Introduction

Glyn Parry
Vehicle Consigner and Photographer

An addictive combination of aggressive looks, blistering performance, and the inevitable Alfa styling cues.

Revealed to great excitement at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show the 4C concept was radical even by Alfa’s standards. The concept car was met with such enthusiasm that Alfa Engineers worked to get the car into production as quickly as possible and it became available to the public in 2013. The diminutive, mid engined sports car packed 230BHP yet was smaller than Alfa Romeo’s own MiTo. This is sports car that is quick, handles beautifully and makes no apologies.

Constructed using a compact carbon fibre central tub, aluminium subframe and fibreglass composite outer skin the 4C is light, rigid, and strong. The 1.7L engine propels this tiny sports car to a factory specified top speed of 160MPH with 0-60 coming up in under five seconds. Transmission is a dual clutch, semi-automatic sequential gearbox with paddle shift controls on the steering wheel and a range of driving styles available from the “DNA” settings.

This 4C comes to auction after ~6 years with its current owner and looking great in Alfa Competizione Red - this is a proper drivers' car and stays true to it’s Alfa Romeo heritage. With the current owner, it has been used and enjoyed; it's not a show car and as such there's areas for improvement that the new owner can address.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Alastair the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This is a fantastic car to drive – it really is the best fun you can have behind a wheel.

Alastair buys his cars to enjoy, and he's really enjoyed this car - he tells us, “I’d never actually seen one in the flesh before and when I got up close it looked even better than I thought. Not only that it’s a fantastic car to look at, but it’s also quick, handles amazingly and really is just the best fun you can have". He goes on to say, “I love throwing the car round corners and the acceleration is incredible, I tend to stay in natural mode. Dynamic and race modes are just a bit too quick for me”.

Family commitments mean Alastair needs something a touch more practical, so it’s with a heavy heart he feels it’s time for a new owner to enjoy the car. Alastair is happy to answer any questions about his car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Beautiful, exotic, capable and stylish – a radical concept with undeniable Alfa heritage.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 19 inch rear and 18 inch front Teledial alloy wheels - they all present well with only some slight curb marks on the nearside front. Alfa branded centre caps look good with only slight tarnishing to the outer edges, as would be expected.

The wheels are shod with Pirelli P Zero 135/35 tyres all round which appear to have good tread remaining. Please check out the images and videos to assess the condition for yourselves.

Bodywork

In 2011 this car was voted 'The Most Beautiful Concept Car' in the world by German Auto magazine, "Auto Bild", and we can see why. The car stands straight and low while looking both aggressive and elegant. Shut lines all look great and we could see no evidence of significant damage to any of the fibreglass composite panels. Doors and boot open and close exactly as they should.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The Competizione Red finish is very good, being picky there are stone chips and marks as would be expected. There are a few scuffs on the lower parts of the car, most notably the front valance and nearside sill. Generally, the car presents well although Alistair believes some detailing work would return the finish to a high standard.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Windscreen, side windows, mirrors, lights, and lenses all present well and we could see no sign of any significant scratches, chips, blemishes, or damage.

The black grill on the front of the car is showing some signs of age-related wear and would benefit from being removed and treated to raise the standard of the overall finish.

Interior

Alfa ergonomics at their best - this cabin is simple, functional and driver focussed.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather sports seats with red stitching are firm, supportive and comfortable with only minor signs of wear on the driver’s side.

Likewise, the black Alfa Romeo branded floor mats appear in good condition with no significant rips or tears that we could see.

Dashboard

The dashboard and carbon fibre instrument panel present well with no scratching to the digital display. The dash top and surround appear to be in good condition as do the door cards and the rest of the interior trim.

Please take the time to look at the hi resolution images and video of the interior so that you can assess the condition for yourself.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Alfa branded, leather covered, sports steering wheel appears in good shape with only slight paint flaking on the centre boss.

The “DNA” drive mode switch looks in good condition as does the centre console as a whole.

Mechanics

The 1,750cc supercharged engine delivers 230BHP through the dual clutch semi-automatic transmission.

Engine and Gearbox

The all-new, aluminium engine on these Alfa’s were designed to minimise weight and maximise power. Power is delivered through the semi-automatic transmission that offers three driver modes – Natural, Dynamic and Race making the car flexible and responsive.

Being centre mounted, visibility around these engines is limited. However, we could see no signs of leaks or damage. On our cold start the car fired up willingly and quickly settled down to a steady idle while emissions appeared clear. Check out the “On the Road” video to see for yourself.

Suspension and Brakes

The car is equipped with disc brakes all round, Brembo 305 millimeters (12.0 in) on the front and 292 millimeters (11.5 in) on the rear. The red calipers look great through the Teledial alloys.

On our brief drive out in the car, it pulled up quickly and evenly without pulling to either side. Alastair said the car is fitted with the suspension sport pack which offers racing suspension together with uprated front and rear anti roll bars.

The Drive

Well, not only is this an Alfa Romeo but it’s an Alfa without compromise. Built to be exciting and fun this car pulled well, sounded incredible and the ride was firm but far from uncomfortable. Steering felt precise and changes through the semi-automatic box felt slick and smooth.

The car accelerated quickly and pulled up quickly and evenly when required - overall, an exhilarating and exciting drive. Check out the On the Road video to share in our experience.

Electrics and Other

All switchgear and the digital display appeared in good order and Alastair assured that all electrics work exactly as they should.

The car is equipped with an Audio and Bluetooth communication system.

History and Paperwork

Alfa heritage and a visceral driving experience – petrolhead dreams are made of this.

The 4C is one of those cars where manufacturers dispense with practicality and build a car with the driver in mind. The semi-automatic gearbox, raw turbocharged power and tight, precise handling make this a real driver’s car. From 6 years with its current owner this car comes with a new MOT, original handbook, and manuals, the car last being serviced in September 2022.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.
