Marrying British sophistication with power, the Arnage R is more than just a car - it's a statement of distinction.

The Bentley Arnage was introduced in 1998 and produced until 2009. It was the first newly designed car for the marque since 1980. This is a facelifted R variant fully equipped with tonnes of optional extras fitted at the factory. The R features twin-turbochargers and a whopping 6.75L V8 which produces ~450BHP. With a 0-60 time of ~5.8 seconds and a top speed of ~168MPH, it's not short in the performance department. Quite a feat when you look at the size of the car and how the interior is trimmed.

This fine example is finished in "Diamond Black" and trimmed in "Magnolia over Beluga", it comes to market from ~2 years ownership, what can be considered low mileage for the model, and with 5 former keepers. It is a Mulliner specification car, and is believed to have also been one of the original Bentley demonstrators, meaning it comes fully loaded with specification almost to the levels of the T. It has features such as a cocktail compartment on the lower front seat back, rear bottle cooler, umbrella in the luggage compartment and DVD player with headphones. This example is an incredible opportunity to own something very special that has been well cared for and a desirable specification. The private registration plate is not included in the sale.

Meet the owner

The Bentley is absolutely a work of art in my eyes, the lines on it are beautiful and it's such a luxurious ride.

Bentley's of this spec or showing this level of quality don't come around very often. When Richard first set out looking for a new car, the Arnage was high on the list. He tells us "I wanted the T version of this model originally as it had all the details I fancied, however, when I found this one I had to purchase it as it was kitted out with all the great extras".

The car comes to market as Richard has less time to spend enjoying the Bentley than previously "I love the Arnage, but the garage space is getting a little smaller and I have to let this one go to a new home". In his ownership, he has had the car serviced by marque specialists Balmoral in February, and also has had the entertainment system upgraded to an Alpine system with Bluetooth connectivity etc. Richard will be available to answer any questions about the car in the comments below.

The Arnage R commands attention for all the right reasons, carrying its sophisticated bodywork with effortless elegance.

Wheels and Tyres

The Arnage is fitted with optional upgrades of 19" split-rim alloys with red centre caps. The wheels look in great condition, we only noticed a very small curb mark to the front offside and slight signs of age related wear to the centre wheel caps.

Finished with Pirelli P Zero's and a tyre spec of 225/45, these are dated from 2015 to 2017. The tyres appear to have a good amount of tread left, in line with the limited use of the car. Bodywork

The Bentley maintains well-aligned panel gaps and all four doors, bonnet, and the boot open and close smoothly when we visited the car. From the factory, the car came optioned with a Jewel filler cap, quad exhaust tailpipes, revised rear bumper, and radiator shell painted with a stainless steel matrix style grille.

During our visit, we didn't note any major concerns on any of the panels, although when getting really close to the drivers door, we noticed a very small ding near the keyhole. Overall though, the bodywork looked great.

Paint

Finished in a very attractive "Diamond Black" paint which looks excellent, an elegant choice that pairs well with the leather interior. Overall the paint is even in finish and colour across all the panels. The car has had restorative work carried out on it, there were only very minor signs of stone chipping to the exterior which we had to look fairly closely to spot.

Glass and Trim

The glass appears inline with the rest of the car for its age and mileage, all the panels look great without any cracks, chips, or marks to note. The car was ordered with a tinted windscreen, and security glass from the factory. There was a slight sign of age to the main emblem badge that we noted. The front and rear lights looked well-maintained. We didn't observe any cracks, chips, or scratches during our visit.

Exclusive style, beautifully finished wood with fine leather trim and just about every modern luxury feature available for the time.

Seats and Carpets

Luxurious diamond-quilted seats with beautifully stitched Bentley emblems are fitted in this Arnage R. The diamond quilting continues around the doors cards, and indented hide headlining is also fitted. The cabin of this Bentley is a really lovely place to spend any time travelling.

We noticed some very slight signs of wear to the driver bolsters in line with the age and mileage. The armrest in the front and rear also show the slightest signs of use. A small nick was noted out of the rear armrest, although overall, the interior maintained a really luxury feel to it. Deep pile carpets are in place across the floors with lambswool rugs also fitted to the front section. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images of the Arnage R.

