Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Consigner and Editor

Beautifully constructed and sculptured, the Rapide perfectly blurs the line between coupe and saloon.

Aston Martin is renowned for its accomplished supercars, quality and graceful styling, and know a thing or two about low-volume, rather special 4-door Supercars. Introduced in 2010, the Rapide could lay claim as the world's most elegant 4-door sports car. Its appeal goes way beyond its beauty, sharing its chassis with the DB9, the Rapide adds an element of practicality, without losing a single ounce of desirability. Powered by a ~470BHP 5.9-litre V12, Aston Martin's intent for the Rapide was also evident by the its beautifully sculpted interior and advanced aluminium construction. Quite simply put the Rapide was a cut above the best of the German Supersaloons.

Of the ~804 home-market Rapides, only seven home-market cars left the factory finished in "Amethyst Red". Used by the Aston Martin marketing team as a demo car and exhibit at events, this 2010 Aston Martin Rapide is fitted with a Touchtronic sequential transmission and is fully equipped with every option available at the time of production. This includes a set of 20” polished wheels, ventilated black leather seats, premium Bang & Olufsen audio system with rear entertainment package, front/rear parking sensors and a high specification alarm. It comes to market after ~2 years with our vendor, it was serviced in June 2024, just ~700 miles ago, has an MOT to July 2025 and comes with all three keys.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Steve the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Of the cars I've owned in the past, the Rapide is one of those cars that sits on top of the enjoyment list.

Steve is no stranger to the charms of Aston Martin and bought the Rapide from a collector around two years ago. Keeping cars for 18 months or so, he's been fortunate enough to enjoy the best sports and luxury cars on the market.

He's a member of the Aston Martin Owners Club, who confirmed that the car was originally owned by Aston themselves as mentioned. He has had the car serviced and pampered it alongside his DB7 Vantage, most recently having new brake discs and pads fitted too. Having experienced the thrill of owning a Rapide, it's time to pass those delights over to its next owner. Steve will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Sculptured to near perfection, the Rapide's elegant contours are enhanced by the stunning finish and colourway.

Wheels and Tyres

The 20” Multi-spoke diamond-turned wheels in silver are smartly presented, with minor signs of age showing some treatable road wear.

The Rapide is sitting on a full set of Bridgestone Potenza tyres. The front items are ~7 years old and the rears are from 2022. All have plenty of even tread from what we could see.

Bodywork

The panel-work is flush and free of damage, with visually even shut lines and all doors open and close easily, with a functioning glass drop operation. The bonnet gas struts support the weight but might need replacing in the future. The car's structure is free of issues, and the floor pan, boot floor and engine bay are all in great shape.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The stunning metallic paint finish has a mild pearlescent finish, which sparkles on a sunny day. We were limited by overcast light, the hue still enhances the elegant lines beautifully. The body has an excellent lustre with a deep shiny finish, free of swirls or age. Aside from a couple of minor stone chips on the nose and a light mark on the base of the nearside A-pillar, the overall presentation is excellent.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass and seals are all presented without damage. The lights and lenses are in good condition, all free of wear and scuffs.

The trim and chrome embellishments have aged well and the bumpers are scuff-free and well mounted.

Interior

Adorned with exquisite detailing and high-quality furnishings, the Rapide's cabin is like no other 4-door car.

Seats and Carpets

The car is fitted with ventilated "Obsidian Black Caithness" leather seats which are free of any significant scuffs or wear.

The carpets are cleanly presented showing no signs of water ingress. The boot is well preserved, suggesting it has been only used in the lightest of capacities.

Dashboard

The dashboard is superbly presented, with no damage or scuffs to distract. The dials and switches are clean. The facia leather is free of marks and the centre console is in good shape. All of the interior functions are confirmed as working.

The door cards, cabin trim and Alcantara headlining are in excellent condition.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multifunction steering wheel is smartly presented, wrapped in black leather. The automatic gearbox features paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, and the drive functions for the gearbox present well on the centre console in their familiar location for Astons of this era.

Mechanics

Refinement personified, this calm cruiser can be instantly transformed into a raucous racer.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start process is straightforward, the V12 engine firing up without hesitancy, the engine idling smoothly without any hiccups or leaks. All dashboard warning lights stayed off throughout the visit. As the engine warmed up and the condensation cleared away, the exhaust remained completely smoke-free.

The engine is notably clean, again part of the fastidious regime that Steve has conducted to keep the car as clean as possible during his ownership. The Touchtronic gearbox operates perfectly, shifting smoothly with no noticeable slippage.

Suspension and Brakes

The car handles with confidence, we don’t hear any thuds or creaks from the wheels, and it maintains an impressively smooth ride thanks to the intelligent dampers.

The braking was proven to be effective, Steve has recently replaced the front discs and pads at the last service.

The Drive

The Rapide conducts itself in a civilised manner, ably managing the roads and at urban speeds, it masks its talents with subtlety around the 30 mph roads. The cabin feels tight, comfortable and free of creaks. This refinement cleverly disguises the fact that this is a truly sporting car; the low seating position, tight steering, precision detailing and quality are constant reminders that the Rapide needs to be opened up to be truly appreciated.

The paddle shifts offer almost F1-style changes and combined with an unmistakable V12 purr, Steve showed us, that once the car had warmed up, its impressive pulling power was effortless in action. The steering is compliant with a positive feel, with no pull to the sides as Steve braked.

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with a sixteen-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system compromising of rising dashboard tweeters and a rear seat entertainment system with TVs built into the front seats, complete with its original headphones. Other features include ventilated seats and parking sensors, this car is said to have been fully loaded from factory, originally used by the Aston Martin marketing department to showcase the model.

History and Paperwork

The Rapide has a healthy service schedule record, including a recent maintenance bill for ~£4,000, it comes to market from ~2 year ownership and is a fully loaded example having been originally owned by the marketing department at Aston Martin.

First registered in November 2010, it has been confirmed by the Aston Martin Owners Club to have been first registered to Aston Martin. It was originally used by their marketing team to showcase the model. It has been maintained by a mix of main dealers and specialists ever since, bearing 8 Aston Martin stamps and 4 independents over its lifetime. Invoices go back to 2018 which includes services, a replacement emergency key, new TPMS sensors and sundry items. The online MOT records have shown an almost clean sweep of advisory-free MOT passes.

Coming to market after ~ 2 years with Steve, last serviced in June 2024, it was also fitted with new front discs and pads, along with a new auxiliary drive belt. It has an MOT to July 2025 and comes with its owner manual and three keys, including its crystal key and an emergency key.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
