The minimalist chic of the Audi TT has stood the test of time.

The original Audi TT is the very definition of a modern classic. A styling exercise that didn’t stray far from its original concept drawing, it offered the sports car driver a stylish design with retro touches and enough power to provide a spirited experience. Recognised as a significant milestone in automotive history, the TT's reputation is growing as a car to keep an eye on.

Its virtues of top-notch build quality, sure-footed handling and engineering refinement betray its familiar but solid underpinnings. Sold with two engine options, this late MK1 has the 247bhp 3.2-litre V6 which not only adds a little more zip to the chassis but with its DSG gearbox and convertible body style makes it a perfect option for those looking for a relaxed but powerful tourer.

Of course, we have dozens of TTs submitted to us each month for consideration into our auctions, but sadly they don't usually have all the key ingredients suitable for us to take them on, e.g. most are high mileage, smaller engines or even unusual colour schemes. This one stood out to us as a proper 'future classic' ticking all the right boxes.

First registered in 2005, this car is finished in Dolomite Grey and has the rare Moccasin Baseball interior. With just ~57,277 miles on the clock, it comes with 9 service stamps, and two keys and still has its original bill of sales and PDI document. Sold with an MOT to April 2025, its last service was just ~1,000 miles ago. The private numberplate is not included in the sale, an age related plate will be attached to the car.

Meet the owner

One in a line of sports cars I've owned over the years, the TT rates as one my favourites.

Roy has plenty of experience with sports cars, having owned several classics ranging from TVRs to Porsches, but has admitted he was drawn to the iconic design of the TT, due to its unique styling and interior presentation.

Used as an occasional car, Roy bought the car from a prestige car dealer not far from where the TT was originally registered.

The only reason for sale is due to a medical issue meaning convertibles are no longer an option, but Roy does plan to replace the car with something similar, but with a fixed-head roof in the near future.

Exterior

The subtle Dolomite Grey paint finish complements the near perfect bodywork.

Wheels and Tyres

The 18” 7 spoke alloys are perfect candidates for a refurb, but still present well and appear to be solid - an easy fix to bring the standard up to the rest of the car.

The tyres are mixed brands, the front pair are less than 3 years old, and the Hankook rears are a little older. There is a little sidewall kerb damage on a couple of them but they all have decent even tread.

Bodywork

The presentation of the galvanised body is positive, with no panel damage noticed. The panel fit is flush with the body with even door shut lines. All doors open and close without obstruction. The car's underside looks solid, with no issues noted on the floor pan or jacking points.

Paint

The Dolomite Grey paint finish has an even coverage, with a healthy lustre. There are a handful of age-related marks on the body; a few small chips on the lowest edge of the bonnet, the driver's door edge and light marks elsewhere.

We also spotted some underpaint bubbling emerging on the offside front wing, but otherwise, the finish has to be considered above the expectations of a car of this age.

Glass and Trim

The glass is all in decent order and the headlamp and taillight lenses look good.

The plastic trim is free from significant marks and the bumpers are well mounted with minor scuffs on the rear item.

Interior

The unique Moccasin 'Baseball' leather seats livens up a well preserved cabin.

Seats and Carpets

The car is fitted with the rare Moccasin leather baseball-style seats, with Mocassin stitching. They’re neatly presented with just mild creases and minor bolster wear on the driver's seat.

The carpets are all in good condition, with no signs of dampness.

The boot is well presented, with mild scuffs on the plastic trim.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in excellent condition, with no notable scuffs or damage. The facia aluminium detailing and quality plastics have lasted well. The controls and switches are all in positive condition and were all said to function as they should. The centre console shows a few minor marks in places. The binnacle dials are in good shape, although there are a few dead pixels on the main readout.

The headlining is in good shape, with a little wear noted on the roof-lowering button assembly - the rest of the trim and door cards are in good condition.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gear lever are neatly presented, with a small amount of wear on the leather gear knob noted.

Mechanics

Dependable and refined, the V6 engine has plenty of pulling power.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.2-litre V6 engine starts up without hesitation, idling smoothly with no rattles or vibrations. The dashboard lights remained off and no unwanted exhaust smoke was observed.

The positive condition of the engine hoses and its general presentation should instil confidence in the car's regular maintenance record.

The Automatic DSG gearbox was proven to demonstrate its smooth shifts and engages gears without problems.

Suspension and Brakes

The car ride was positive, with no bangs or knocks heard as we drove along the ruts and uneven roads - the rear springs were replaced in 2017.

The brakes are effective, with no vibrations or squeals.

The Drive

The TT drives confidently and in 3.2-litre form very refined. Around town, the car was perfectly manageable, but once opened up the smooth power delivery also offered a chance to hear the engine's natural note. The car is an ideal cruising machine, particularly mated up with the DSG gearbox.

While on the test drive, no unwanted noises were heard from the engine or wheels. Roy has not experienced any issues with the car's engine temperature or oil pressure, and they remained in check during our visit.

Regular servicing has meant that any problems have been avoided, and it appears that the car has been used sympathetically under Roy's (and the previous) ownership. The steering remained free of vibrations with no unwanted knocking heard when turning.

Electrics and Other

The hood is in good condition with mild wear lines on the folding creases. It also lowers and raises without any problems. The hood cover is a flush fit.

The car has been upgraded with a Blaupunkt DAB Bluetooth/USB player.

A centre console cup holder and Bose sound system were fitted as part of the dealer options when new.

History and Paperwork

It retains a good servicing record, as well as its original new vehicle order form.

Registered by Audi Portsmouth in October 2005, it was purchased new by a lady owner who then sold it to a friend. It comes with its original new vehicle order and PDI forms, as well as its owner's wallet with 9 service stamps and invoices for maintenance, including brakes and suspension work and a new battery. It was last serviced in late 2022 - about 1000 miles ago, has a current MOT valid until April 2025 and comes with two keys. The private numberplate is not included in the sale, an age related plate will be attached to the car.
