The Arnage has the excellent 4.4L twin turbo offering outstanding performance and an acceptable return on your MPG for this class of car.

The Bentley Arnage was introduced in 1998 and produced until 2009. It was the first newly designed car for the marque since 1980. Luxury and style are what you get when you step inside the Bentley. Fire it up, and this particular model has the 4.4-litre V8 twin turbo engine from BMW. The twin-turbochargers give the Bentley an impressive 349BHP and 420lb-ft of torque to propel the luxurious saloon from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds, which is very acceptable considering it's a vehicle weighing in at 2320kg.

This lovely ~48,963 mile example has been with the previous keeper for over 13 years before being sold due to lack of use to the current vendor. Coming to market from ~1.5 year ownership, it's had some routine maintenance and detailing of the stunning cream leather interior to give the Arnage a fresh feel suitable, for any gentleman looking for a spot of high-end luxury.

Meet the owner

I’ve admired this Bentley for many years what with it being local to me. When it wasn’t used for some time, I made the call to ask if I could buy the car, and he said yes!

Phil has a passion for cars, and when he spotted the Bentley, which is local to him and had not moved for a few months, it was worth a call. With a deal struck, Phil wasted no time getting the car collected and sent off for an inspection. There were several things to action before Phil started to use the car; a full service, new tyres, replacement brake lines and a deep interior clean and recondition.

Exterior

The Bentley Arnage has a huge presence out on the road - elegant and luxurious with strong solid looks.

Wheels and Tyres

The original wheels are in good order, with just some minor signs of corrosion to the back edges on some of the spokes. £1,200 worth of Avon Turbospeed tyres have been fitted and have covered just a few hundred miles.

Bodywork

Looking around the Arnage, as you would expect with any Bentley, the panel gaps are nice and tight with no areas for concern. There are no dings to point out other than a very slight indent on the roof, which is very slight and has to be caught in the right light to see.

Quite a rare option at the time is the tilt/slide sunroof which is working as it should. Please take the time to look through the hi-resolution images we have taken for a more detailed look at the exterior.

Paint

Finished in the wonderful "Beluga Black", the Bentley is in good order. There are some swirl marks which are inevitable with a black car of this age. The only place we could see which has had any paintwork is on the left corner of the bonnet, which is only a small amount and again only really visible if looking in the right light. Stone chips are few and far between, in keeping with the mileage of the Bentley.

The images taken are from various angles and reflections to show off this wonderful 1999 Bentley Arnage at its absolute best, as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The windows on the Bentley all look to be in good order with any marks in keeping with the age and mileage. All the window rubbers are in excellent condition, along with the chrome surrounds.

Looking at the chrome work around the bumpers, light surrounds, and windows, there are no signs of obvious tarnishing. Likewise, the lights appear to be in good condition, with no cracks on the front or rear lenses.

Interior

Cream leather throughout, and it smells like the interior was trimmed just yesterday!

Seats and Carpets

Phil has had the interior of the Bentley professionally deep cleaned, where they have fully removed the interior to achieve the best result possible. That result is stunning! The seats have had some light re-connolising on certain sections, which have been unstitched and then put back together as if it was new leather. The door cards are also in good order, with no apparent scuffs to mention.

The carpets are in excellent condition, complete with the wool floor mats in place. There is also another set of factory mats which are in excellent condition. Inside, the boot is nice and clean and lifting the carpet shows the complete tool kit, with the spare wheel located under this.

Dashboard

The contemporary dash layout of the Arnage is a classic, timeless design. It features a wooden fascia that is in good order with no cracks to be seen. There is what appears to be some light delimitation on the outer top edge of some of the wooden fascia, and some new door cappings would be a nice finish as the existing items have started to split a little on the finish.

The instruments have a clean cream finish to the faces and a red needle and are reported to be working as they should. Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is excellent thanks to the deep clean. There are no signs of any excessive wear to it, and the buttons are in good order and working as they should.

Mechanics

The BMW 4.4 litre twin turbo engine is a nice sized unit for the Bentley - offering excellent performance and economy.

Engine and Gearbox

The car has received a full service when Phil purchased it a year ago, to ensure everything is as it should be and to continue the service history.

The car starts up from cold with the flick of the key and comes to a smooth, quiet idle. It pulls well through the gears, and the change is smooth as you would expect from this luxury car manufacturer. There were no untoward noises to be heard coming from either the engine or transmission.

Suspension and Brakes

Phil has replaced the rear spheres after the initial inspection of the Arnage. With those done, the suspension is smooth with an excellent ride. At the same time as the suspension work, new brake lines have been fitted to replace some that were showing slight corrosion.

The brakes have a positive feel and bring the 2320KG Bentley to a halt with ease with no juddering through the pedal.

The Drive

You certainly feel like a gentleman out in the Bentley, and it gives you a feeling of stature sitting in the leather-clad interior, wafting along in the luxurious Arnage. The ride itself is smooth, and you could easily drive this car for miles and get out as fresh as a daisy.

Electrics and Other

Inside, everything is reported to be working as it should. The Alpine head-unit has a remote control, and there is a CD multi changer mounted in the centre armrest. The trim which drops down over the head-unit does have a couple of cracks in the lacquered finish. The switch gear looks in good order with a minimal amount of wear.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market with a modest ~48,500 miles recorded, this early Arnage with its BMW 4.4L twin-turbo V8 makes for a different proposition to the 6.75L gas guzzlers.

Unfortunately, the service book has been misplaced at some point by the previous keeper. There are some invoices showing parts purchased and work carried out in the past few years.

Phil has put the Bentley through an MOT test that is valid until the 10th March 2023. So with the Bentley Arnage now ready for the road, it is time for you to step into the world of luxury cars at a fraction of the cost when new, and indulge yourself with this high level of quality.
