Introduction
Kulraj Singh Salh
Arguably the pick of the bunch, the lighter 4.2L V8 is said to give the R8 a more balanced drive, the open gated manual gearbox is an excellent pairing and the coupe with the contrasting side blades gives that supercar look.
Audi created a car that gave that supercar feel, sensibilities of the German manufacturer, and at a fraction of the cost. The 4.2L V8 is a dynamic engine that they've been developing for years, when you hear the 414BHP engine start up, you know you're in something special.
This example is coming to market after 3 and a half years ownership, a solid service history, and looks beautiful in "Jet Blue Metallic" with ivory interior. This car has also had the factory bulkhead welds reinforced, engine carbon clean actioned, and a large service including water pump actioned last year.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kulraj after meeting Chris the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hello Chris.
Can I ask you a few questions please?
Is it on the original clutch?
Has the oil cooler been replaced or have you had any issues with it leaking?
Does the Aircon work?
Many thanks.
Chris D
Hi Chris, thanks for the interest. I don’t know if the car is on the original clutch, but there is nothing wrong with it – it has not been replaced since I have had it.
The oil cooler has not been replaced to my knowledge – the oil temps are within normal ranges regardless of if you drive the car hard or not. There have been no oil leaks during my ownership. The Aircon valve failed three years ago – a known fault – and was replaced and the Airton regassed. It works perfectly.
Best,
Chris
Has the car ever been damaged ? Thanks
Hi, The car is HPI clean and it has not had any damage under my ownership, nor has any inspection indicated otherwise.
Best,
Chris
Hi – where did you have the car serviced recently? Does the sat nav work ok and does it have the 6 disc CD player? Thanks. Adam
Hi Adam,
The car was serviced at Audi VW specialists ,Harrow. They look after a number of gen 1 R8s. The car comes with the 6 disk changer (all working perfectly), plus MP3 via SD cards. The sat nav works as it should – the antenna was recently replaced under my ownership.
Best,
Chris
Does the car have any current known faults or is it 100% running fine as far as you are aware.
Hi,
The car runs as it should – it is my daily driver. It was just serviced. The MOT states a pitted rear disk but that is all, and I was not advised that it needed replacing. It pulls hard, there is no clutch slippage, brakes work as they should and the magride functions as intended. There are some body work touchups required if you want it 100%. Please see responses to other posts.
Best,
Chris
Hi Chris,
Would you be so kind to answer a few questions.
Have you had any brake work done during your ownership or is there any evidence in the history of recent discs & pads?
Were any issues / recommendations picked up during the recent service that still need addressing?
Is there any evidence of clutch slippage when accelerating in high gears from low revs?
Thanks James
Hi James,
I have not had any brake work done since owning the car. There was an advisory at the last MOT – rear disk pitted. No issues or recommendations related to the last service. I have not felt any slippage on the clutch when pulling hard from high gears.
Best,
Chris
Owners?
Hi Jason,
I am the 6th owner of the car – I bought it in early 2018, so around 3.5 years.
Best,
Chris
Number of owners please
Number of owners please?
The report mentions some corrosion on driver door – how bad is it? How badly worn is the driver seat? Many thanks! Adam
Hi Adam,
The spot on the drivers door is at the very bottom, about 1.5 inch long by 0.5 inch wide and unnoticeable unless you have your face right up against it. It isn’t rust – the car is all aluminium – just some oxidation under the paint and the metal underneath should be fine. There is another spot the same size under the passenger door handle.
The driver seat has plenty of life left in it. The leather and stitching are not ripped – it looks like a seat that has done 40,000 miles.
Best,
Chris
Ok thanks Chris
Chris,
I have bid, but sadly will not be able to view the car before the end of the auction. Can you advise if the car has had any body work, particularly on the drivers side? The front and read bumper ‘shut lines’ appear marginally larger than the passenger side. Could be due to the passenger front lip having been grounded.
I can see the car would need a few bits of paintwork to make it perfect, like the bonnet nose, drivers rear quarter, either side of the lower rear light, and driver door corner. Is there anywhere else that is of note?
Thank you
Dan
Hi Dan,
The car has not had any body work done under my ownership. There is one other spot where paint has bubbled (not rust, it is aluminium) – directly underneath the passenger door handle, around 1 inch by 0.5 inches. Not visible unless you pull the handle up and look up underneath.
Best,
Chris
I will offer 27k in cash, quick deal. Pat McHugh, from ireland. 00353868785625.
Hi Pat,
I am not taking cash offers at the moment. I’ll let the auction play out.
Best,
Chris
Morning.
In your ownership you say you replaced a shock absorber.
Was this done as a preventative measure or had you experienced some problems? Was there no requirement or advise to replace the pair?
Thanks
Hi,
The shock absorber had not failed, but had started to weep a small amount of magride fluid so was replaced before the issue progressed. The other shock was fine in the inspection and I was not advised that I needed to replace both. The car rides perfectly and the mag ride works as it should.
Best,
Chris
Hi Chris
Do you mind if I ask why you chose to get the bulkhead welds strengthened, where there any cracks? Doing research on R8’s it seems that views are very mixed on whether this can be done properly without weakening the existing alloy. Looking at the good condition of the car (you’ve clearly loved it), be interested to know why you went this route.
Many thanks
Roger
LHi Roger. Thanks for the interest in the car. There were absolutely no cracks in the chassis – please take a look at the photos, I have included the before and after shots to confirm this. I had the work done as a preventative measure because I wanted the peace of mind. I previously owned 911s with the IMS issue playing on my mind and didn’t want any doubts with this car.
The work was done by Ricky Elder at RE performance – he is the top Indy for R8s in the country (maybe Europe), a previous Audi employee and has done this work on many other cars. Note that Audi included the frame strengtheners on later R8 models, which I see as an admission that this can be an issue. The plates used on my car are OEM.
Best,
Chris
