The Bentley Continental is a byword for high-speed touring and is long associated with comfortable long-distance travel. The second generation of Continental GTs was a car that gained recognition as a true five-star vehicle as the brand evolved to fit the needs of the modern-day gentleman. Powered by a twin-turbo V8 4.0-litre engine, the use of state-of-the-art technology not only offered ~500BHPm but could also return respectable fuel consumption.

However, Bentleys are mainly bought for their refinement and ride and the Continental upholds the finest Bentley traditions, with an element of devastating power and lavish comfort. Equipped with exquisite walnut veneers, embroidered leather upholstery, handcrafted aluminium fascia inserts, and chrome-bezelled control dials, the cabin exudes an opulent and extraordinarily rich 'old English' ambience that is a rare quality even in the most premium of brands.

A satisfying cruising machine with a serious amount of pull!

As a long-distance cruiser, the Continental has to be up there with the best and Jerry has taken the car on a couple of European journeys to make the most of the car's talent. He bought the car from a friend of his just over 2 years ago, the original keeper from new, an easy decision for him.

Despite being very impressed with the finesse and comfort of the Bentley, the recent lack of use and consolidation of his collection is the main reason why the car is being placed on auction. Its glossy finish and near-perfect presentation really betrays the cars age.

Wheels and Tyres

The 21” six twin-spoke black machined wheels appear to be in excellent condition, with no major marks to report.

They are shod with a full matching set of Pirelli P-Zeros, all have plenty of life in them. Take a look through the gallery to see the details.

Bodywork

As you'd expect for a low mileage example, maintained by Bentley, the bodywork is in excellent condition. The panel and bumper fit is flush, with even panel gaps throughout. All of the doors open and close with ease, and no outstanding issues noted on the underside.

The metalwork is free from any significant damage, in some photos you may notice a very minor dent on the driver's side door - this has be repaired since our visit. We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The black paint finish has an excellent lustre, with very little in terms of the ageing process evident. There is the odd chip on the nose and on the edges of the side doors, but overall it presents exceptionally well.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

There were no discernible issues with the glass, seals or brightwork of the car. A new radiator badge has been fitted since our visit.

The hood is free of any rips or significant marks, there are a few small signs of outdoor elements noted, but that could easily be remedied by a deep valet.

Interior

Elegant design and cutting-edge engineering define the cars hand-finished cabin, real luxury.

Seats and Carpets

The diamond-quilted leather seats are in excellent order, with nothing more than the lightest of wear noted in the driver's side bolster. All of the functions appear to work without fault.

The carpets and mats are in very good shape, with no signs of dampness. As to be expected, the boot shows no evidence of heavy use.

Dashboard

The dashboard presents very well, supporting the car's low mileage. The facia is in very good condition, with just some small marks noted on the edge of the upper section of the centre console. All of the controls, dials and switches appear to be in full working order. The door cards and roof lining are in excellent condition.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multi-function steering wheel is in excellent condition. The same can be said for the automatic gear selector, again in superb condition.

Mechanics

Durability and proven mechanics go hand in hand with its satisfying driving characteristics.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine is cleanly presented, with tidy hosing and ancillaries. The car starts up straight away, with no warning lights being flagged up on the dashboard. The V8 engine idles smoothly, with no signs of undulations or unwanted noises heard. The exhaust emitted the typical condensation from the cold start but soon cleared up as the engine got to temperature.

The 8-speed automatic gearbox is effective and operates without any issues and no signs of slippage. Watch the video to see the car in action on the road.

Suspension and Brakes

It rides very smoothly, with no unwanted thuds or creaks heard throughout the short journey, just what you'd expect for a modern Continental GTC.

The car's braking is highly effective, with no evidence of fade, vibrations or uneven stopping.

The Drive

A reflection of the careful ownership profile, we were reassuringly cruised around at town speeds, a gentle blip of the accelerator did offer a clue of the potential howl of the torquey V8 engine.

The sumptuous cabin was silent during the drive, with no rattles or distractions heard, the steering remained true with no other mechanical noises heard, even over the ruts and speed humps. Jerry has not reported any issues in terms of oil pressure or engine temperature.

Electrics and Other

Jerry will provide a recently purchased Bentley car cover, as well as a wind deflector and its jacket. The roof retracts and raises smoothly with no problems with the motor operations.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from just over 2 years ownership and just 1 former keeper, the car has 6 Bentley service stamps despite only covering 24,000 miles since new, and presents beautifully.

Originally registered in March 2014 by Bentley Hadley Green in Hertfordshire, the car comes with 6 Bentley servicing stamps backed up by an impressive series of maintenance invoices reaching back since the car was new.

As a testament of the cars low number of owners, the car comes with a clean MOT record with no advisories flagged up. The car's next MOT is due in April 2024. It comes with three keys, the owner's wallet and booklets. Please note that the private registration plate will not be part of the sale.
