Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Consigner and Editor

The Audi RS4 Avant offers dynamic performance and practicality like no other car.

The Audi RennSport (Racing Sport) program had been well established by the time the B7 Audi RS4 was unleashed in 2006. While it wasn’t a surprise to expect genuine supercar performance, effortless usability and practicality, Audi rose above its German rivals by offering the RS4 in three body shells. Subtle in its execution, the flared arches, stiffer body and some Lamborghini-inspired detailing are complemented by the four-wheel-drive Quattro system mated to the ~414BHP 4.2-litre V8 engine.

Powered by the same engine as the R8, Audi’s first Supercar, the RS4 has the distinctive advantage of offering generous accommodation, easy-to-operate controls and practicality with the opportunity to experience that V8 deep growl soundtrack. Offering the expected build quality and durability from Audi, the RS4 masquerades as a viable daily driver with a genuine ability to satisfy those seeking a thrill.

Registered in March 2007, this cleanly presented "Avus Silver" with a black leather interior has been with its current owner for over ~9 years and has seen ~£18,000 worth of work in that time. This is including a new gearbox and clutch, with additional work carried out to replace much of the suspension. It has an MOT to October 2025, has just been serviced at the start of November 2024.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Alex the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I had always wanted a powerful V8, but also wanted something practical and understated.

Alex bought this car back at the start of 2016, he tells us "This car ticked all the boxes while also not being too technologically advanced, I feel that many of the later performance cars had far too much computerised systems taking away from the raw driving experience".

As detailed in the history and paperwork, he has spent on maintenance whenever needed and covered ~20,000 miles in that time. "I have enjoyed the car for nearly a decade and with a young family, it feels like the right time to pass it on to someone else to enjoy!", Alex will be happy to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Consecutive owners have kept on top of the car's presentation, and the paintwork is almost unmarked.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19” double spoke RS alloys are well presented in silver. The front nearside rim has light scuffs but the rest look good.

The car is fitted with a full set of Goodyear F1 Eagle tyres, the rears date from 2020, the offside front is dated 2018 and the nearside was replaced three years ago. They are in good shape with legal tread as pictured.

Bodywork

The Audi is smartly presented, with no significant impediments, other than a minor but treatable dent on the bonnet. The panels are flush to the body and demonstrate even shut lines. All of the doors open and close easily. A glance underneath the car reveals no structural problems, the engine bay, wheel wells and boot floor are solid. There is some damage noted on the underside plastic tray.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The "Avus Silver" paintwork has a smooth lustre and a consistent colour match across the car. It's generally free of surface blemishes, aside from some mild lacquer peel spotted on small areas of the nearside rear door. We also noted some mild under-paint bubbles close to the offside roof bar and base of the rear door well.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in a positive condition, with no delamination or chip damage noticed. The lights and lenses are in decent shape, a little condensation was spotted in the front headlamp lenses.

The driver-side door weather stripping trim shows mild signs of age. The rest of the trim has aged well and is well-mounted. The mirror frames are in good shape and the bumpers are notably free of stone chips or scuffs and are flush to the body.

Interior

The cabin has been pampered by each one of its owners and wears its years well.

Seats and Carpets

The RS4 motif leather seats are cleanly presented. The front seat have a few mild creases and wear on the bolster but all could be easily brought up a level.

The carpet and mats are clean and free of dampness. The boot appears to have not seen heavy use, showing decent trim and carpets.

Dashboard

The dashboard displays well with no outstanding damage. There is a light scuff on the top of the facia of the binnacle and a mark on the centre armrest. The centre console looks good with some mild marks on the metal trim. No issues were noted on the digital display, switches, dials or controls. Alex has told us all of the functions work to his knowledge.

The door cards are decent, there are a few scuffs on the nearside rear door card but otherwise the rest of the trim and headlining are positive.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Keeping to the performance nature of the car, it has a flat-bottomed steering wheel wrapped in leather and presents well. The manual gearstick presents well too as pictured.

Mechanics

Smooth and docile to operate in the real world, the RS4 hides a considerable amount of talent until unleashed.

Engine and Gearbox

It starts up with no problems, the exhaust condensation clears up quickly. We left the engine running for 20 minutes and there were no signs of unwanted exhaust smoke as the temperature gauge remained in check. No warning lights were noted to stay on as the car idled. The engine sounded smooth on start up, free of unwanted tapping or knocking.

The 4.2-litre V8 engine is cleanly presented with evidence of recent maintenance and there were no fluid leaks noted on the day. The exhaust sounds purposeful, and the valves for the sports mode operate without any reported problems.

The 6-speed gearbox works without fault, offering smooth and slick changes, an invoice supports that the gearbox and the clutch were replaced in 2023.

Suspension and Brakes

The handling is perfectly balanced and the RS4 rides very well, without any unwanted noises heard from the wheels. Alex told us that he has had all of the suspension (including all of the fixed and flexible hydraulic lines (DRC) replaced with the exception of the front springs. All four shocks were also replaced around ~7,000 miles ago. The car dealt with the damaged road without fault.

It brakes confidently, with no pulling noted on the steering wheel. No judders or squeals were heard, the residue on the brake discs is from a recent lack of use and a 30-minute drive cleared up the issue. Alex informed us that the front brake pads were recently replaced and the car comes with a spare pair for the rear along with the calliper gasket kit. Alex bought all pads at the same time but the rears didn't need changed when the front pads were changed.

The Drive

The second-generation RS4 offers a great balance of power and refinement, making it an ideal candidate for those seeking thrills with quality. Its adherence to the road and ability to correct itself is partly due to the all-wheel drive Quattro system and Audi's development of the optimal front-engine-chassis balance. Like any quality car from Ingolstadt, it behaves impeccably as a daily driver and it has to be said a perfect introduction to Quattro power. Alex tells us "I like that this had a traditional manual gearbox and differential. It’s a very easy car to drive and be sensible, even blend into the crowd".

Once on the open road, the car comes to life and Alex demonstrates its sharpness and agility. The car tracks well, with no other issues with the steering, and is free of play or wobbles. The power delivery is seamless, and the engine sounds tight at cruising speed. Alex has not reported any trouble in terms of oil pressure and has informed us that the engine temperature has always stayed in check.

Electrics and Other

Alex told is all electrical components were working, as far as he is aware. The car is fitted with an aftermarket Forge oil cooler. Otherwise, Alex tells us that it retains its original specification.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~9 year ownership, just serviced this month, and with a new gearbox and clutch in 2023, this is a well sorted example.

First registered in March 2007, it comes with nine service stamps and a pile of invoices for maintenance and servicing, on top of some previous MOT certificates. The most recent work is for a new gearbox and clutch in August 2023, carried out by VW-Audi specialists Vass-Tech at almost £12,000. Before this, Alex took the car to the same specialist to overhaul the suspension followed by new shocks and brake lines.

Older invoices relate to servicing and brake components including new discs and TPMS. A recent airbag replacement recall has also been fulfilled.

It has an MOT to October 2025, comes with its owner manual and was last serviced in early November 2024.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
