Introduction

Colin Bashford
Professional Consigner

James Bond's car from 2006's Casino Royale, the DBS, has a more aggressive style than the DB9, and still retains the V12 heart under the bonnet.

The DBS made its official debut at the 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Based on the VH platform that was shared with the DB9, the DBS featured sharper body styling, with additional vents in the bonnet and front bumper, as well as a redesigned rear bumper. The V12 engine up front was available with either a ZF automatic gearbox or a Graziano manual. When released in 2007, the DBS was Aston Martin's flagship model, taking over from the first generation of the Vanquish.

This specific car is a 2009 model, fitted with the manual gearbox. It comes to market after nearly ~3 years with its current owner and includes its original service book, a current MOT valid until 19 May 2025, and receipts for work carried out over its ~37,285-mile lifetime. The car has seen professional repair and inspection after previously being involved in an accident, and so as an appropriate condition inspection report and marker. The car was last serviced this year in April by a local Aston Martin specialist and has covered ~800 miles since then.

This listing was written from information supplied by Colin after meeting Robert the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

You need to be cautious with the power; the DBS can bite easily!

Robert purchased the DBS around three years ago and has covered approximately ~11,000 miles during this time. He told us that nothing compares to having the powerful V12 up front and the roar it produces, "You need to be careful with the throttle, as it has plenty of low-down torque waiting to be unleashed".

Robert has thoroughly enjoyed his time with the car but has decided it’s time to pass the DBS on to another enthusiast. He will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

CONTACT OWNER

Exterior

With its iconic Aston grille, along with additional vents on the bonnet and bumper, the DBS means business.

Wheels and Tyres

The original 9 double-spoke wheels are fitted and in great condition, finished in "Anthracite Grey". We noticed only one mark due to curbing on the offside rear wheel as pictured.

The wheels are wrapped in a matching set of Pirelli P-Zero tyres, all of which have good tread, the front items being older items have mention of slight cracking on the last MOT.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the DBS is in good condition, with the doors, bonnet, and boot showing visually consistent shut lines and opening and closing with ease. We did notice some typical corrosion for these Aluminium bodied cars from Aston under the paint in certain areas, including around the driver's side front wing vent, the door handle on the rear wing next to the rear windscreen, and above the passenger side quarter window.

As mentioned, the car suffered some accident damage in 2017, just Category D, and this was repaired and professionally inspected with a pass in June 2017. We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The "Lightning Silver" paint is in nice condition, with good lustre and a consistent colour match around the car. We did notice some light scratches on the front bumper on the passenger side and the rear bumper on the driver's side. Additionally, there are some stone chips around the car, which we have highlighted in the photos and videos.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass around the car is in good condition, with no major chips or cracks observed in the windscreen.

The trim is in decent shape, and all badges appear to be in good condition.

Interior

Lavishly appointed with leather, Aluminium and some carbon fibre too, the interior of the DBS is a truly special place.

Seats and Carpets

The leather sports seats feature the DBS logo embroidered into the seat backs and are in good condition, with some wear noted on the driver’s seat bolster.

The black carpets are also in good condition, with no rips or tears observed.

Dashboard

The clockwise speedometer and anticlockwise rev-counter greet the driver, a charming quirk of Aston Martin from this era. The clocks are clean, and the odometer reads approximately 37,285 miles at the time of our visit.

The leather covering on the top of the dashboard is in great condition, with no damage noted, although we did observe some creases on the passenger side.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original Aston Martin multi-function steering wheel is present and in great condition, with minimal wear observed.

The chunky Aluminium gearstick is in good shape, better than most which can often suffer due to ring marks etc, with the numbers clearly displayed. The flyaway handbrake, however, shows some wear on the handle.

Mechanics

The V12 produces a distinctive, unmistakable Aston Martin sound, and with the addition of a manual gearbox, it only sweetens the deal.

Engine and Gearbox

The V12 roared to life on the first attempt and ran smoothly without missing a beat. On the road with Fabio, Robert's mechanic, the drive felt like a special occasion. With all that power on tap, the damp roads made it tricky to put it down. Fabio mentioned that it's easy to spin the wheels.

The engine performed without any unwanted noises, and the gearbox engaged gears without issue.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension felt excellent, absorbing bumps with composure—exactly what you want from a GT car.

The DBS is fitted with carbon-ceramic brake discs, which performed superbly on the road, stopping the car with ease and without any judder or pulling on the steering. Fabio mentioned that he recently changed the rear discs.

The Drive

The DBS has all the ingredients for a thrilling drive: the V12, the unmistakable noise, and the manual gearbox. This is a proper driver’s car.

Although the conditions on our drive didn’t allow us to fully exploit the cars potential, even then, it stands out as a special car with undeniable road presence.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrical features during our visit, but Robert informed us that, to the best of his knowledge, everything is working as it should.

The tyre pressure sensor indicated that one of the wheels was low, and this will need to be investigated.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~3 year ownership, this rare manual DBS has had 11 services throughout its life, with 8 of them carried out by main dealers.

The car comes to market after nearly three years with Robert and includes its original service book, receipts for work carried out, and MOT certificates. The DBS has a current MOT, valid until 19 May 2025. It was last serviced in April this year by a local Aston Martin specialist and has covered ~800 miles since.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check. The car suffered some accident damage in 2017, Category D as pictured, this was repaired and professionally inspected with a pass in June 2017 and so the car does have a HPi certificate at per the document in the History and Paperwork gallery.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
