Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

Wind in your hair, a V12 soundtrack, and a licence to thrill!

As a brand synonymous with elegance and desirability, Aston Martin has long been at the forefront of style and driving flair. For those who enjoy the finer things in life but without ostentation, the DB9 Volante certainly fits the bill. Without compromising Aston Martin's values, the sophisticated state-of-the-art engineering was successfully combined with a rich heritage. Released in 2004, the Volante offers the appeal of open-air luxury touring with the finesse and power of a V12. As the first model to be built at the Gaydon facility, it represented a new era for the marque, notable for its extensive use of aluminium in its construction, providing insight into a bright future.

This lovely example comes to market after ~2 years ownership, with only ~15,086 miles on the clock, it has a current MOT valid until 01.12.2025. Finished in "Grigio Titanio Silver" over red leather, the car has seen works actioned in the current ownership that include renewal of exhaust parts and the roof mechanism, on top of servicing.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Brian the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The Aston Martin DB9 Volante has been on my bucket list of cars to own for a while.

Brian purchased the DB9 ~2 years ago, purely to scratch an itch that had been there for some time to own a V12 Aston. After an extensive search, including bidding on many auction with us, Brian found this 2005 DB9, which ticked all the boxes.

Brian has spent a considerable amount of money on the car in that time, but due to a lack of use, he has decided to part with the DB9 Volante. He will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Elegant, powerful, and always ready to drop the top in style.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the factory ten-spoke 19" alloy wheels, these are all in good condition with no signs of corrosion on the faces. However, there is a small amount of tarnishing and water ingress on the centre caps.

The tyres are two different brands, front to rear, but both have plenty of tread remaining, especially on the rear, as these were fitted in the current ownership in November 2024. Please see the image gallery for more detailed images.

Bodywork

Walking around the DB9, the bodywork is excellent, with no dings or dents spotted and no reaction to the panels often seen under the paintwork on these Aluminium bodied cars.

We've provided high-resolution images and videos detailing our observations, so please take the time to review all media files for a comprehensive view of the cars exterior.

Paint

Finished in the lovely "Grigio Titanio Silver", the paintwork presents well. There are a very small number of stone chips, but these are minimal. We noticed a couple of age-related marks, but nothing that appears to have gone through the top coat, so they should likely be polished out.

Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos to form your own opinion on the paints condition.

Glass and Trim

All of the windows are in good order, with no noticeable scratches, and the window trims are also in good condition.

The fabric roof is free from damage, and operates correctly as you would expect given the work actioned by Aston Martin on it. It's worth mentioning that it would benefit from a deep clean to remove some of the green - Nothing a Sunday afternoon wouldn’t rectify!

Interior

Red leather everywhere provides a lovely contrast to the Grigio Titanio Silver exterior.

Seats and Carpets

The seats, finished in red leather, generally present well. The driver's side outer bolster has some unfortunate colour wear as pictured, from getting in and out and the seatbelt.

The carpets are in good condition, and mats have been fitted to help protect them. Inside, the boot is clean and tidy, and the original warning triangle is in place.

Dashboard

Matching the seats, the red leather dashboard is in excellent condition. The instruments are working correctly, the odometer shows ~15,086 miles at the time of our visit, and there are no warning lights displayed when the car is running.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather steering wheel is in great condition and shows no signs of excessive wear to the rim or buttons.

All of the buttons are in good order, with no noticeable signs of wear. Please see the interior gallery for more images.

Mechanics

The V12 purrs like a gentleman snoozing after afternoon tea but roars like a lion when properly provoked.

Engine and Gearbox

The 5.9-litre V12 fires up on the button and sounds fantastic, with no untoward noises coming from the engine bay on start-up, and no issues have been reported by the vendor. We also got the car up to temperature after the drive, to try and capture sounds on idle when hot which does seem to show a tick. As mentioned previously, exhaust elements have been renewed in the current ownership as detailed in the invoices.

The automatic gearbox delivers smooth shifts, whether in fully automatic mode or using the paddle shifters. Watch the video to see the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

As expected from any sports car, the DB9's ride is firm yet still offers a good level of comfort. There are no untoward noises coming from either corner of the car.

Grooved discs are fitted to the front and rear. These appear to be in good order, with no lip on the edge, and they bring the car to a stop in a straight line.

The Drive

Driving the 2005 Aston Martin DB9 Volante is a blend of luxury and performance. Its 5.9L V12 delivers ~450BHP with a rich exhaust note, while the six-speed automatic gearbox ensures smooth, responsive shifts.

The chassis balances comfort and agility, making top-down cruising or spirited drives equally rewarding. Inside, hand-stitched leather and fine trim enhance the grand touring experience.

Electrics and Other

The switchgear inside the DB9 is in great condition. Although wear is common on the silver buttons, we are pleased to report that they are all in very good condition, with just some marks around some of the bottons on the lower centre console area.

Brian has informed us of two minor faults. The first is an issue with the alarm siren, which triggers a message on the instrument panel when the ignition is switched on. The second is that the third brake light does not work, though he says this isn’t an expensive item to replace. Everything else is in working order as far as Brian is aware.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~2 year ownership, just 3 former keepers, this car shows ~15,000 miles and significant recent expenditure in servicing and maintenance.

The car has its original hand/service book included, along with two keys and three remote fobs. There is also a collection of invoices for work carried out since Brian has owned the DB9, totalling over ~£17,000, mainly with Aston Martin main dealers and has a current MOT valid until 01.12.2025

We’ve conducted our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5, and a history check on the vehicle. This professional HPI check highlights whether the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or has any outstanding finance. Please note: This does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our view of the car based on information from the seller above. As you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in high-resolution detail—this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. Please sit back, have a cuppa, and take your time to review everything in this listing to assess the vehicle's condition.

Viewings are also welcomed for all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time. We just need to speak to you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.
If there's anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can’t be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car—just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
