whole exterior in great detail.

Interior

Luxurious full leather interior with mod cons everywhere you look - a new age of Alfa Romeos. We found the interior of this car to be very well cared for and looking great in all black.

Seats and Carpets

Comfortable full leather seats which hold you in place on the race track, and offer you comfort on long journeys, await you in the cabin of this Spider.

The seats look really great in this example, in line with the low mileage of the car, and have really been given special attention by Tim to keep them in the condition you see today.

The door cards and carpets are in the same condition, clean, and free from major wear or tear throughout.

We've taken detailed photos and videos for you to see how good the interior looks.

Dashboard

As with the rest of the interior of this car, a really nice example. Clean and smart dash and instrument cluster.

The odometer was showing ~43,000 on our visit.

Please view the images to see the dash in more detail.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic sporty Alfa Romeo steering wheel lets you manoeuvre with ease and accuracy, free from distractions.

In line with low mileage of the car it presents in very smart condition along with the manual gear selector.

More photos and videos are available in the internal media pack for you to review.

Mechanics

A raspy 2-litre 16V twin spark propels the Spider forward, with 148 brake horsepower on tap.

Engine and Gearbox

Based on the Fiat SuperFIRE-family block, the engine features an Alfa Romeo-developed cylinder head with two speak plugs per cylinder, variable inlet cam timing, which allows for 25 degrees of variation, designed to improve torque and give more linear power delivery.

Tim has sparingly used the Spider over his 14 years of ownership, he mentions it’s a very feisty engine and assures us it never skipes a beat.

The car started first-time in the mechanical video we conducted, showing the engine bay in detail as well as underneath the car.

Suspension and Brakes

The front suspension of the car utilises a conventional setup of MacPherson struts, offset coils, lower wishbones, and an anti-roll bar.

The rear suspension comprises quadrilateral geometry with an upper triangle, double lower arms, coils, and anti-roll bar secured to a light alloy subframe which is, in turn, mounted onto the car's body. This means the car creates a 'rear-wheel steer' effect in the opposite direction to the way the front wheels are being pointed. So the car can positively fly through the first stages of a corner and offers increased stability in the later stages.

Tim assures us of a very smooth ride and prompt stopping power from the disc brakes.

The Drive

The car offers everything you'd want on a two-seater sports convertible. Dashing Pininfarina styling, prompt power delivery to the wheels, performance-focused suspension and many electrical features which propel the car into the twenty-first century.

Tim has covered very little mileage in the car, however he really enjoyed using the car on sunny weekends and reports a comfortable yet thrilling experience.

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with an aftermarket Sony CD player which is reported by Tim to be fully working along with the power steering, auto air con, ABS, electric heated door mirrors, electric frameless windows, adjustable headlamps, six speakers, and central locking.

History and Paperwork

A UK RHD rare 916 Spider that's been given the proper mechanical and cosmetic attention and covered very little mileage over Tim's ownership.

The car comes well documented with a good amount of history, MOT reports, and receipts dating back to 2001.

The car had a new lower wishbone fitted in 2015 along with a balance shaft belt and tensioner.

Please take a look in the paperwork section to see the detailed history of this car.

Checks carried out by us: Seller ID, V5C, HPi checked and clear.