Dashboard

A burr walnut veneered dashboard welcomes you as you get in. The Bentley dash and instrument cluster are impeccably clean and smart, with all the numbers appearing clean, clear, and legible. The odometer displayed ~30,956 miles at the time of our visit.

The dials, switches, and controls all appeared to be in excellent condition, with surfaces appearing clear and free from fogging or scratching. The dashboard display dials and digital elements functioned flawlessly, and everything seemed to be in proper working order. Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Arnage is fitted with a Bentley branded leather over wood steering wheel and chromed automatic gear selector. We didn't note any signs of excessive wear or concerns here as this section was looking beautiful.

Mechanics

The 6.75L V8 twin-turbo engine unleashed ~450BHP from factory, enough to deliver a 0-60MPH time in just ~5.8 seconds.

Engine and Gearbox

Starting up the car, we noted no concerns with the engine, and the car idled smoothly. Richard reports that the engine and gearbox are very smooth, as you would expect, and everything is working as it should.

We took the car out on some local roads with the Richard, to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. During the drive, we went through the motions, shifting through the automatic gearbox, and seeing how the car performs. Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs, or issues from the suspension when we were on the road, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling. The brakes felt great and were easily able to manage bringing the Bentley to a stop.

The Drive

Despite its weight nearing ~3 tonnes, the Arnage carries itself remarkably well with its agility and athleticism. Cornering with the finesse, it responds effortlessly, almost masking its larger size. Acceleration is impressive, thanks to its huge levels of torque, delivering a sense of speed that belies its size.

Driving out on the open road, the Arnage maintains the grandeur of an ultra-luxury vehicle, offering superb levels of comfort.

Electrics and Other

From factory the car was fitted with; Automatic headlights, CD changer, cruise control, DVD system in the rear compartment with screens in front headrests, fully electrical front seats with 4 memory functions, headlight washers, power windows, front and rear seat heaters, ultrasonic park distance control and voice control.

The stereo system was upgraded in June 2002 to an Alpine CDE-205 DAB/CD/MP3 digital radio with Bluetooth telephone functionality, Richard has retained the original upgraded unit too.

All switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and in good condition. Richard mentioned that he's had no issues with the other electrical elements of the car and believes that everything should be working correctly to the best of his knowledge.

History and Paperwork

Fully loaded from factory, this low mileage Mulliner spec R comes to market from ~2 year ownership, has a just been serviced this year.

This Arnage R comes with a comprehensively stamped service book, with less than ~4,000 miles covered in the past ~5 years. Take a look below to see all the previous service work carried out and the provenance that comes with the car.

When Richard first took the car to Balmoral, they said they thought this car was the demonstrator model for Bentley and so was fully loaded and was very close to a T spec example. A recent service in February 2024, was carried out at Bentley Balmoral independent specialists, replacing a leaking gearbox tail shaft seal, filters, oil changes and correcting some engine management lights. Servicing was carried out in June 2020, filter, seals and oils were serviced in May 2019 and filters, seals and oil changes were also completed during its service in March 2018.

Coolant temperature sensor switches were replaced in August 2017, spark plugs were changed in February 2017, rear disc brakes were replaced in August 2016, a TomTom system was fitted in July 2016 and 2 new master keys and new hydraulic gas springs were supplied in June 2016,

The full specification on this car is significant and we've detailed the overview of the options included with this Arnage in the paperwork gallery. Some of the key extra features kitted out with the car include; cocktail compartments to lower front seat backs, lower front wing vents (Le Mans series), quad exhaust tailpipes and revised rear bumper, security glass, bottle cooler to rear, drilled aluminium foot pedals, hide trimmed rear seat centre cushion box stowage and a DVD system in boot area with screens on rear front headrests. Richard has further upgraded the stereo to an Alpine DAB/CD/MP3 system, but as part of the final sale, this also comes with original stereo.

Please note that the private registration number will not be sold with the car, it will move back to an original age appropriate registration number.

I’ve bought many cars at auction and been disappointed with little dinks in various panels.
Are you aware of any dinks and significant stone chips on the body work.

Photo 108 & 104 show the only minor dent in the drivers door where someone missed with the key. It doesn’t show up in general but in certain light a very minor dent can be seen. Other than that its showroom condition. See if you can spot it yourself.
