Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Consigner and Editor

The Aston Martin DB9 is not just a car, but a statement of style and engineering excellence.

The 2005 Aston Martin DB9 remains one of the standout luxury sports cars of the 2000s, blending elegance, performance, and exclusivity in a way that few others can match. Hand-built at Aston Martin’s state-of-the-art Gaydon facility, the DB9 not only defined the brand’s visual identity for the decade, but also became a benchmark for grand touring excellence.

With its stunning design, the DB9 is the epitome of British luxury and craftsmanship. The sleek lines and perfect proportions have become synonymous with the Aston Martin brand. Under the bonnet lies a 5.9-litre V12 engine that delivers both performance and refinement. Its power delivery is smooth yet exhilarating, making it a joy to drive both on long roads and twisty back roads. The car's handling is a perfect balance between comfort and sportiness, offering a composed and engaging driving experience.

This 2005 DB9, fitted with the Touchtronic gearbox, is finished in a timeless black exterior with a matching black leather interior. A well-maintained example with just 54,742 miles on the clock, it has been serviced and used regularly, ensuring it remains in excellent mechanical condition. Additionally, it comes with three keys and an MOT valid until May 2025, providing peace of mind for its new owner.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Stephen the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I had every intention of keeping the DB9 as my "forever car" until I stumbled upon a particularly tempting auction on a certain website...

Used regularly, Stephen purchased the car as an indulgence to fuel his passion for the brand. Captivated by the allure of one of the most beautifully styled cars of its era, the effortless power of the V12 and the connection with James Bond.

However, after recently acquiring a Rapide via us here at Trade Classics, the DB9 has now become surplus to his needs.

Stephen will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

A prestigious, luxury grand tourer with timeless styling.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels are in decent shape, with some light scuffing on the front wheels as you'll see in the images.

Fitted with a full set of Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres, all less than 4 years old, they have plenty of tread remaining.

Bodywork

The bonded aluminium panels fit flush, with visually even panel gaps. All doors open and close without any problems, though the bonnet struts could use some attention as they are slightly weak. The car is free of any dents, but we did notice minor bubbling on the edges of the rear wing and on the top of the nearside arch.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The black paint finish boasts a deep lustre and even coverage, presenting the car exceptionally well.

The car was used on a charity rally over the summer, and as a result, there is some sticker residue on the doors and bonnet. These are from special decals that do not damage the top coat and can be easily removed.

The nose does show light road wear, with a mild paint imperfection on the roof - there are also a few light surface marks on the bonnet and boot.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and seals are in good condition, with no issues observed on the lights or lenses. There are a couple of removable decals on the top of the rear screen, which can easily be taken off if desired.

The bumpers are securely mounted and sit flush with the bodywork, with only a minor scuff noted on the rear bumper, which is barely noticeable.

Interior

The well-kept cabin remains an inviting and elegant place to spend time.

Seats and Carpets

The heated leather seats are in very good condition, with no major distractions. As to be expected, there is light bolster wear on the driver’s side and some mild creasing, but overall, the upholstery remains in great shape.

The pocket behind the passenger seat will need readjusting, but otherwise, the interior is clean and well-maintained.

The carpets and aftermarket mats are tidy and completely free of dampness. The boot area shows signs of careful use, with only minor marks noted on the sill plate.

Dashboard

The dashboard and centre console present positively, with the leather free of significant marks, aside from some mild scuffing around the key fob area. The dials, controls, and switches all exceed expectations for a car of this age, and everything is said to be fully functional.

The headlining and door cards are in excellent shape, with no outstanding issues across the rest of the interior trim. The door cards themselves are clean, though the driver’s side does show minor marks on the metal work.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is in good condition, showing no significant wear, the paddles, however, have mild marks as you'll see in the images.

Mechanics

A smooth and refined driving experience with plenty of V12 punch in reserve.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start posed no issues, with the car firing up immediately and with no unwanted engine rattles, vibrations, or exhaust smoke noticed. There are no dashboard warning lights, and the engine runs smoothly and evenly at idle, with no fluctuations.

We didn't notice any leaks during our visit, further demonstrating its mechanical reliability and the engine bay is cleanly presented, reflecting the car’s excellent service record.

The paddle-shift six-speed Touchtronic automatic gearbox was demonstrated to work efficiently, providing instantaneous kick-down with no signs of slackness or delay. The system operates smoothly, ensuring a responsive and engaging driving experience.

Suspension and Brakes

The car rides well, with no unwanted noises coming from the wheels and is free of any creaks at low speeds.

We didn’t hear any unwanted thuds or vibrations from the wheels when the car was braking or cornering, indicating that the braking is good working order, having seen a full set of pads in recent years.

The car remains stable and responsive under typical driving conditions.

The Drive

Buying an Aston Martin is always a decision made with the heart. With a reputation for crafting some of the finest hand-built sports cars in the world, Aston Martin delivers an unmatched driving experience. The DB9 stirs the senses, offering visceral emotions for the true petrolhead, while its sensuous 5.9-litre V12 engine soundtrack provides an unforgettable auditory thrill with every drive.

As a grand tourer with plenty of power, this DB9 meets all expectations of a well-looked-after example. Its road manners are well-balanced, providing excellent grip and dealing with urban roads without any negative feedback. Poised rather than agile, it accelerates smoothly with no unwanted engine noises, while the steering and braking systems perform flawlessly with no notable faults or vibrations.

The ride is typically firm, as expected from a sports grand tourer, but the car remains composed, even on poor tarmac surfaces, and is free from any knocks or unsettling vibrations. Stephen has not reported any issues with oil pressure or engine temperature and has been consistently satisfied with the car’s overall reliability.

Electrics and Other

Stephen told us all electrics are in working order as far as he is aware, there are a couple of amusing, non-functional 007-inspired buttons hidden within the unused ashtray, but both are easily removable if desired.

The car has also fitted with yellow brake calipers, prepared and installed by professionals.

History and Paperwork

Serviced almost every year throughout its life, the car boasts an impressive 17 service stamps since new.

Registered in September 2005 at Mayfair Aston Martin, the car benefits from a comprehensive servicing history, with 17 stamps from both main dealers and specialists. Since Stephen acquired the car in 2021, he has invested nearly £15,000 in maintenance, which includes servicing, ignition coils, paintwork, rear discs, front and rear brake pads, wheel bearings, and handbrake repair. The car was last serviced by Aston Martin Newport Pagnell just ~3,500 miles ago.

The car comes with an MOT valid until May 2025, the original leather owner’s booklet, and three sets of keys, underscoring its well-cared-for status.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
