Described by Top Gear as “The most tactile Audi driver’s car ever” the Audi R8 was right at the top of the Audi range. It is a proper sports car, mixing V8 power with incredible handling, 4-wheel drive and beautiful looks. Out of the factory the R8 promised 420BHP from the 4.2 litre engine giving 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, and that’s in standard form!

This R8 has some serious upgrades including a supercharger, remote controlled Capristo exhaust, racing suspension and more. It's now said to be pushing out ~593BHP, that's some immense performance for this car. Modified to deliver on road and track this really is a fabulous performance car.

Meet the owner

It is a unique car – I wanted to create a driving experience with blistering performance.

Shaun purchased this R8 in 2012 with a plan to modify it for road and track use, he tells us f “Having driven many cars I loved the appearance of the Audi, the mid-engined layout, the 4-wheel drive and the fact that it was a good old fashioned V8”. After finding this example which had covered ~26,000 miles, he purchased it and within the first year set about with the upgrades. The car was fitted with a supercharger and a Capristo exhaust system, the result was an increase of ~170BHP on the stock set up.

“I was planning to build for track and daily use so, in last 6 months, we lowered the car, put in Recaro racing seats, front splitter, rear spoiler and refurbished all the wheels and calipers", see the details in the invoice section. Unfortunately, due to health issues Shaun won’t be able to use the car as he had hoped so is keen to pass it on to a fellow enthusiast. Exterior

Striking profile and aggressive stance – this R8 begs to be driven.

Wheels and Tyres

Shaun advises the alloy wheels were recently refurbished and, as the images confirm, they remain in excellent condition. The Pirelli ZR19 ultra high performance tyres appear in great shape with good tread remaining, 295's on the rears to help transfer the power to the road.

Bodywork

Shaun took what was already a dramatic design and has added his own touches in the form of a rear wing and front splitter this year. The car stands square and straight. The panel gaps are good and the doors, boot and bonnet close cleanly and precisely, very typical of Audi engineering.

Paint

The car is wrapped in white and this has been done remarkably well. In fact, it is difficult to tell immediately that it has been wrapped. The original paint colour is black and where this is exposed, such as in the door shuts, the paint appears good. The new wrap was applied in September this year.

Glass and Trim

The glass appears in very good condition and the dark tint contrasts beautifully with the striking white wrap. The trim and badging is in excellent condition all round.

Interior

Well organised and functional - the interior on the R8 didn't disappoint and suggests real quality and purpose.

Seats and Carpets

The retrofit Recaro seats are in excellent condition and really enhance the sporty feel. These should provide good support for some spirited driving. The carpets, door cards and headlining all present very well with only some minor marks on the drivers door. The seats are new items, see the recent invoice at QST to see all the work completed.

Dashboard

The dashboard is clear and elegant with everything sensibly positioned. The glass is clear, without visible scratches and the dials are undamaged.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Steering wheel is in excellent shape, feeling secure and comfortable. The open gated gear shift and lever are beautifully designed, you are immediately drawn to them. The gear knob has typical signs of wear that come from it being a metal item.

Mechanics

A stunning package - ~593BHP on tap, race suspension and Capristo exhaust.

Engine and Gearbox

The original specification 4.2 Litre V8 on this R8 is a robust, torquey and responsive unit. A sound basis then for adding the PES G4 FSI supercharger system which, combined with the exhaust, elevates the power output from the original 420BHP to just shy of ~600BHP.

As well as incredible performance the car sounds fantastic too with the remote control Capristo exhaust allowing you to enjoy the full, glorious, sound on the open road while toning it down nearer home to stay friends with your neighbours!

Suspension and Brakes

The red brake calipers, visible through the dark alloy wheels look amazing and Shaun assures us they function pretty well too. The brake pads were replaced in 2014, and Shaun advises the calipers were recently overhauled.

The suspension on this car has been overhauled on this car with a Bilstein kit at a cost of ~£4,000 as detailed in the invoices.

The Drive

Shaun assures us the car drives as well as it looks and sounds. Lowered, with adjustable race suspension, the car is equipped to handle all the additional power. Testament to the cars engineering pedigree, Shaun describes the driving experience as intimate and engaging rather one of brutal raw power.

Electrics and Other

Shaun advises that all the electrics work as they should to his knowledge, with switches, lights and driving systems all fully functional. The car has Audi's own Navigation system built in.

History and Paperwork

A V8 R8 with performance that is close to the V10 Plus, couple that with some choice design updates and you have a very unique Audi indeed.

Past bills detail costs of over £12,000 on the supercharger and over £4,000 on the Capristo exhaust system. There are also various other bills showing considerable other investment in modifying this car. A rolling road report shows the power and torque readings of ~593BHP following the supercharger and exhaust installation.

Coming out of 9 years of ownership, with the upgrades completed in the current ownership, this is a car that is for those of us that look for that little bit extra.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5, and the vehicle is HPI clear.

Hello. The car was MOT and serviced to track standard in 2016/2017.. it was on track for 15 laps.. testing and tuning settings.. then it was put in storage..was maintained.. taken out of storage 2021 and serviced to use sadly I cannot drive it! Not can I put it back in storage!
