Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Consigner and Editor

A swift and civilised road rocket; the RS4 has a brilliant chassis and engine.

The mid-2000s is considered a glorious era for Audi, with a lineup that included the imposing R8, stylish TT, the roomy and understated A8 and the ahead-of-its-time A2 - Audi had each sector filled with panache and style. A fertile time to release the 2nd generation RS4, the mid-sized series of saloons, estates and convertibles were unique in the market by offering plenty of body options, combining versatility and ease of driving with supercar dynamics.

Thanks to the Quattro all-wheel drive system, you can change the front-rear torque distribution and enjoy the RS4's direct-injection V8. In addition to its excellent mid-range and balanced handling, the RS4 can offer dependable traction in practically any situation. Fitted with subtle flared wheel arches to house the classy 19" alloys, there is also a Lamborghini influence in the cabin too. The RS4 not only went well but looked decidedly sporting too.

This 2007 RS4 Quattro Avant is finished in the desirable Daytona Grey, with a black leather/carbon fibre interior. It comes with a significant amount of spending recorded in the paperwork, and has been well-kept and maintained at every stage. Additionally, it has undergone a number of beneficial modifications, which has made a good car even better, currently running ~440-hp With a folder full of provenance, it comes with two keys, an MOT to August 2025, a recent service, Stage 2 tune-up and the rare Carbon Ceramic brake option, a recent addition.

No doubt about it, this example is head and shoulders above most other examples on the market today.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting James the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The valves open on the exhaust, the throttle response changes and it's a bit of an animal… but tameable.

James spent several months looking for the right car, so whilst this RS4 might appear to be a bit leggy, it was the right spec and more importantly, he could tell by its impressive history file it had received the right care on top of the tasteful and correct modifications.

James has not been afraid to master the car, appreciating the subtle rear bias even on a slightly greasy B road. Despite being completely hooked on the raucous V8 and the linear power delivery, reality has set in and James needs to release some cash to enable a house move.

James will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Years of careful cosmetic attention and effort have kept this RS4 looking as good as possible.

Wheels and Tyres

The refurbed 19” double-spoke alloys are in excellent condition.

The car is shod with a recently fitted set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 tyres and have plenty of life in them.

Bodywork

The exterior is free from significant damage and the panel fit is flush with even shut lines. All of the doors open and close easily.

The car's structure is solid throughout and there appear to be no issues on the underside, wheel wells, engine bay or suspension mounts.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The pearl effect Daytona Grey paint finish is excellent, with a healthy lustre and no colour anomalies, scuffs, swirl or haze noted.

As you'd expect, there are a handful of minor chips on the nose of the car, with the odd light mark elsewhere but nothing that has penetrated beyond the base coat.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The factory-tinted side glass is all in great order, with only a little light tint damage spotted on the base of the rear windscreen. A minor front windscreen crack has been flagged up as the cars only MOT advisory, James has had a brand new windscreen fitted through his insurance since the MOT. The lights and lenses are all in good shape and the trim is all correct for the model and have aged well. The bumpers are well-mounted.

Interior

The presentation of the near-perfect cabin is a tribute to Audi's quality and each owner's care of duty.

Seats and Carpets

The interior presentation is impressive and betrays the age of the car. No significant issues were spotted on the electrically adjustable front RS4 embossed Recaro shell-type RS race bucket seats thanks to a recent refurb. The rear seats are also positive, with mild signs of age in places.

The carpets and mats present well and are damp-free. The luggage area appears to have been spared heavy use, with no significant wear to the carpeted boot trim, just a little light wear in places.

Dashboard

There are no distracting marks or scuffs on the dashboard, the facia and centre console still look fresh. The carbon fibre trim is complete and in excellent shape.

All buttons, controls and dials are neatly presented, only the centre armrest showed any signs of age. All functions are said to work, including the air-con and the electric windows.

The headlining and interior trim are clean.

There are a few mild marks on some of the plastics but well above the expectations of a car of this age and mileage.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The flat-bottom steering wheel, which is shared with the Lamborghini Gallardo, is in excellent shape, with no marks or signs of age observed on the gear lever and its leather gaiter.

Mechanics

Powered by the same engine as the R8, the potent V8 has the same weighty mid-range punch.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start process was straightforward, as the car fired up immediately without fault. The engine didn’t produce any unwanted noises or strains and the engine management lights all remained off. There was a little condensation from the exhausts, as expected, with no suggestions of unwanted fumes.

The V8 engine is pleasingly presented, showing signs of maintenance and attention. There was no evidence of fluid leaks during our time with the car. It has recently undergone a service, had a full carbon clean, new MAF sensor and a fresh stage 2 remap, resulting in a dyno readout showing 440-hp. To enable better breathing a Milltek switchable exhaust has been fitted to the car, which helps bring out the glorious sound of the V8.

The 6-speed manual gearbox operates exactly as it should, with no reports of slackness or difficulty engaging gears. James is happy with the clutch's performance and compares it favourably against his partner's Mini Cooper.

Suspension and Brakes

The ride is firm but cushions the ruts and bumps without unwanted noises or creaks. The upgraded carbon ceramic sport brakes operate perfectly, with no signs of grinding or wobbles.

The RS4’s Dynamic Ride Control damping system has been removed and replaced with KW coilovers.

The Drive

With the car's health in excellent order, the brute force of the RS4 gives an enjoyable driving experience. James always ensures that the engine is up to temperature before opening up the car and has been fastidious in only using high-octane 99 RON fuel for the car.

Civilised to drive on urban roads, we were also treated to a brief but exhilarating demonstration of the ability to adjust the soundtrack of the exhaust. Combined with its superb grip as you’re held in by the body-hugging seats, this is a genuine supercar experience in a practical estate car.

The car's stability and cornering are faultless, the Quattro all-wheel drive adds a considerable amount of control; useful when the roads are damp. The steering was compliant throughout the drive, with no pulling under braking. James has told us the car has been reliable since he’s owned it and has had no issues with the oil pressure or engine temperature.

Electrics and Other

Fitted with a factory-fitted BOSE sound system, James tells us all electrics around the car are in working order to his knowledge. The car has seen several tasteful modifications to aid its driving enjoyment, including a Milltek switchable valved exhaust system.

The intake manifold has also been deflapped and the engine has been remapped to an MRC Stage 2 state of tune and the RS4’s Dynamic Ride Control damping system has been removed and replaced with KW coilovers.

History and Paperwork

A significant amount of money has been spent on this car and comes with the documentation to back this up.

First registered by Lister Audi in Worcester in March 2007, the car has an impressive folder of invoices (complete with an RS4 badge on its spine) from new. This includes its new car order form, sales brochure and printouts of two previous sales adverts. Also included are around 130 printed invoices covering mechanical and electrical work, sundry items, cleaning, refurbs and upgrades. Also included is a USB stick containing scans of the same invoices and a spreadsheet of the breakdown of costs over its ~17 year life.

Work over the last 5 years includes new suspension parts, AC regas, a new throttle body, refurbed seats, powder-coated alloys, a new battery, oil cooler and lines, new pads and rear discs, along with the coilovers amounting to over 15K.

On top of this, James spent an additional £3,500 over the summer on a service, a Stage 2 tune, an oil separator, a new MAF sensor and a full set of tyres.

As to be expected, it comes with a good record of servicing, the last one carried out just ~600 miles ago. It is sold with its complete owner's wallet, two keys and an MOT to August 2025.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
