Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

One of the most iconic cars ever built; the Mini has a special place in everyone's heart.

The classic Mini first graced the world back in 1959, with its small stature and cute face. The 1275GT, like we have here was introduced in 1969, it features a different design at the front, with a squared off grille. It was a sportier version of the Clubman, which shared the same front end.

This specific car is a later 1979 model owned by Tommy for the past ~18 months, he has restored the car, with an engine rebuild, new gearbox, suspension, brakes and steering. With all the receipts for the work carried out present, it also comes with a heritage certificate from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Tommy the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A fun little car to motor down a B-road on summer days like now!

Having bought the 1275GT as a project, Tommy has carried out an extensive restoration of the car. Trying to keep the car as close to a factory finish as possible, Tommy has received a heritage certificate from British Motor Industry Heritage Trust.

Tommy has enjoyed his time restoring the motoring icon and is now looking for his next project, so he has asked us to help sell the little car.

Exterior

The 1275GT features lovely Java Green paint, making it stand out from the crowd.

Wheels and Tyres

Ultralite wheels were found on the car and all looked in great condition with sparkling silver paint with chrome lip.

A set of Yokohama tyres wrapped the wheels, they all looked in great condition with plenty of life left in them too - they were all dated 2022.

Please have a look at the photos and video below to asses the condition of the wheels and tyres for yourself.

Bodywork

The exterior bodywork around the Mini looked in great condition with good panel gaps - we just noticed the bonnet did seem to sit ever so slightly higher on the driver's side though.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, externally / underside, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The Java Green paint showed a nice lustre, with an even coat around the car.

We only noticed some light swirl marks on the paint but nothing major and would improve with a machine polish.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Glass looked great around the Mini too, we didn't notice any chips or cracks around the glass on the car, there was a few scratches on the passenger window though, again nothing major.

The chrome work around the car looked in great condition too.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

Interior

The classic Mini interior is like a Tardis, with much more room than you expect.

Seats and Carpets

The vinyl covered seats looked in great condition, they didn't show much wear at all.

Carpets also looked in great condition too.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to decide on the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.

Dashboard

A very simple dashboard, it has all the dials you need, controls for lights and the vents and that's it, allowing you enjoy the drive with a clutter free view.

No issues to speak of here.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A 3-pronged GT branded steering wheel was present, it looked in great condition, with a leather covering around the rim.

An alloy knob sat on top of the gearstick, it looked in great shape too, not showing much wear at all - the stick and gaiter also looked in great shape.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to check the condition of the steering wheel and gear stick for yourself.

Mechanics

Powered by a 1,275cc engine, the Mini could reach a top speed of ~90mph.

Engine and Gearbox

Tommy tells us that the engine has been rebuilt recently, and it fired up first time with no issue on our visit. On the road the Mini got us to speed easily, with the perky engine revving well, we didn't notice any unwanted noises coming from the engine.

The new 4-speed gearbox had smooth changes, slotting into gear without issue.

On the road gears the gearbox performed very well.

Please take a look at the cold start video below to see for yourself the performance of the engine and gearbox.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension has also been replaced during the restoration, it felt great on the road, handling the bumps with ease, giving a comfortable ride.

The brakes stopped the car well too, Tommy told us the Mini had 7.5 calipers at the front and drums at the rear - they stopped the car without issue, we didn't notice any pulling on the steering under braking.

Please take a look at the on the road video below to see how the suspension and brakes performed.

The Drive

On our short drive with Tommy the Mini felt great on the road, we had a mix of country lanes and some dual carriageway. The Mini managed up to the national speed limit well and felt like it had more to give.

On the twisty sections the Mini took the corners in its stride, it really is an enjoyable little car to pedal down roads like these.

To see the car in motion please take a look at the on the road video below.

Electrics and Other

The Mini is a simple car with very little in terms of electrics, what it did have was working as expected, with clocks and fans working.

Tommy assured us everything was in working order.

History and Paperwork

With the amount of work carried out by Tommy, the 1275GT is like a new car.

Tommy has various receipts for all the work he has carried out of the car, from the engine rebuild on 14.12.2022 to the wheels and tyres, suspension work and everything in between, many of the parts were supplied by Mini Sport LTD.

A heritage certificate from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust comes with the car and matches the VIN plate that you'll see in the images - Tommy just needs to refit the tag now the paintwork is complete.

We don't have any history from before Tommy's ownership, there has been 6 former keepers though.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
