Just over 3,600 RHD Tii's were made, some argue that they are best of the 2002 lineup.

Coming from a serial BMW 2002 owner, this Tii has had some work carried out in preparation for sale, tidying up the interior with new carpets and new chrome bumpers. There is definitely something about these little 4 pots that we love.

This 2002 Tii comes with a massive history file, and has had lots of restorative work in the past. With all the work completed, you can tell that it is both a well used and well loved car.

Importantly, it's a round tail light model, which tend to be more desirable than the square tail light versions.

Meet the owner

Surjit loves cars and is always in the market for another driving experience.

He is also a friend and loyal client of ours at Trade Classics - a proper petrolhead - talking, researching and driving cars all the time. He has owned the car for just under a year after buying from the previous owner of ~25 years, the opportunity to have a bit of fun again in a 2002 was too hard to pass up.

He has owned many different BMW 02 series in the past and always gets the bug of owning another example after missing the one he sells. He states in the ‘Meet the Owner’ video that he actually prefers the 2002 Tii compared to the 2002 Turbo as you get a smoother drive than you would do with the cult classic.

Exterior

The shark nose, classic proportions and Fjord Blue paint make this a very beautiful car.

Wheels and Tyres

The 13" aluminium BMW classic wheels look incredible, showing no signs of corrosion or scratches etc.

The classic design really set the car off. The tyres on the car have plenty of tread, as indicated in the clean MOT the car received.

Bodywork

Lots of restorative work over the years on this car like new front wings etc. The result is a car that's free from the kind of rust you tend to see in a car of this era.

With the colour, brightwork and stance, the car does attract all the right type of attention, there are still bits of adjustment and fettling that a new owner could tackle to make it the kind of car you'd take to competitions etc.

Paint

Set in a beautiful BMW Fjord Blue, the car shone brightly during our visit and was a delight to photograph.

The car received a bare metal respray in the past, and other areas have been painted over time too. When we photographed the car, the paint looks great in terms of finish and colour across the panels.

Glass and Trim

Surjit has fitted new bumpers to the this car which helps to put a lovely finish to the car. Other bits like trim look ok, and as he mentions in his video, the chrome stripping on the window seals could be replaced (he has a set which could be purchased at an additional cost post sale).

The glass looks great and fits in the frame tight and securely.

Interior

The simplicity of the interior allows you to focus on the most important thing, driving!

Seats and Carpets

The blue cloth/vinyl seats look stunning when paired with the paint of the car - a particular favourite feature under Surjit's ownership. Surjit renewed the interior carpets to smarten the car up.

During 2016, the whole interior was stripped down again, cleaned, and eventually refitted professionally. This refurbishment rather than a swap out restoration, leaves the interior with a bit of patina and charm.

Dashboard

The dashboard looks really clean and crisp, showing no signs of fogging in our photos and videos. The clock situated above the gear stick still works along with all dials on the dash.

The material by the windscreen looks flat and even, showing no signs of lifting or degradation.

Steering Wheel / Gearstick

Surjit had a 2002 Turbo 3-spoke steering wheel fitted in the car that maintains a very good condition. He mentions that the original wheel will also come with the sale of the car.

The gear stick looks great with no issues.

Mechanics

A resoundingly satisfying driving experience that just keeps on giving.

Engine and Gearbox

Along with restorative work on the bodywork over the years, the car has been extensively maintained and restored from a mechanical perspective. We think this car would make a great run around/daily driver.

During each restoration, the gearbox has been overhauled at each opportunity to maintain the condition inline with the rest of the car. A new clutch was installed as late as 2009.

Suspension and Brakes

The 2002 Tii chassis coupled with the fuel injected engine makes for a great combination and exhilarating drives.

In each restoration, the brakes have been overhauled with many new parts. The most recent work on the brakes took place in 2016.

The Drive

We took the car on a little run from Leamington to our office, it's a spritely little thing, and the short drive helped us to understand why these appeal so much to Surjit.

The handling capabilities are much inline with the power, proving to be a great little car for a daily town driving etc.

Electrics and Other

Surjit assures us all electrics in the car function as expected.

As you can see in the paperwork section, in October 2016, a new alternator was fitted to the car. The car comes with what looks to be the original radio, or at least a classic one, it looks great in the cabin.

History and Paperwork

A wealth of paperwork from the comes with the car, charting its history.

As you can see in the paperwork section, this car has been well used, and subsequently maintained by the previous owners. You get the sense that they've always wanted to ensure the little 2002 was kept running and on the road.

With the use of the car, we believe the clock has worked its way around once, and now shows over 20,000 miles.

We have actioned the following checks:
- Photo ID of seller.
- V5 checked against seller's photo ID.
- HPi Clear.
