Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

The DB9 still commands respect, not just for its pedigree, but also for the beauty and elegance of its design.

As a brand synonymous with elegance and desirability, Aston Martin has long been at the forefront of style and driving flair. For those who enjoy the finer things in life, but without the ostentation, the DB9 Volante certainly fits the bill. Without any compromise to Aston Martin's values, the sophistication behind the state-of-the-art engineering was successfully catered for those who also appreciated its rich heritage. Released in 2004, the Volante provides the appeal of open-air luxury touring with the finesse and power of a V12. As the first model to be built at the Gaydon Facility, it represented a new era for the marque, notable for its extensive use of aluminium in its construction and placed the car as an insight into a bright future.

This 2005 DB9 Volante comes to market after ~11 years of ownership, finished in "Grigio Titanio Silver", with a blue Connolly leather and walnut trim, it has a good service history as well as an impressive maintenance file. Having seen a service less than 500 miles ago, it also comes with an MOT to June 2024 and has two keys.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Jerry the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It took a little time to find a silver DB9 with a dark interior, but I'm glad I waited!

Something of a connoisseur of fine cars, Jerry intended to sell the DB9 following the arrival of its replacement but couldn’t resist keeping the Aston. Over his ~11 years of ownership, he has created a bond with the car and it has been the pick for his occasional continental holidays. With the consolidation of his fleet pressing his thoughts, the car is now for sale as he lines up its replacement.

Jerry will be happy to answer any questions in the comment section below.

GET YOUR VALUATION

Exterior

The styling of the DB9 still looks utterly gorgeous, and thanks to its condition, has aged very well.

Wheels and Tyres

The 18” multispoke alloys are in very good order, with just the occasionally minor mark on close inspection.

It has a full set of Bridgestone tyres fitted. The front pair are around 5 years old, with the rear ones from 10 years ago. All are have decent tread and even wear. View the image gallery to see the detail.

Bodywork

The structure is in very good shape, with no issues noted on the underside, inner wheel wells, engine bay and boot floor. The exterior presentation is positive, with no problems regarding panel fit and door gaps and we couldn’t spot any discernible signs of corrosion. There are a handful of very minor dents on the near-side front edge of the bonnet but appear to be easily treatable. The doors open and close with ease.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The "Grigio Titanio Silver" paint has a pleasing deep lustre, with no swirls or significant blemishes. There are a small number of marks on the edge of the bonnet, door edges and boot lid, but otherwise clear of chips or scuffs.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

There are no major issues in terms of the glass, with all of the seals looking intact. There was a minor fracture noted on the offside headlamp cover. Both rear lamp units have been recently replaced. The exterior trim is tidy and neatly mounted.

Interior

Top quality materials and exquisite detailing are just a small part of the luxurious cabin appeal of the DB9.

Seats and Carpets

The "Blue Pacific" Connolly leather seats are in great shape, the driver-side seat has a little wear on the bolster and squab as to be expected, and there are just some minor indentations on the rear seats.

The carpets are in good order, with no outstanding faults. All are bone dry. The boot is tidy and suggests light use.

Dashboard

The dashboard, binnacle and centre console leather are neatly presented, with the occasional sign of age. The door cards are intact, with the walnut veneer door cappings in good condition too, adding to the quality feel. There is the odd touch of bleaching in some areas.

All of the controls, switches and dials are all said to be operational, including the built-in sat nav unit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and paddle shifts are in good shape, with any marks commensurate with the age of the car.

Mechanics

While the Volante offers a heady cocktail of sharpness and refinement, the V12 creates a sound of holy immensity.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start video didn’t reveal any issues with the V12, it fired up without drama, the dashboard warning lights remained off too. After the expected condensation cleared up, the engine idled smoothly without any unwanted noises or undulations. The engine presentation is very good, with no signs of wear or damage.

The Touchtronic gearbox with paddles appeared to be faultless in use. Watch the video of us on the road to see the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

The car rides well, with no observation of vibrations or noises coming from the suspension, it dealt with the uneven roads without any nasty thuds.

The car brakes confidently, with no pulling at the wheel or grinding heard.

The Drive

As a grand tourer, the Aston Martin simply excels. Subtle yet imposing, the DB9 Volante has aged well, and to the uninitiated, many would have difficulty believing it's a 20-year-old design. The car cruises in a relaxed manner, with the ride offering satisfying compliance, with no significant noises heard during the short low-speed drive.

The nature of the bonded aluminium structure occasionally emits a low-level creak, but around town, it wasn’t noticeable. The steering appeared to be sharp with no slack and was demonstrated to be vibration-free. We were treated to a light blip of the pedal to release the V12 horses, which sounds sensational. Jerry has not reported any issues with oil pressure or engine temperature.

Electrics and Other

The "Atlantic" blue mohair roof has a handful of minor age-related marks as to be expected, but importantly retracts and raises well, with no strain from the electric motors. The owner has also pointed out that both the boot and bonnet struts have been recently replaced.

A wind deflector and Bluetooth connectivity unit have also been fitted.

History and Paperwork

The Aston comes to market from ~11 year ownership, presented very well and has a decent service history, along with evidence of regular maintenance.

First registered by Lancaster Reading in July 2005, the car comes with comprehensive documentation of servicing and maintenance. Having owned the car for 11 years Jerry has taken the car to the Aston Martin main dealer to attend to much of the maintenance, which includes bonnet/boot struts, a new radiator, brake work and a new tonneau lid motor. It was last serviced at 78,415, in which only 450 miles have been added since. It is sold with an MOT to May 2024, comes with two keys and its original owner guide booklet.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned an HPI check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi there, can you confirm that there are no bubbles on the paint work. I couldn’t see any from the photos and nothing mentioned in the description, but thought I would double check.

Thanks
