Introduction

Josh
Professional Consigner

Motoring heritage and prestige is right at the heart of every Bentley with the Mulsanne S being no exception.

Taking its history from Le Mans racing, where Bentley claimed five victories at the 24 Hours race between 1924 and 1930, the Mulsanne is named after the Mulsanne Straight, one of the quickest sections of the famous French racing circuit.

Having held roots with Rolls-Royce through previous company acquisitions, the Mulsanne S shares its 6.7L engine with a Rolls-Royce V8. Engine upgrades on the 1986 model onwards boasted a Bosch fuel injection system and 3-speed automatic transmission. Featuring the alloys, sportier suspension and plush interior of the Bentley Turbo R, the Mulsanne S also packs in an impressive naturally aspirated 6.7L engine under its handsome exterior.

If you're in the market for a rare car and one that will turn heads from passers by, then this Bentley should rate very highly on your list. With only around 970 of these models being made this is a real modern classic and one of the finest examples of British Motoring you're likely to find. Lovingly cherished with ~90,991 on the clock at time of visit, this Mulsanne S boasts an excellent condition interior, added reversing camera for driver benefit and thorough and considerate maintenance.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Josh after meeting Mark the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Lovingly cherished by the current owner for ~8 years and looking great in its classy colourway.

Originally setting out with a desire to purchase a Rolls-Royce, Mark happened upon the Bentley Mulsanne whilst searching online for a classic car. With the Bentley grabbing Mark's attention; a test drive was booked in, a deposit was left, and the rest, as they say, is history. ~8 years on and the Bentley is still as impressive now as it always has been - looks, drive, presence on the road, the Mulsanne S has it all.

Mark enjoyed the car for many years with his wife, often attending shows and taking the car on journeys together. Sadly, with the passing of his wife the time has come for a new chapter to begin with a new car in Marks sight. Proudly showing its original character, the car has had no major work actioned on it, preferring to keep the car as original as possible. The only addition is the added benefit of a reversing camera to aid any future owners in their driving.

With poise and grace, the elegance of this car is obvious even at first glance, Mark mentions; "I think everybody should have the chance to drive a Rolls or a Bentley at some point in their lives, as in my opinion, it is British Engineering at its best".

Exterior

The craftsmanship on a Bentley is something to be truly admired - this model shows off everything that the company is all about with its cultured finesse and clear attention to detail.

Wheels and Tyres

A full set of Avon Turbosteel tyres with an attractive white sidewalls wrap the Bentley branded alloys.

Take a look over the exterior gallery section for a close up view of the wheels and tyres on the Bentley.

Bodywork

Still showing today in all its glory the Bentley is in lovely condition.

Looking closer at all the angles there was a slight ding on the bonnet area but overall we observed no significant issues with the bodywork or its condition overall on our visit.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the gallery section for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

With no major attention required for the paint over the years, the car presents in a beautiful way with its special order, 'Rhapsody Blue' finish. If we were being particularly picky, we did notice some slight signs of bubbling on the paint on the front wheel arch and bumper, but nothing that presented a serious concern.

We've taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass is all presented in excellent condition, with no obvious scratches or chips which we could see at the time of our visit. The trims and seals are the same, matching the rest of the vehicle.

Take a look through the exterior gallery and review video, we take you across all the areas of the car as if you were standing there for yourself. This way, you can see in greater detail what a great looking car the Bentley really is.

Interior

The interior is an absolute highlight of the car; well maintained, luxurious materials and fine craftsmanship on display at every corner.

Seats and Carpets

Entering the cabin area of the Mulsanne S, the seats showed themselves in a great condition with no rips or tears. The drivers seat has been reconditioned over its life and the Magnolia hyde leathers, with contrasting dark blue piping, really look the part when admiring the cabin area.

Equally, the rest of the car's interior is a really impressive sight; blue carpets with lush lambs wool overmat, cover the footwell sections with great looking blue carpet sitting nicely underneath. There appeared to be no issues with the carpet sections themselves and were an inviting part of the interior.

The carpet sections in the boot area also present in stunning fashion, a well kept boot lid carpet and stunning Royal Blue boot interior appears as if has been barely used. No marks were observed and overall looked really great.

Dashboard

The dash area is simply exquisite, a highly polished, walnut veneered fascia is a classic take on Bentley elegance. Dials display well with no signs of fogging on our initial inspection. Mark lets us know that he has had no issues with the dial readings or any of the dash functions over the course of his ownership.

Our interior gallery section takes you over some closer images of the Bentley's dashboard, head over and see the cars interior in finer detail.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Elegant and simple in design the steering wheel is a no-nonsense leather bound approach designed to keep the driver focused on the road. The wheel itself displays really nicely showing little sign of wear and tear.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

With its 6.7L V8 engine under the hood, the drive on the Bentley is equally as impressive as its looks.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3 speed auto gearbox had no noises that were untoward or any issues that we observed when looking over the car and engine area. Whilst on the road the car went through its paces and gear changes with no hesitancy.

The car has had servicing completed by Paul Mackley, a Bentley specialist over the last few years.

Take a look at our 'On the road' video where we see the Bentley start up from cold. We take the car onto some local roads with Mark to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about.

Suspension and Brakes

Whilst out on our road we took the car onto some local roads; we noted no knocks, or unwanted noises from the suspension and the braking showed no sign of pulling or strain.

Take a look at our 'On the Road' video to see in real time how the car responds to the road and driving.

The Drive

A thoroughly beautiful drive coupled with poise and elegance on the road. The Bentley glides along its journey and this modern classic is an absolute head turner when out on the road.

Being one of the last versions of the British made Bentleys, the craftsmanship is really apparent when you're driving in the car. Well balanced and impressive, the Mulsanne S has a real presence about it.

Electrics and Other

The Bentley has an after market CD stereo system installed to the dash area, although this wasn't tested whilst out on the drive. Mark lets us know that all the electrical elements are working as to be expected with no issues observed by the owner.

If any further questions are needed about the electronic functions within the car, these can be added in the comments section at the base of the listing.

History and Paperwork

With an excellent level of service history this Mulsanne S has benefitted from thorough maintenance and upkeep over the years.

Presented with a great level of service history this car has a lot of detail around the maintenance and care that's been put into it. From the servicing that its kept since its initial purchase, through to oil changes, filter servicing and brakes maintenance the car wears its history proudly. The car has been kept mainly to factory spec to preserve its class and heritage although there have been some added extras such as the addition of a reversing camera and an updated stereo system.

With the same level of care and attention given to preserving its service history and exterior quality, the interior reflects in the same way. Luxurious seating and carpets are proudly in place - all of which are a real highlight of the car. With ~90,991 shown on the clock at the time of our visit this is a really fine and rare example of a great piece of British Motoring and definitely one not to be missed.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
